This might just be the most random post I’ve ever written. But that’s ok. Sometimes I think it’s okay to throw those thoughts out there alond with pictures. That’s why I think Instagram is so popular.
Anyway, today I’ve got lots of trying to do in the kitchen so a quick BUT fun post is in order.
Words of Wisdom Wednesday! No I didn’t come up with that, but I wish I did.
Words of Wisdom Wednesday………
- Always savor cookies made by a friend. Especially if they are gluten free and dairy free and made with love. Thanks Katie, these go perfect with my tea fetish right now!
2. Don’t get stuck in a rut with breakfast. I don’t think I ever eat the same breakfast 2 days in a row. I just can’t! I need variety and my body is always craving something different. Lifeway Kefir with Mila, dried cranberries, banana, and sun butter on the left. Love Grown Peach Vanilla Hot Oats with almond butter and goats milk yogurt on the right.
3. If you’re on a budget, switch up your sammy (aka sandwich). We’re trying to save a little more each month so I’m buying less meat and using up more of what we have on hand.
GF toasted bread with nut butter, organic cream cheese, banana, and molasses. Don’t knock it till you try it. I use Molasses because it’s rich in iron and since we’re cutting back on meat, we need to get our iron from other sources.
4. Always test out your new running shoes indoors first (ok this is just my theory). I wear them inside for one or two workouts before taking them on a real run outside. Don’t ask me why, I just do.
5. Read the FINE LINE on FOOD labels. I hate to say it but our FOOD is becoming less healthy each day. I wish we would just leave everything in it’s natural state, but that ain’t gonna happen with our FDA regulations. Therefore, read read read. You can’t always avoid it but you can be more AWARE of it. Yes? P.S. I know agave is listed here. I don’t think it’s a bad ingredient, but for those who are watching their fructose intake, they might need to be careful with consuming too much of it. Click the picture for more info.
6. It’s the BUSIEST season at the gym. Lots of people trying to get healthy and stay healthy! Instead of getting annoyed, just get there early! You’ll have more space and a guaranteed spot in a class.
7. And last but not least…. TRUST in GOD’S plan. This is the hardest for me to take in right now. I don’t know what our future looks like. I don’t know if my husband will still be able to race. I don’t know if our dreams will ever take off or if our hard work will come to fruition, BUT….. I know that GOD’S plans are already laid out, we must FOCUS on living each day and trust GOD each moment to moment.
I need more wisdom today. Tell me some!
Cheers,
LC
p.s.
One of the things i failed to mention is wisdom in blogging. A good friend once told me to NEVER APOLOGIZE for taking the time to take care of your needs and your families needs. The past couple of weeks have been about that. And I”m thinking another week is in order to get things on track. I’ve hit READ ALL in my reader several times and not responded to emails/comments right away. I’ve also blogged less. Less is more for me right now so thank you for understanding. That’s WISDOM!
Oh no … no agave? ugh! I haven’t used it but I thought that was the new thing. No? It is so hard to keep up sometimes!
i think it’s just an ingredient to be cautious of if you are sensitive to sugars, insulin, etc. it’s naturally high in fructose.
Okay that sandwich sounds ridiculous but looks delicious! I too have been really working on cleaning out my fridge, pantry, and fridge before I go to the the store again. So far it has been successful and I’m coming up with some really good eats. XOXO
this sammie has your name written all over it! try it! and can’t wait to hear about AUSTIN plans.
LOVE your advice on getting to the gym early! I had no idea about molasses being so high in iron! I think I need a cookie now ha. LOVE YOU!
yes! stock up on molasses. Or just come visit and i’ll feed you. bring brookie!!
i had no idea we should avoid agave nectar! thank goodness i don’t buy it but it is still shocking to me. and i agree the food industry is getting worse and worse. take whatever time you need to reenergize. i need that too. still have your email my my inbox and i plan on responding tonight or this weekend 🙂 love ya girl and i always love your posts!
Excellent suggestions, especially the $ saving one. I’m in a bit of a career transition, so after a glorious (gluttonous?) year of not having to pinch pennies, it’s back on the frugal bandwagon in this house!
i feel ya! we can do it though!
Alrighty, I need to change some things in my life!! haha I’m always eating the same breakfast – dayyy after day. time to change!
also, I’m going to definitely take your advice to try new shoes indoors first. that sounds like the better way to go!
