Simple Healthy gut Green Smoothies and Orange Smoothies with cinnamon and ginger! These simple orange and green smoothies are both vegan friendly, gluten free, and packed with nourishing ingredients.

Simple Healthy gut Green Smoothie - vegan, gluten free, and packed with nourishing ingredients. this for later

Healthy Green smoothies are the go to for a nutrient dense snack/meal these days. Seems like everyone is hooked, which is a good thing, a healthy thing! We even love adding protein to our beloved green smoothies for a post workout PUMP!

But as much as I love these nourishing smoothies, I also had to be careful when and I used them during the beginning stages of gut healing. You see, the oxalate content in spinach and kale can make your digestive issues worse if you drink them daily. Instead of giving them up all together, I just started rotating my veggie packed smoothies more and steaming the veggies before adding them to my blender. Now you know why I steam my spinach in this good Healthy gut smoothie recipe.

My usual rotation was the good gut smoothie, a cucumber and aloe smoothie, a key lime pie avocado smoothie, and a carrot juice smoothie. Aloe Vera is to help with leaky gut and carrots help with gastritis (to reduce the inflammation).

Phew, I know, so much to think about. All this was trial and error of course because every body responds differently to gut healing. Luckily, for me, the carrot juice was well tolerated and soothing.

The carrot has been called the poor man’s ginseng as it contains more than 490 phytochemicals.

Carrots, especially carrot juice, are a sure-fire ticket to better stomach and gastrointestinal health. Carrots improve a variety of digestive problems such as:

  • Upset stomach.
  • Peptic ulcers.
  • Gastritis.
  • Crohn’s disease. (chronic inflammatory disease affecting the whole of the alimentary tract)
  • Diarrhea. Celiac disease
  • Chewing of carrots increases saliva and quickens digestion by supplying the necessary enzymes, minerals and vitamins. Regular use of carrot prevents the formation of gastric ulcer and other digestive disorders. Carrot juice is an effective food remedy in ailments like intestinal colic, colitis, appendicitis, peptic ulcer and dyspepsia.

So there you have it. A few reasons why I will always rotate smoothie blends and why I love a good ORANGE DREAM MACHINE.

Is Orange better than Green? I’d say they are tied, just depends on the how you use them and why!

Carrot juice, yay or nay? Green smoothies, yay or nay?

Bookmarking this one. I have al sorts of gut issues so these juices sound great. I noticed when I juiced a lot, my reflux became much worst. Sometimes too much of a good stuff is not so good after all ….

Perfect timing! I’ve been getting serious about fixing some health issues (I suspect candida, and I know IBS and some intolerances are already a big problem), and have been working on avoiding eating anything with too much oxalate content. I’ll have to give this tall glass of orange goodness a go! 🙂

I absolutely loooove including carrot in my juice! But that totally explains why lately I get some discomfort if I include too much kale in my smoothies. Ah, you’re quite the scientist, which I love. 😉 Thanks for sharing because sometimes I have my “theories” about why food makes me feel this way/that way (sometimes not too comfortable), but science always seems to back things up.

Confession: I’m slightly biased towards the orange foods, which might explain my lovely “glow” 😉 Carrots have always been on my veggie love list, though, even in my younger years when I used to shun most veggies. My dad used to make me a cup of fresh carrot juice every Sunday morning when I was growing up, and I seriously miss it!

I haven’t had a good carrot juice in a long time – and I always found it pretty “bitter” for lack of a better word. But if I have apple or something a little sweeter to add to it, I’m sure that’d taste good!

And I am all about green smoothies 🙂 But maybe that’s just my comfort zone!

I’m a big fan of carrot juice! I also REALLY hate kale in juice or smoothies, I think it overpowers everything and tastes bitter and NASTY. I just eat kale. LOTS. 🙂

I also started steaming greens for my salads when my gut was really bad and now, weirdly, I love hot salads. My mom thinks it is so weird to heat up a lettuce-heavy salad, and most people don’t like wilty lettuce, but I guess I just got used to it and now I love it.

Ah is this post ever timely! I definitely overdid the spinach, and now rotate it not only in smoothies but also in salads (I used to go through a clamshell of spinach every 2 days or so … you can see why it started causing problems for me!).
You know what’s interesting, though? I have never really been a carrot fan, but in the past few months I have been craving them and enjoying them a lot! Carrots in juices, smoothies, raw with almond butter, even baked as fries. I wonder if my body was liking all the gut-healing benefits and telling me to eat more and more? Now don’t worry – I am being careful not to overdo it on the carrots :). Moderation is my friend!

Ooh girl I am all too familiar with oxalates! I was told I had leaky gut back in November, and went totally off spinach for 6 months to heal it. In the process I learned about the importance of rotating greens (I posted a handy dandy chart a while ago here: http://eat-spin-run-repeat.com/2013/10/21/how-to-rotate-greens/) and have been feeling much better. Having said that, I had read about the healing power of aloe but never tried it. I’ve heard it’s really bitter – do you find you need to mask the taste a lot with other ingredients? I’m definitely giving your orange smoothie a try!

You may be shocked by this, but I have never had either a green or orange smoothie….or carrot juice. I am willing to try though, and now I have 2 recipes to do so. With the way my stomach is acting up….now may be time 🙂

By the way, I nominated you for a Liebster http://www.tinamuir.com/2014/05/double-liebster-award.html

I love this! You’ve inspired me to lug out my juicer more often. Who knew carrot juice was so beneficial?!

I love carrot juice but never realised it was referred to as poor mans ginseng- I remember my dads side of the family (Malaysian/Chinese) worshipping ginseng!

YES. Steaming veggies for everything is magic for the gut!

your dad must be UBER healthy. Did he turn orange from eating carrots? or did he just eat ginseng? Easy way for me to get a tan, right?

First, nice new digs. Love the header and color scheme. Second, I didn’t know the carrot was referred to as the poor man’s ginseng. Learn something new every time! I need to get on my nutrition. SPent the weekend cooking for the kids and I have nothing!
