5 Reasons to Hike More Plus an #Eatclean Giveaway with LÄRABAR!
This is a sponsored post on behalf of LÄRABAR, all statements and opinions made are ALWAYS my own!
Did you know there’s actually a National Take a Hike Day? Yep, on November 17th, which is three weeks from today. It’s true! And you know I’m all about this day! Hiking is my go to activity for many reasons. Let’s take a look at the reasons why, shall we?
- It’s good for the mind. It’s clears your head without having to really tax the body. You can listen to the sounds of nature, which gives you a sense of calmness (Which I ALWAYS NEED).
- Getting outside gets you your daily dose of Vitamin D, which we all need more of in the Fall and winter months. Vitamin D is an essential nutrient needed to keep your muscles and bones strong. Although you can get sources of vitamin D from enriched foods, the best source is the sunshine itself! I always crave it in the morning, And that morning sun actually helps naturally set your bodies circadian rhythm.
- Increases Bone Density – FACT: The CDC says 150 minutes of hiking per week keeps your joints flexible and helps stave off the joint stiffness associated with osteoarthritis.
- It’s good for the heart and gives you energy – Aerobic Activity, such as hiking, helps elevate your high-density lipoprotein levels and lower your triglyceride levels. This, in return, can lower your risk of heart disease. Plus when you move your briskly, while hiking, you send oxygen to your muscles and organs. This is literally like a breath of fresh air to your body and gives it a boost of energy and strength for those lungs. Gosh I love that!
- It allows me to DISCONNECT and RECONNECT with friends/family or myself. I can’t say this enough, but hiking with my husband allows us to GET AWAY from life for a bit and just catch up. No distractions.
So you see, there is so much goodness that comes from getting outside and taking a hike. In fact, that’s how Lara from LÄRABAR created her REAL FOOD products back in 2000. It was on a hike. (That’s where I do my best thinking too.). She had this revelation… that people needed to simplify their life and their diet. Her passion for natural foods, fun and an active lifestyle inspired the LÄRABAR brand today!
LÄRABAR wants to get more people eating clean and getting outside, now that’s my kind of passion!
LÄRABAR was kind enough to send me a whole bag of their wholesome goodies to try out, including the new grain free RENOLA. There’s not a bar or a flavor we don’t like.
This brand has fueled us through many hikes, travel, long rides, and more. Powered by real food feels good!
LÄRABAR would like share in the celebration National Take a Hike day by offering one reader a whole lotta LÄRABAR GOODIES so you can eat clean and get outside.
- 16 assorted LÄRABARs
- 12 SUS packs of LÄRABAR RENOLA, a new grain-free granola (Cinnamon Nut, Cocoa Coconut and Berry)
Sound good? Trust me, it is
To win:
- Head over to the LÄRABAR product page and leave a comment of what flavors you would like to try of both LÄRABAR and the RENOLA
- Leave a comment letting me know how you spend time outside
- Tweet about it [Tweet “#Getoutside on National Take a Hike Day with @larabar! Giveaway via @LCCotter! #Eatclean “] and be sure to tell me you did in the comments!

I still haven’t found Snickerdoodle or Gingerbread bars anywhere but I would love to try those!
I’ve tried every Larabar flavor in existence (minus the coconut ones- gross!) because I literally LIVE off of the babies! I haven’t had the Chocolate Chip Brownie and Cherry Pie in forever though. I need a refresher!
Also love the Renolas. Super filling and addicting!
The way I spend time outside is walking from class to class in college, nut I truly love to go camping and play tennis. Once summer comes back, I’ll be able to do that again WOOT!
Also my favorite way to spend time outside is running, but also I’ve enjoyed walking around my neighborhood lately and enjoying everyone’s Halloween decorations.
I would love to try the blueberry larabar and the cinnamon nut renola. I’ve never seen either of those in the stores here.
Annnnd I tweeted 🙂 https://twitter.com/MOutlawrun/status/528663607458816000
My favorite way to get outside this summer and fall has been riding my bike with my husband! I love that it’s something that we can do together.
Yum! Pumpkin pie Larabar for sure, and I think the cinnamon nut Renola.
You two are the cutest! I clicked away!
I’d love to try the coconut chocolate chip Larabar and cinnamon nut Renola!