I get why people may get annoyed at how busy the gyms are this time of year – but it’s kinda exciting for me to see!
excited for you! enjoy that gym time!
Your posts always leave me with a huge smile plastered on my face. Just what I need today! Plus they are so thought provoking. I love it. The unknown is such a varying feeling. It’s excitement yet anxious at the same time!
your comments make me smile, did you know that? xxoo
I love these little nuggets! Agree with you on instagram…it’s so fun to look at pics….all day. Didn’t know about molasses being high in iron, good to know. And had no idea agave nectar was so bad. Huh. Hope the hubby can still race…
me too. I want to see his heart happy and racing. <3
Random post? Random comments, here we go… the sammy, umm my jaw hurts because my mouth was watering at the thought of that.. ever had that happen? Ok and the “God has plan”? you know I can completely relate to that one! and who the heck knew agave was not good for you? not me… like you said it’s about limiting your quantity. As for you taking time off? That makes me smile… we will still be here waiting for CC in our in boxes, knowing you’re resting makes me happy.
i adore YOUR words. THANK you! speechless.
wow, agave nectar is even bad? I don’t use it much but i just didn’t know it wasn’t good! Great list btw! and your posts are never random, they always make sense to me! 🙂 And trusting in faith and in the unknown is incredibly hard to do, but of anyone, I know you are SO good at it and you will see through the unknowns and come out the other side happily and where you are meant to be! XO
needed these words, thank YOU!
Oh man.. I’m right there with you when it comes to food labels. It truly makes me sick to my stomach knowing the lies and deception.. this really shouldn’t be an issue! Awareness is the best tool against it..
agreed!!! deception!
that is quite the kick-butt workout!! your oats always look sooo good. I wish you could InstaServe them to me. 🙂
you instafeed me breakfast first, k?
I’m officially putting in my request for your words of wisdom EVERY day, Lindsay. You’re so full of it! (Wisdom, that is ;)) I swear, every time, your advice and words just speak to me.
Also, I need to google what an aussie pull up is.
haha, i will try! Your wisdom helps me more than you will ever know, so we’re even. 😉
I love the last quote/picture about God giving us what we want vs. what’s better! SO TRUE!!
Also, I am so opposite of you in the breakfast department.. I pretty much have ate the same breakfast every single day for years now LOL!!
What powerful scripture! I want a t-shirt with that on it – that really made me smile.
GF toasted bread with nut butter, organic cream cheese, banana, and molasses. — can we name this awesomeness?! OMG that sounds fantastic. I just ate my last banana or would try it today! MMM.
Totally with you on #6.
I tried something this morning in the kitchen….we shall see how it turns out tonight 🙂
oh yes, maybe for a RECIPE friday?
Yes never apologise for taking care of you or your family! 🙂 and totally agree don’t get mad at the newbies at the gym, support them. That is what it is all about! Make the world / gym a better place!
i know, we do need to support them! more patience and encouragement!
Anything made with love is always pretty awesome – even if it’s also kind of gross. Not that your cookies look gross!
Agave nectar!?! I was surprised to see that on the list. Now I’m off to look up why! Thanks for sharing all of this wonderful wisdom 🙂
haha, not gross at all. hearty! and yes agave nectar, it’s not really bad but just not the greatest sweetener option for those with insulin problems, ya know?
Love #7 and the graphic. Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s plan that prevails!
that was our wedding verse. I need to remember that more. ok a lot more!
welcome home friend.
xxoo
Oh, the dreaded MSG-monster. Living in Southeast Asia, that one’s lurking everywhere! Thankfully, this household isn’t super-sensitive to it, but we do try to avoid it. Very tricky out here, though!!!
Thanks for the reminder on #6. As a fitness advocate myself, I know I shouldn’t be annoyed…but when the spin bikes are all full within 2 minutes of the class opening up, just because the calendar suddenly switched pages to ‘January’…grrrrr…
SoI guess my words of wisdom, then, are Be Early! 🙂
Thanks for the reminder, and the smile!
oh yes, living in Asia would be hard with MSG but i also feel like they are some of the most healthy people so maybe their msg i magical. LOL!
love that quote! we needed some wisdom today 🙂
It’s amazing how God works and provides words or friends in your life when you need it the most!
HUGS
He sure does! hugs! and hope your grandma is doing better. xoxo
Struggling some with that too right now. The unknown is tough but so special at the same time.
