Top Food Allergens

So many people are affected by food allergies and intolerances these days. Yup, myself included. And it’s always important (in my humble opinion) to be supportive of both! So let’s chat about this a little more, mm k?

  1. Dairy
  2. Wheat/gluten
  3. Soy
  4. Egg
  5. Peanut
  6. Tree nuts
  7. Fish
  8. Shellfish

Allergy vs. Intolerance

This doesn’t mean that those allergic to one food are allergic to all. But it is common to see an intolerance paired with an allergy. Usually due to low immunity system, poor gut health, and even genetics. I know, for me, dairy was an issue (intolerance) until I could heal the damage from my gluten allergy. Luckily, I am able to handle cultured dairy and low lactose dairy now.

The chart below is a great resource for those who’d like the know more between the two or are confused. My friend Alisa also has a great post on the subject if you would like to read more. She also posted a ton of other great resources and recipes, so be sure to visit her site for more on food allergies!

I would like a bread recipe that I can eat as sandwich bread. My allergies are: gluten, dairy, eggs, and strawberries. I can drink lactose free milk, I can eat Daiya cheese products, but I miss home made bread and donuts. Can you help me? I have always been allergic to strawberries, so I am okay with that, I substitute raspberries. However, I am a grandma and after my last foot surgery, I found I can no longer eat gluten, dairy, or eggs. I love to bake and cook, but am so frustrated now, since i can no longer eat any of my recipes. Thank you for your help.

I am literally drooling with your Cocoa Hazelnut Molasses Bread, I agree with you that it is good in coffee, but how about pairing it with a cold glass of hong kong ice tea. Nom! Nom! I have the feeling that it will be superb =) Oh, I need to go, need to buy the ingredients and order my favorite mott32’s ice tea 😉

I do have random fruit and vegetable allergies, slight nut allergies (almonds, walnuts, sometimes others – mostly raw form, it’s all oral allergy syndrome related) and last summer, discovered I am allergic to calamari. Allergies are not fun but I am thankful to not have severe reactions. I just have to be careful!

YUM! These all look fantastic. I am fortunate not to be intolerant any longer but used to be lactose intolerant. I was over the moon when I realized I could have hard/aged cheeses without a problem! And now I am even happier I can have dairy no problem. Perhaps some things you can outgrow (or will yourself out of as I tried to do lol)

Between my daughter and I, we have those first two food groups covered! I am so severely lactose intolerant that I could clear a room within an hour of drinking a cup of milk – TMI right?! 🙂 My daughter has a slight gluten sensitivity and does indulge in gluten filled treats occasionally with her friends – but I try to make most of our meals GF – so this line up has got to be saved! Thanks Lindsay and hope you have a wonderful weekend! xx