I love the cashew cookie larabar. I really want to try the Gingerbread and pumpkin pie bars but haven’t found them yet!
Over the past 2 years I’ve started taking long walks around my apartment complex. It’s not exactly the setting I’d like, but it definitely helps me relax and gets my blood flowing.
Yum! Love LÄRABAR!
There isn’t a Larabar flavor I don’t like. I’ve never tried the Gingerbread and would love to.

Gingerbread!!!! I haven’t seen these in my store yet…delish! I would also like to try the cinnamon nut renola….again, delish! I LOVE being outside. Hiking is my first love. Living in NC gives me lots of opportunity to do that and I’m grateful. Running and having fall fire pits are two others that I enjoy!
I love spending time outside hiking, especially since I live in Denver and am close to the mountains.
Cocoa coconut renola bar sounds delicious, as does the banana bread original.
And yes, I tweeted… and Pinned!
Love to hike and now that we live so close to the beach, love to do what I call ‘scrambling’ over the rocks along the bottom of the cliffs at the beach… gotta watch the tide though!
Cashew Cookie LARAbars are my fave and I would love to try the Cocoa Coconut Renola bar. MMMMM. Cute pics!

There isn’t much hiking in my neck of the woods (beach)… but a walk along the water soothes my soul oh so good 🙂

I would love to try the cocoa coconut Renola
GR TO LARABAR! I wish I could eat them, I hear such great things. Alas, I shall take a bite of spinach, close my eyes and pretend I am sinking my teeth into that chocolate chip cookie dough magic.
uh oh, which can you not eat? the nuts?
I can’t eat any – cause I cannot eat fruits or nuts or dairy or sugar!LOL! I swear I need to create a protein/snack bar I can actually EAT! LOL!
Ahh I have been wanting to try the Snickerdoodle but haven’t found it anywhere yet! My two favorite ways to be active is running and walking my pup!
Hiking is definitely my all time favoite way to spend time outside. We are planning a family vacation to Colorado next summer and I am already counting down until our first hike!
Running is my favorite way to enjoy being outside if I’m being active. If I’m just relaxing, then it’s sitting out on the patio with a book in hand,.
I tweeted http://twitter.com/WTBFitness/status/527208230167265281
You kind of can’t go wrong with any flavor right? I haven’t tried the Renola yet but the berry sounds right up my alley. So far my fave larabar flavor has to be the peanut butter cookie!
I love the Carrot Cake flavor! I haven’t tried the Snickerdoodle or Cappuccino yet, but I have a feeling they would become favorites too.
Love the Cashew Cookie Larabar! i take them along when I go hiking! Hiking and canoeing are my fav outdoor activities!
I’d love to try the snickerdoodle or pecan pie larabars or the cocoa coconut renola! Love getting outside with my favorite girl – my puppy!

I do love to hike, but the weather in Scotland now is wet and windy and the snow will be here soon, so not the best conditions! But being outside is so important – I just love to walk around my city and take in all the amazing architecture – Glasgow is beautiful. Or I walk around one of our local parks, nothing better than wrapping up warm with David and taking a stroll amongst the autumn leaves!
I would love to try Lara bars as we can’t get them in the UK – Cocoa coconut renola sounds divine as does the Coconut cream pie one – wow!
I tweeted! I love Larabars– can’t wait to try the Renola!
I tweeted: https://twitter.com/dandidaffyhill/status/526943956559339520

I actually took today off work and went on an hours long hike with the Hubby. He’s home for a week, so I’m soaking up as much of him as possible. Speaking of which…. 😉
I love biking and taking my dog for walks with my kids!
I grew up in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains so I’m accustomed to hiking. Also a big Larabar fan. Last year, I searched in vain for the seasonal flavors, to no avail. I still want to try the pumpkin pie, gingerbread, and snicker doodle varieties. Wish they would bring back cocoa mole and pistachio. Those were my favs!
I tweeted 🙂

Dying to try Gingerbread and Cocoa Coconut Renola!
i really want to try the seasonal gingerbread!