He knows! and HE will take your needs to heart. Hope everything is okay friend.
I have to say that I 100% agree with what you said at the bottom about blogging and making sure you take care of yourself and your family first. Marking all as read is a God-send sometimes!
Godsend indeed. I need to spend that time with him more. xxoo
First? So glad you are NOT apologizing for taking the time away from the wired world to focus on your unwired world instead. We ALL need to do it and to do it more often.
Second? Molasses — genius. I need to add this to my grocery list this week.
Third? Trust in Him. Even if it’s that ‘blind faith’ thing we all have to rely on when we’re not sure where our path is heading. It’s SCARY to blindly trust but it always winds up worth it in the end. Stay strong my friend!
oh amen to that! scary truth but TRUTH!! miss you friend. I need to come visit. k?
You are so welcome my dear! I’m glad you enjoyed them and I REALLY appreciate the feedback.
Love this post!
of course! thank YOU for FEEDING us well.
My posts are always super random and yours is SO much better. Haha I love all your posts 😉 Happy Wednesday, friend!
well I ALWAYS love your random posts. We can be twins in thought!
I eat the same breakfast every single weekday for probably an entire year, then change it up for the next year, so boring.
Take time to enjoy your life, your family, and hit read all as much as you want. This year I am all about being present with family and friends so I say go for it!
love you and love your support! thanks for that “present” reminder
I really love that quote at the end, I need to believe that right now. Words of wisdom from my day…this is what I’ve been clinging today for wisdom.
“you can live your dreams if you embrace change. it’s by taking chances that you will learn to be brave.”
i know you do friend. I am praying for you! Keep me posted on THINGS
I hope everything is okay and you are taking care of you and your family. good for you for focusing on the right things! xoxo call me anytime!!
I always test out new running shoes in the gym first too–that way juuust in case I have to return them, they don’t get dirty.
I’m definitely reminding myself multiple(!) times each day lately to remember that God has a plan for me and I don’t need to worry about my future…so difficult to do!! When I don’t even know what I want my future to look like in one area particularly, I just keep praying for peace and patience, peace and patience…
Like your use of AWARE! 😉
Agree so much with #6. Support people who are TRYING to get into the habit!
My friend, you are so incredibly wise! I wish I had some words of wisdom right now. I’m kind of at a crossroads again. Life definitely knows how to keep things interesting around here. There’s nothing bad going on, but there are definitely some decisions that need to be made soon. I hate when that happens…just when you think everything is good, then you have to change. I guess that’s what keeps us growing.
Max was just standing next to me and asked if I wanted to meet you. I said, “heck yeah” and then I asked why he asked. He said he saw the nice post you put up on FB to me. Some day we will meet! Thanks for always being here my friend. xoxo
yes, i am counting the days. I truly think we will and we will sit and talk over coffee for hours. I so appreciate you friend! <3
My motto right now “Stop being a resolutioner! Please! It’s hogging up my gym space!” 😉
lol, well just don’t say it out loud at them gym. hehe
#6 is a major struggle…I LOVE seeing people trying to change their behaviors to get healthier (I’ve got my own parents motivated right now) but it does take an extra level of PATIENCE for the number of people at the gym lately.
You are such a beautiful writer! I love you, my dear <3
I like your random! Do you think you like to use your running shoes indoors first, in case they hurt, so you can stop and not have to walk home? 🙂 And TRUST my friend, He’s got something planned for you better than you could plan for yourself!
Lindsay, those words of wisdom are so, so true. Most every time I’ve been disappointed, there is something better coming down the pipe.
thank you, needed that
I think one wisdom for me today is just letting it be. I’m battling a cold right now and it bugs me to no end to be slowed down by it! But I’m trying to just be okay with the relative stillness…these things happen!
Also, cream cheese-molasses-nut butter sandwich? Hmmm….might have to try that…
relative stillness is hard, feel better!
and let me know if you try the sandwich
You’re always full of wonderful wisdom [and that’s not sarcasm girl]! I love reading your posts, regardless of how frequent or infrequent they are 🙂 Although, I do have to dispute the breakfast claim- I’ve had pancakes 2 days in a row and feel no shame 😛 But yes, variety is the spice of life!
well if it’s pancakes, then you’re ok. So many different toppings to choose from!!
Very interesting that you put agave nectar on the list 0.0 It seems to be used quite often by vegans in place of honey. In my opinion honey/maple syrup is a gazillion times better than uber processed agave nectar.
