A cranberry and pineapple elixir with turmeric is the perfect refreshing drink, and it tastes delicious! This gut-healthy elixir recipe uses fresh cranberries, pineapple, and a superfood called coffee fruit.

Here we go! Second week of 2015. How’s it been treating you? Are you one to start the detoxing and cleansing?

I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t believe in detoxing. But that’s just my personal preference. To each their own. I think the liver is the only one that needs to focus on detoxing for us, but sometimes we just need to give it a little TLC or support. I know my liver and digestion definitely need some extra support after a few month’s of crazy eats and frequent stress. I also think it’s great to support the liver when you are doing heavy training or racing. Which is why I have the Kiwi supporting his liver too, ya know?

Okay, so instead of focusing on detoxing and cleansing by eliminating foods, let’s maybe shift focus on adding in nutrients that support the liver in doing its job.

  • Nutrients like bromelain (a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapple) that helps support digestion by breaking protein.
  • Nutrients like Turmeric (a powerful anti-inflammatory spice) that can help reduce inflammation in the gut and whole body. You can see my whole post about turmeric HERE along with another recipe.
  • Nutrients like those found in Cranberries (including digestion-aiding enzymes). In fact, a new study has been linked cranberries to helping prevent attachment of bacteria to the stomach lining,  You all know i love a good soothing cranberry smoothie.

And thanks to antioxidant rich Bai Drinks, I can now add in coffee fruit to that list of nutrient packed ingredients. Coffee fruit is the fruit in which the coffee bean is grown. Remember, I used it in my SUPER FRUITCAKE smoothie. Yep, that delicious one! Coffee fruit is a amazing SUPER FRUIT rich in antioxidants and helps fight free radicals. Free radicals cause cell damage. Free radicals are caused by… well… STRESS.

Which leads me to this recipe. A new gut healthy elixir recipe.

Description

Cranberry Pineapple Elixir with Turmeric. Simmering will extract the beneficial compounds from the turmeric

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 cups purified water
  • Lemon or lime juice
  • 6-8 oz fresh pineapple juice
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cranberry juice
  • Optional sparkling water (lemon)
  • Optional - honey, stevia, etc.
  • Fresh lemon slice and cranberries to garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. There are two ways you can make this. You can just add in the the turmeric, or you can boil it first it first like i did with Turmeric Lemonade! I highly recommended boiling a teaspoon of your turmeric in 2 cups hot water first, then strain the turmeric and add in lemon juice. Let it cool.
  2. Pour into cup and mix in your pineapple juice and cranberry juices and sparkling water to make it more fizzy, if desired.
  3. Optional – Sweeten with stevia or even ginger if you’d like.
  4. Option 2: You can use 4oz pineapple juice and then 4 oz sparkling water to make it bubbly.

I know this is old, but I just found this, do you use the Bai drink instead of the pineapple juice?? And do you use fresh cranberries and boil them or just regular cranberry juice?

A few questions about this recipe.
    1. Are you using the turmeric water or just the turmeric after you boil it?
    2. I see you have cranberries in your pic and you don’t call it out. Do you get the frozen and put it in with the turmeric when you boil?
    3. How much lemon juice? Just a squeeze?

I am not a huge fan of a strict detox plan either – but am cool with a little liver helping in the form of this elixir of yours! Such a brilliant use of turmeric! I use turmeric (in powder and root form) in a lot of curries and soups and stews – NEVER EVER in a sweet drink! BRILLIANT my friend!

I also love what you said about adding in nutrients to support liver detox. My boyfriend asked if we could do a detox together, so I created recipes for us both to enjoy that are filled with detoxing nutrients like tumeric, ginger, cranberry, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper, and detoxifying foods like cruciferous veggies, berries, apples, bell peppers and sweet pototatoes. Our only “restriction” is no coffee or alcohol! It feels SO much better than making a long list of things we can’t have.

I am on a veggie diet, too much heavy carbs in the past few weeks and it definitely did not help the extreme exhaustion!

I don’t ever detox, but I love adding in extra nutrients to the smoothie I start my day with. I found out about the wonderful qualities of turmeric last year and it helped me so much when I was battling bronchitis.

All of the flavors look amazing! The ones I would most like to try are the pomegranate and coconut (although blueberry and mango are high up on the list as well).

Thanks for the chance to win!

YUM! I don’t detox as I seem to only sabotage myself during them, but instead rely on body to clean itself out – just means I can’t put junk in. 😉 Sometimes that’s the hard part. 😉 These juices seem really amazing, and I love their IG page! I would love to try the grapefruit or lemon one; thanks for the giveaway!

It looks so pretty! I had no idea coffee fruit exists. So much to learn here!
I don’t know if the giveaway is worldwide, anyway, I would totally wanna try pineapple.
Ginger, lemon and ground flaxseed are my current staple!

ya, onions, pears, and apples are the worst for me. I avoid. Brussel sprouts in small amounts. Pineapple and banana or plantain are good!