I love to walk the pup!
I love larabars. I always bring cases back with me to Malaysia. I love the cherry chocolate chip and the carrot cake!
I miss hiking- there is a bit to do here, but it’s just not a very Malaysian thing to do, so the trails are limited, and not well maintained. Plus, driving through traffic to get there doesn’t make it such a relaxing experience! I miss the PNW so much!

A lot of our time spent outside can be attributed to hopping between bars when we visit the city haha. But we do go for hikes quite a bit.. there are SO many amazing places to see!

i love larabar! Their more “seasonal” flavors calling my name: pumpkin pie and gingerbread and would love to try the cocoa coconut renola!
I used to have a rule that I hike at least once a week when i was in grad school. Then I got a job, and moved and….I don’t anymore. Every time i see on of your pictures, I make a pact to reinstate the rule. I will actually do it. Someday….

I love hiking…but I need to show this to my husband. He’s not a fan. But my kids love it. And one thing I’ve learned about hiking with kids is that you need a lot of snacks just in case. My daughter (13) also loves larabars.

We moved to Fort Collins, CO about a year and a half ago. Since then, we try to take full advantage of every weekend by getting out for a long hike, a long trail run or snowshoeing. The options are endless here and we’re so lucky to live in this beautiful state!
I would love to try the new seasonal flavors like Gingerbread! Larabars are one of my favorite ways to fuel up for long runs and during hikes.
Hiking is my absolute favorite family activity. We have a beautiful, large state park nearby that is our favorite easy to get to spot, and the AT isn’t too far off either.

Outsideness AND direct sunshine are crucial to my wellbeing. Hiking, biking, walking, running, snowshoeing… you name it if I get to be outside I am game (:
I love hiking with my dogs and my hubby! We have discovered so many new places in the past couple years. It is my absolute favorite thing to do. Come winter, we switch to snowshoeing!

I like taking walks with my pup and my little girl! They both enjoy getting out in the fresh air
Oh I wish we had better places to hike around here (darn Nebraska), but there are some good places I haven’t explored yet. All 5 of your reasons make me want to get outside and MOVE today! 🙂

I had no idea that Larabar’s were “conceived” on a hike – thanks Lindsay for that background info! Larabars are some of my fav goto premade bars – I haven’t tried their new flavors yet, so looking forward to getting my hands on that cocoa coconut one! Happy Monday!
If there were a way for me to hike things other than stairs in the city, I would be alllll over it.
I love Larabars–a lot a lot a lot! I also love hiking, but don’t do it nearly enough. There aren’t any good trails nearby…I’d have to do some research to find how nearby the legit trails are for me.

Spending time outside is the best way to disconnect! On warm days I love to just soak in the sun and breath in the fresh air!
Snickerdoole Larabar and Cocoa Renola!
Hiking is the new running (for me!). I plan to go every weekend now that our schedule has opened up. I go once a month with a good friend. It’s a great way to connect. We didn’t even mind getting LOST. LOL. Oh, you know 7 miles later and so directions from the local scouts …it was all good.
My outdoor activity would have to be hiking or walking! Hiking is SO therapeutic for me! The most life changing experience was after grad school, instead of stressing over finding a job, I went to California with my little brother and hiked the John Muir Trail for 3 weeks. I seriously came back to the East coast a changed person…for the better and am so grateful for that experience and nature!
i love hiking and road cycling to unwind and escape. I’ve wanted to get into mountain biking so hopefully that will be something to add to my list! The cinnamon nut and seasonal flavor sound delish!
I’m lovin’ the Larabar bag of goodies! Outside as often as possible.
Aside from hiking outside, I’m all for leisure walks with my husband along the beach in the morning or @ night.
Tweeted the giveaway 🙂
Hiking has always been my outlet to disconnect from the world & just enjoy the beauty of my surroundings.