Oh don’t get me started about MSG. That’s basically how scientists get obese mice- they feed them MSG…
yup!! totally agree. tastes great but still not that great verses Maple syrup
But… what if you find yourself in a breakfast groove? 😉 I seriously eat the same thing for breakfast almost every morning, but I love it and don’t want to change *srubborn* And I would never knock the combination of cream cheese, banana, and almond butter. I’ve never tried it with molasses, but I got the most random craving for that stuff the other day so I’d imagine it would be heavenly as well.
its ok, cause your breakfasts always look too good not to repeat. 😉
Oh hi there friend – while I never actually do this, #4 is so smart! when i bought my new nikes, i took em outside and had to stop 2 miles in due to blisters. OUCHIE! can you make me #3 if i come visit? ill bring the wine.
yes! bring it! i’m busting out the molasses now
i had to chime in about the msg. did you know that it is naturally occurring in your body? it is the sodium salt of glutamic acid, chemical formula C5H8NNaO4.
there is also no conclusive evidence that it is bad for you! it all started from one guy who claimed he got sick or had a headache from it whereas there is no nailed down correlation. msg is found in mushrooms and meat too! i wouldn’t go ingesting a ton of concentrated artificial msg but a little never hurt anyone. it’s just one of those fascinating things our body can adapt and convert in moderation. my guess is that with more research it would show dose dependent effects but i’m always skeptical when i read a study bc i ask, is it in vivo or in vitro. are they dosing absurd amounts or a bio-available amount? and lastly, how is it administered? orally? iv? perfused etc. SO many variables!
/end science rant lol
can i just say i love your rant?! I am a science nerd and this makes total sense! LOOOOOVE you Melissa! keep it nerdy!
p.s.
blog post on this topic, please?!!
😉
Thanks for reminding me that two slices of bread are essentially a blank canvas for delicious meals. Interesting combo above, certainly won’t knock it ’till I try it…I can sort of see how it would be good 🙂
they sure are! let me know if you try it!
Thank you for your wisdom & for never apologizing for taking care of YOU!!! I totally agree with that. You keep following God’s plan for your life and you can’t go wrong, yes? >3 🙂
I absolutely agree on not apologizing! I’m the very one who eats the exact same breakfast daily LOL. Can’t help it. I know it fills me up so I don’t try to fix what isn’t broken 😉 And I needed that quick reminder on the molasses. Thank you for that.
ya but you eat delicious dinners and lunches that are always different, so it evens out.
😉
Great words of wisdom, Lindsay! And I completely agree- never apologize for taking care of yourself, your hubby, or your family or friends. I hit read all in my reader or read blogs without commenting for a couple weeks. Sometimes something’s gotta give!
My words of wisdom- embrace the warmth. It could be a warm day in the middle of winter, a cup of hot water and lemon, a warm hug, a nice warm soup for dinner, etc. Just embrace and be thankful for simple things!
On a side note, I need to use molasses more in my everyday life.
Happy Wednesday!
i’m embracing a warm cup of coffee this morning and a warmish day in winter. Well said!
hmmmm. wisdom.
MINE? ummmm…thats what I come HERE for 🙂
I shall go with in times of stress do not turn ON the things which sustain you turn TO them.
needed those words, thank YOU!
I adore you. I adore your advice. I adore your wisdom. As per your kind words yesterday in my inbox, I am working very hard on #7. 🙂
[And also #6. I do get annoyed when people are on ‘my’ machines. Oops.]
6 and 7 are the most important, yes? Patience and trust. Man wish we learned that in school. LOL.
And I adore YOU!
New reader…loving your blog!
thank you Chels. So good to “meet” you.
Random is good! 🙂 And I now have a random question . . . why is agave nectar on the list of foods to avoid? That’s a bummer! I like your suggestion to test shoes inside first–good idea. And I’m glad to know that you’re doing what you need to do to take care of yourself and your family. That’s a top priority!
agave is very high in fructose, so think HFCS but just in a more natural state. Does that make sense? Not good for those with insulin resistance. The pic has more info. Click on it. xxoo
I adore your posts. I always have a smile after reading them. 🙂
I cannot belive per ever use things like MSG and HFCS anymore… there are so many alternatives! I think thing are shifting… *crossing fingers*
oh i hope so!! crossing fingers, legs, toes, um what else?
😉
