Gluten free and dairy free bread recipes can be made at home, easily! Looking for an allergy friendly bread recipe that actually tastes good? Here’s a delicious round up of 6 healthy gluten free and dairy free bread recipes, plus a recipe for gluten free bagels, and pancakes, too!Â
Hey Friday, you looking good! Ain’t that the truth? Oh my heavens, yes, I made it. Barely. Haha. But let’s celebrate the end of the week in a different way, with something flavorful and ALLERGY friendly.
You see, this past week was Allergy Awareness week. Did you know that? I bet some of you did, but the majority didn’t. Crazy thing is that so many people are affected by food allergies and intolerances these days. Yup, myself included. And it’s always important (in my humble opinion) to be supportive of both!
So let’s chat about this a little more, mm k?
What are the TOP FOOD allergens? Â —> These 8!
- dairy
- wheat/gluten
- soy
- egg
- peanut
- tree nut
- fish
- shellfishÂ
Darn, that’s a lot. Now that doesn’t mean that those allergic to one food are allergic to all. But it is common to see an intolerance paired with an allergy. Usually due to low immunity system, poor gut health, and even genetics. I know, for me, dairy was an issue (intolerance) until I could heal the damage from my gluten allergy. Luckily, I am able to handle cultured dairy and low lactose dairy now.
The chart above is another great resource/tool for those who’d like the know more between the two or are confused. Alisa posted this week. She also posted a TON of other great resources, so be sure to visit THIS POST for more on FOOD ALLERGIES!
Now that we are all a little more “aware” of these allergies, let’s get to some gluten free and dairy free bread recipes!
Below are are a few of my favorite go-to gluten free and dairy free bread recipes. All are soy free with a few being egg free too! These recipes will bring a smile to anyone suffering with certain food allergies. Why? Because they don’t taste like cardboard! Haha, finally, tasty healthy allergy friendly breads!
Let’s begin. Drool napkin in hand, ready?
Cocoa Hazelnut Molasses Bread – This is my favorite recipe for a chocolate dessert bread. It’s rich but not too sweet! Great with coffee, always!
Savory Indian Chickpea Pancakes/Crepes – This recipe is posted on Alissa’s site but the actually is from Richa’s new Vegan Indian Kitchen cookbook. Looks amazing, right? no eggs, dairy, or gluten. Just lots of FLAVOR!!
Lexi made this amazing and simple sandwich rolls. Paleo friendly! Look at the color and the flexibility. Perfect for burgers!
Kelly made this dairy free gluten free Blueberry banana bread that just screams summer, spring, and all things brunch! Oh wow. Simple, healthy, delicious!
But let’s not forget bananas and bread! How about a healthy vegan, gluten-free, soy free banana bread? Miryam has one that looks amazing and sounds super simple. Can’t wait to try it!
Ever tried making your own bagels? I have not since eating gluten free. But that’s about to change! I can’t wait to try Brianne’s Gluten Free and Dairy Free Cinnamon Raisin Bagels. Ahh, wow, impressive, right? Hand me the coconut butter please!
Okay, so I think I got you covered; dessert bread, sandwich bread, breakfast/brunch breads, Bagels, and pancakes. Um, YUM! That means you have no excuse not to make one of these gluten free and dairy free bread recipes this weekend for a leisurely breakfast!
Cheers to Friday and allergy awareness week!
Are you allergic or intolerant to any foods? What’s your go to “allergy friendly” recipe?
I need a healthy wheat bread ,
Hi Donna! We don’t have any wheat bread recipes on the site. This is a gluten free recipe blog. Happy to send you other bread recipes though!
I would like a bread recipe that I can eat as sandwich bread. My allergies are: gluten, dairy, eggs, and strawberries. I can drink lactose free milk, I can eat Daiya cheese products, but I miss home made bread and donuts. Can you help me? I have always been allergic to strawberries, so I am okay with that, I substitute raspberries. However, I am a grandma and after my last foot surgery, I found I can no longer eat gluten, dairy, or eggs. I love to bake and cook, but am so frustrated now, since i can no longer eat any of my recipes. Thank you for your help.
So sorry to hear that Jolene. I definitely understand. Have you tried making my vegan naan bread or homemade bread? https://www.cottercrunch.com/vegan-bread-recipe/
The banana bread is not vegan. It contains eggs.
These are just dairy free and gluten free, not vegan. SOrry about the confusion Cindi.

Great options, Lindsay! I’ve recently started on the gluten/dairy/eggs free path so these choices are perfect. Thanks!

Such a nice post, keep providing good resources.
