Welcome to Life Behind the Scenes. A glimpse of what really goes on and how we can support each. By the way, how’s your soul?
Can we just pause time for a moment here? I mean, really. If we could, I would tell you to grab a cup of coffee (or tea) and let’s talk life. What’s going on in your life? How’s your summer? What are you enjoying these days? Where have you traveled? Best thing you’ve eatin? How’s your soul?
Okay that last question is a little deep, but I truly meant it.
Soul talk meets coffee talk meets behind the scenes here at Cotter Crunch.
You ready? I’m about to get REAL up in here.
Behind the Scenes – Soul Talk Question number 1!
What Prayers have been answered in your life lately?
Come one, there has to be at least one! Look within.
Our Number ONE prayer that has been answered is that my husband has accepted a new job position! OMG the relief! The EXCITEMENT! Many of you know (or at least I think you know) that my husband was let go 5 months ago. In fact, the whole company he worked for was bought out and let go. So it’s been a good 5 months of searching and interviewing and trying to find balance in our life on one income. But GOD IS GOOD! He delivered and we are so excited for him to start a new career in just a few weeks. I also think God is pretty clever. He held out on James getting a job until we got our new vizsla puppers trained. Oh ya, did I tell you we got a puppy? Because life wasn’t crazy enough. More on that below.
Behind the Scenes- Soul Talk Question number 2!
What’s one thing that has recently changed your life for the better?
Whether it be a situation, a person, or a ..puppy?!
As mentioned above. We got a puppy. A vizsla. A needy, smart, cute, and active thing combined in tiny animal form. But don’t worry, she will be at least 40 lbs by age 2! WHOA!
I mean, we have all the time in the world to be puppy parents, right? Haha! Wrong. But here’s the thing. I’ve been visiting this puppy (who we now call Oakley) for the past 2 months. I kinda new we needed her. I kinda knew I wanted her. Not just for the sake of having the cutest face on earth stare up at me, but because I mentally wanted her. I had this feeling, that maybe, just maybe, getting puppy would help my anxiety and shift my focus on taking care of her.
The verdict?
Yep and Yep. For some reason, having a crazy puppy in the house has helped me ease up a bit. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still chaotic, and tiring, and frustrating at time. But it’s also brought my husband and I closer together. Man, I love that guy! He’s been a true gem taking care of Oakley while she learns the ropes of house hold. And all the while I continue to work from home. OYE!
You know what else this puppy has changed for me, besides my mental health? She’s changed our fitness program and made more me active. In fact, I’ve been more active over the past 3 weeks than I have this whole year. More walks, more trails, more magnificent views of Utah. Views I never would have seen without her pulling us out the front door at 6am.
Behind the Scenes- Soul Talk Question number 3!
What right now, at this very moment, challenges you to new heights? It can be as simple at eating more superfoods (I know, easier said than done) or more complicated, like say…. taking your business or passion to the next level. MOVING FORWARD!
For me, it’s both. I’ve been trying to add more seasonal superfoods to my diet. Like herbs, tomatoes, zucchini, dark chocolate (kidding, kinda), and all Farmer’s Markets finds! Seasonal produce makes me feel more alive. Thank you God for giving us this earth. Corny much? Haha, but truth!
Also, did I tell you I took on a new project? Um, ya. Brooke Lark and I are hosting not one, but three workshops over the next year! OMG! It’s call the foodie bootcamp and we are so so excited to put this on for fellow entrepreneurs.
What is this bootcamp all about? Oh glad you asked!

Behind the Scenes –Soul Talk Question number 4!
What book or TED Talk or devotional or speech, etc. has awakened your soul lately? Ironically, mine has been a devotional, this one, and the book SOUL REST on audio tape. The sub title alone is what caught my attention.
Soul Rest: Reclaim Your Life. Return to Sabbath
“In the midst of a cacophony of noise, finding true rest is nearly impossible. With so many responsibilities and distractions vying for our attention, too many of us have built unhealthy cycles of rest. As a result, we burn ourselves out, striving and straining against God’s intent for our lives. We can only sustain a life of purpose if we learn to truly rest.”
YES!
I will admit I have not followed the patterns of SOUL REST yet. It’s about practicing the sabbath and resting from work. More mentally then anything. Gosh, I yearn for this. I am working on this. But the busybody in me is fighting it. His words ring true to my…. SOUL. I know that real rest and trust is God’s provision is needed for me (us) on a regular basis. I’ll get there. I’m determined!
Lastly, I’ll be heading out of the country next week for a press trip. Ya, I know. Not resting. But it’s a trip of a lifetime! Any guesses where to? If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll be sure to see all the sights and adventures. Remind me to really rest when I come back, ok? I’m holding YOU ALL accountable.
So really… how’s your soul?

If you are traveling with a pet, there is nothing better
Hooray for you and the kiwi. Also I’m in love with your puppy and I want to come to your food event mostly to see you because I’m not all that serious about blogging. I’m afraid to make it a job because then I likely won’t love it anymore, so for now, it’s for kicks, shits and giggles. And wine, if a company wanted to send me some of course. 🙂 Love you.
Out of the country for a press trip?! You’re so fancy! My soul has been chaotic, overwhelmed, and anxious, honestly. But I’ve started implementing some steps this week to give it room to breathe and calm down. Back to early morning walks and podcasts, quiet times, fixed bed times for the kids, and a better sleep schedule for me. Baby steps! Love you!!!
Ahhh so much congrats on the puppy, job and bootcamp! Many blessings to be thankful for!
OMG Lindsay: this is one of the best blogs EVER. One can always find recipes (and yours are fantastic), but soul searching is a way to “stop and smell the roses”. A dear friend of mine gave me “Jesus Calling” by Sara Young that I read every day which is definitely soul searching. Thank you so much and hope you enjoy every day.
Thank you Phyllis! Truly appreciate your kind words and ongoing support! Don’t ever hesitate to reach out if you need ANYTHING. <3
And p.s I LOVE jesus calling book!
Love you Lindsay….and your hubby and precious pup are adorbs!! Glad things are working out!! I am always checking out your recipes to incorporate into my life…keep up the great work!
Thank yo so much Carol! I always love hearing from you. Truly!
MAJOR congratulations to your husband on the job; on the adventures with the adorable pup (dogs are a ton of work, for sure, but soooo worth it); and keep on feeding your soul! You’re doing so well, Lindsay – keep it up. You know you always have my 100000% support. I put up an IG post yesterday, checking in with my soul – I’m doing amazingly well (if I may humbly say so) and I love being able to share that.
Thank you so much friend! I appreciate your ongoing support! <3 So glad your soul is feeling HEALTHY <3
Hey Lindsay! First of all, you are great…just in case no one told you today! So I follow you on Instagram and your content speaks to my heart and to my food passion. I saw your post for the upcoming boot camp in October. My husband and I were planning to come to Utah this fall for the first time (anniversary celebration!!). I have an Instagram page, have taken a class or two regarding food styling and have contemplated starting a blog…then life always happens! When I saw your post for the boot camp I knew it was meant for me. I don’t believe in coincidence (God’s way of remaining anonymous!!) I have a career but want to get to a place where my passion=my purpose. I want to step out on faith and pursue this food passion to see where it takes me. I understand that your soul needs to be healthy in order to be happy. I would love to attend the boot camp to explore the possibilities of how I can effect this change for myself and for a larger audience. I want to find that voice and I am ready for the hard work! So please let me know how I can meet you in Utah!
Best Donna
