Gluten free raw coconut fig cakes are easy to make and these vegan fig and cashew fuel cakes are great for pre workout snacking or mid run/ride fuel!
Last year (okay 3 days ago), I spent a lot of time in the kitchen. I was on a wee “sabbatical” break from Healthy Bites and it was for good reason. The kiwi was putting in some LONG base training hours and needed lots of good fuel. Yes, he uses Healthy Bites himself but I needed more substance. Why? The bike hours. I think one week he had 18 hours of just riding, on top of 17 more hours of swimming and running. Wowza, that’s a lot. Nothing intense, just long.
Needless to say, this Sherpa wife got to work ASAP. I remembered 2 recipes that I had made back in the day (my younger Sherpa years) and decided to revisit them. So glad I did because I forgot how good they were –> Strange BUT Good. You’ll see why they are a tad bit strange in a minute.
So Happy Fueling Friday! Here goes…

And if you need more than just snacks as fuel, try out this gluten free bread company. WE LOVE them!
The Sourdough bread I made from Luce’s GF mix. So easy and fun! They send you everything to make it too! Great with running eggs and fruit.
Wow, I’m tired and hungry just from typing that. If you make any of these, feel free to report back. What did you use them for, fueling wise? A long run, hike, a bike ride, skiing, swimming, post yoga, a quick breakfast, kid friendly snacks?
What’s your go to snack for FUEL?
