You could probably use a little reboot and extra adrenal support after a crazy busy holiday season. This Adrenal Support Mocktail is the perfect drink to add to your daily routine as a way to support your adrenal glands. Plus it’s delicious and easy to make!
This recipe is adapted from the Adrenals Half Full (Adrenal Support) Signature Mocktail by our good friend Anne Marie of Grass Fed Salsa. She is a Nutritional Health Coach who teaches you how to make detoxing your body, home, and diet simple and successful.
Adrenal Support
Adrenals are hormone producing glands that sit atop our kidneys and are responsible for assisting our bodies in dealing with everyday stressors. However, in this miracle of a modern world we all live in, the “everyday stressors” might more aptly be called “every minute stressors.”
Our adrenal glands, in response to stress, create hormones like epinephrine (aka cortisol) and norepinephrine. When these stress hormones are over-produced over a long period of time they can have extremely negative effects on our bodies.
Weight gain, muscle loss, dysglycemia, anxiety, fatigue, caffeine intolerance, sleep issues, and many more maladies can result from our adrenals over-producing cortisol. If they are taxed for too long, nutrient and antioxidant stores run low, and we can run into a situation where we simply do not have the ability to create any more of these vital hormones, leaving us in a state of adrenal fatigue.
This is a go-to recipe for when you are stressed and in need of an adrenal reboot. Kinda perfect for the new year after a crazy holiday season.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Our mocktail is made with holy basil (tulsi leaf) tea, sparkling mineral water, Himalayan sea salt, fresh organic oranges, fresh basil, and a touch of grade B maple syrup for those who like it a tad on the sweet side.
- Holy basil – An adaptogenic herb that supports the adrenal glands. Adaptogens help the adrenals, you guessed it, “adapt” the way they react to stressors by supporting a more balanced hormonal response.
- Sparkling mineral water – Helps hydrate the body, and also contains essential minerals.
- Himalayan sea salt – Contains trace minerals, which are important when it comes to supporting the adrenals. Those suffering with adrenal fatigue often find their body has a hard time regulating sodium due to the reduction of the hormone aldosterone.
- Orange – A great source of Vitamin C & bioflavonoids. These all-star micronutrients assist the body in hormone production, and protecting it against free radical damage by virtue of their antioxidant ability.
- Grade B maple syrup – An alkaline-forming sweetener that is not only delicious, but also contains essential minerals and B-vitamins that are necessary for energy production and adrenal hormone production.

Do you know if this can be made with dōTERRA Holy Basil EO rather than a tea bag? If so, how many drops of the EO?
Also, since salt dissolves better in warm/hot water, wouldn’t it be better to stir the salt in before it cools? Or is there a benefit to adding it to the cooled/cold water?
I haven’t tried it with essential oils. It’s worth a shot! Let me know if you do!
This drink makes me feel so alert and hydrated. I get a lot of brain fog and this gets rid of the brain fog. I like drinking this when I get out of the sauna as it helps my electrolytes and body recalibrate after loosing so much liquid.
Would it be ok to make a large batch to last a few days or a week at a time?
Sure! I think that should be fine. Not sure how it would taste at the end of the week, but keep me posted!
I love learning about how food affects our hormones! This sounds so refreshing and delicious, especially with the combination of sea salt and maple syrup!
I knew you would appreciate!
Love learning about this stuff! And this mocktail sounds amazing!
i have tulsi tea. would drinking just that help ?
It would definitely help. But the combination of the basil, the TE, the vitamin C from the orange, and the sea salt really make the drink wonderful for the adrenals. It basically replenishes all the minerals that are depleted when you are stressed. If that makes sense?
This looks so refreshing plus it has some great benefits!
Mm this looks so refreshing! Hormones are amazing things, aren’t they? They’re so complicated! Haha.
I love reading about how food affects our homeostasis, I love that this drink is full of goodness!
Me too! It’s good to be educated, right?
Oh how I need this! Looks like an absolutely delicious way to deal with my nearly constant overstressed state.
Thank YOU for sharing, Lindsay! It really is cool how we connected so long ago through Healthy Bites and started this little virtual friendship. 🙂
I need this tea in my life! P.S. I have those straws and love them. They keep everything so cold.
How fun! Did you get them from Norwex? Geez, they’re my FAVS. I can’t tolerate plastic ones anymore! I always have one in my purse.
And now I’ve read about this Tulsi Tea twice in two days. Surely it’s a sign.
oh where was the other tea mentioned? I’m curious!
Same here! But now I can’t remember the first place…