Hi Lindsay, these are really good for the end of the week, but I am sure it will be amazing to start my week. I am literally drooling with your Cocoa Hazelnut Molasses Bread, I agree with you that it is good in coffee, but how about pairing it with a cold glass of hong kong ice tea. Nom! Nom! I have the feeling that it will be superb =) Oh, I need to go, need to buy the ingredients and order my favorite mott32’s ice tea 😉
oh for sure! that bread is my favorite!!! you must try
BREAD!!!!!!!! I LIVED on ONLY BREAD for the first 7 years of my life. Perhaps that is why I now have a gluten intolerance?! Sweet lol
These look amazing. I have my first summer off in 11 years off teaching (3 week countdown) and I really want to spend that time trying some GF baking, but I am afraid I will engulf it all myself and gain a bazillion pounds.
I freeze a lot of my baking treats! Helps a lot
Thanks Lindsay! Can you recommend any allergy/sensitivity tests that actually work and are accurate? I’ve been hearing a bit about MRT testing?
MRT for food allergies or food sensitivities. Food allergies are definitely a whole new ball game.
I can’t wait to try these – they look delicious and inventive.
i agree! can’t wait to try the sandwich bread!
I can’t believe these are all gluten-free! They look all unreal!
i know, right? so delish!
I am not GF but I LOVE BREAD!!! I think I may have died & gone to heaven looking at these yummy recipes!!! Now if someone would make & send to me like the blueberry, banana bread or bagel ones. 🙂
Great post for those that need to eat this way!!!!
i know, right?! I still gotta try silver bakery!
I do have random fruit and vegetable allergies, slight nut allergies (almonds, walnuts, sometimes others – mostly raw form, it’s all oral allergy syndrome related) and last summer, discovered I am allergic to calamari. Allergies are not fun but I am thankful to not have severe reactions. I just have to be careful!
calamari? Oh wow, was it a skin reaction too?
Yes! Full body rash. Awful!
YUM! These all look fantastic. I am fortunate not to be intolerant any longer but used to be lactose intolerant. I was over the moon when I realized I could have hard/aged cheeses without a problem! And now I am even happier I can have dairy no problem. Perhaps some things you can outgrow (or will yourself out of as I tried to do lol)
I know, hard aged cheese is like the best thing EVER!!! with wine, duh. haha
Love this, now which one should I try first?
one per day? haha. my plan!
Should not have read this hungry… YUM! I love chickpea pancakes.
slather hot sauce on on it and youre set, right?
Knock on wood, I don’t have any allergies/intolerances yet. I used to be allergic to dairy products as a kid, but somehow grew out of it. This is a GREAT resource for everyone. Thanks for sharing! xoxo
oh that’s a good thing. Glad you are able to enjoy that goodness now!
LOVE this post!! Pinning 🙂
i wish when we pinned these, they would magically appear on our kitchen counter next, right? haha
This week (well the whole month) is the BEST! I love raising awareness for something so close to my heart! Great picks!
and you are great at it!
What a gorgeous line-up of recipes – so varied! Thanks for the link ups Lindsay – greatly appreciated! Pinned, stumbled, etc 🙂
thank you for the lovely recipe or reference. xxoo
You are such a great resource for people! I’m thankful that I don’t have to think twice about ingredients (beyond real food) b/c I have no sensitivities or allergies, but I know there are so many folks who do, which is where you come in!
And thank you for always supporting others who do!
you are an ass…et to the HLB community. Cornbread (GF) cotter to the rescue!
oh I see what you did there… haha, clever
Between my daughter and I, we have those first two food groups covered! I am so severely lactose intolerant that I could clear a room within an hour of drinking a cup of milk – TMI right?! 🙂 My daughter has a slight gluten sensitivity and does indulge in gluten filled treats occasionally with her friends – but I try to make most of our meals GF – so this line up has got to be saved! Thanks Lindsay and hope you have a wonderful weekend! xx
never too much TMI with me! haha totally relatable
Those all look delicious and I am really impressed with how people have gotten so good at improving their GF bread recipes!
i agree! so impressed by skills here!
They all look good and we try to stay both grain and dairy free here in my house. Not always possible with kids, but for my husband and I it’s a must. The bagels look interesting— a big bagel and cream cheese is something I kind of miss, it would be nice to have an alternative.
Wow what a resource, this is SO perfect for me as I’ve been in a baking idea slump!
Woahhhh homemade bagels? That’s like expert level, haha. I love homemade breads so these are perfect for my gluten free friends 🙂
totally! i need a bagel pan, do those exist?
No allergies or intolerances here, but no matter, cause all these recipes look super delicious. I have been craving banana bread as of late, yum!
me too!!
What a great infographic– so many people get the two twisted. I really am interested in those bagels. I make gluten free breads often, but I’ve never tried bagels!
These are great alternatives, and I love that chart (pinning right now). Happy Friday Lindsay!
i know, the chart is so useful. I need to share it with tons of people who are searching for answers.
Homemade gf bread is the best gf bread! I’ve tweaked a bread recipe and finally think I’ve got it. The best ever if I do say so myself. Now I want to make bagels 🙂
oh please share it!
