Wellness Walk and Talk

by Lindsay Cotter · 01/28/2013

I’ve got a cup of tea in my hand and lots on my mind. Usually when this happens I just shut down. But today I am writing it out.

You see, I’ve been meaning to write this post for a good while now. But things came up and my priorities changed and, well, I delayed it. The funny thing is this post was suppose to be about my wellness TEA challenge. I signed up for the Celestial Seasonings wellness TEA challenge back in December and started incorporating more daily tea ASAP.

tea

Now, the goal was to incorporate one or more of these teas into your daily routine and then report back and the end of the month. For me, it was breeze! I love tea. Hot, cold, fermented (kombucha), haha you get the picture. But tea allows me to sit and slow down. You just can guzzle tea like coffee. It’s meant to be steeped and enjoyed slowly.

Anyway, I got hooked on the detox tea pictured below and have had it every afternoon or evening. I even got the hubs hooked on the sleepytime tea at night. It seemed be a great detox for our busy “schedule” as well. And we went through our samples pretty fast!

CS_NDetox

That’s when it hit me. I needed to keep the WELLNESS WALK going. Not just the tea, but the overall lifestyle! But not just any wellness walk, MY OWN!

It’s taken me a good 5 years to figure out which way to go on my own wellness walk, which path to follow, which path to trust. Don’t get me wrong, each path has been rocky, narrow, and scary at times, but they’ve all lead me to a better place NOW!

My wellness walk started off by following other’s foot steps but now I am standing FIRM in my own. My wellness walk used to be a sprint. Sprinting after things that didn’t matter, but that just left me tired and weary. I prefer to stroll or walk briskly now on my walk. You get to see more that way!

Here’s what you’ll find on my walk….

Quiet mornings and God’s word. And Quality time meeting a BLEND

devo heather

Trying new VEGAN snacks but still enjoying organic MEAT and cultured Dairy.

new finds venison

Taking a day or two to relax more but also get some fresh air.

relax trees

Making random snack plates some days and just juicing in the morning and/or between meals on other days.

snacks juice

Teaching spin on some days while enjoying some WOD (workouts of the day) on others. Not every day, not all day, just some days.

bike IMG_20120816_121742

And last but not least.. taking time for time. Time to sip on a glass of wine with my husband, to cook a good meal, to watch the sunset or sunrise, etc. etc. etc.

IMG_20120608_111627 IMG_20120910_065046

I’m not saying that this will be where my walk leads me forever. Who knows! But that’s the point. The point is to take time to make it your own. Find out what makes you feel WELL and go from there. Am I right?

So cheers to Walking in Wellness and cheers to detoxing the mind! Celestial Seasonings is letting me giveaway 4 boxes (2 winners, 2 boxes each) to any of you US readers. I actually asked if I could do this because I liked the tea so much. No joke!

To Win:

  • Tell me how you see your wellness walk today. Is it changing? Is it just right?
  • Check out the Celestial Seasonings Tea Challenge on Facebook
  • Tweet about it with @CelestialTea and @LCCotter

That’s it. I’ll pick a random winner Friday, sound good? I know i just did a giveaway, but I really want to share this one too!

Cheers!

LC

p.s.

So many different great wellness walks out there right now. I’d check out purelytwins and lindsayslist to name a few!

Update: The winner of the Love Grown Hot Oats and granola is Bre from Canada!!! YEA BRE!

my wellness walk is to actually slow down and enjoy the scenery. I am always so go go go, that sometimes I forget to slow down and enjoy what really is going on. there is so much beauty in the world and if we don’t slow down to appreciate it, we miss it. so i think my runs are slowly turning INTO walks.

I have wondered about the detox teas. Do you think they really work?

I love your wellness walk, friend. It’s balanced and full of love and connection, with yourself, your husband, with the Earth, with God. It’s perfect. <3

I'm still trying to find my walk…it sort of slipped away for a while.

My wellness walk has become more challenging as of late. I vowed to not get lazy with my health and fitness during the colder months, as I do every winter, so I signed up for the June 1 Tough Mudder. I have gradually increased the intensity of my workouts since the summer, but the training kicked into high gear three weeks ago. This includes upping my calories to 2500-3000 so I have enough fuel. It’s been tough but so rewarding, as I’ve seen my body transform into this sleek and powerful and beautiful being. Gotta love it!

My wellness walk is ever evolving. My daughter is 16 months and as we go through her different stages, my workouts do, too. I try to keep clean eating consistent and try to just stay active. I want to be a good role model and be around to enjoy Hailey for many (many many many) years to come!

My wellness walk right now is a mission to de-clutter my life. I feel that much of our happiness can be achieved by living with less. With kids, we’ve seemed to have more stuff than ever before. My desire to teach them, that we don’t need an abundance of things to be happy is fierce. Life must be balanced, it difficult to find the time and motivation to space clear, but it is so freeing and worth it in the end.

I think a wellness walk should always be changing, yes? If you aren’t growing, you’re backsliding. That being said, sometimes growth hurts! I haven’t got it all figured out just yet, but each day brings new insights and new Words (if I’m willing to listen!).

And I have been looking for that Detox tea but haven’t found it yet! Loving the “get clean” tea from Republic of Tea though 🙂

I love your wellness walk and that it encompasses all areas of life. I am enjoying developing mine as well. it includes coffee and Bible readings in the morning, followed by a walk with the dog. It includes naps after work or some time reading a book. It includes watching a funny tv show and ice cream in the evening. It includes being open to changes in life and not having to “figure out how it’ll all turn out” .

As far as my wellness walk goes, I always work out to the max. The last two weeks I’ve had influenza, and that has forced me to take a week off and come back slowly and realize that I don’t always have to work out to the max. I can have some lower intensity days.

But, my awareness of it is part of the battle, I think — that and working towards better health with a positive attitude! 🙂 Awesome giveaway. I drink a ton of apple cinnamon tea in the afternoons.

Lindsay, I have to say this is the exact reason that I love your blog so much. You take time to talk about the “for reals”–like some days, I’m just too tired to think about working out. Some times I like to eat really different combos of food. Some days I wake up and my hair is NOT perfectly coiffed (gasp!). I feel like I actually get you because you DO walk the walk, in all its sweaty, stressed, sometimes-un-glamorous, super-amazing glory. Keep it up!

My Wellness Walk is about figuring out my career and what I want to do after I graduate (in 3 months!!!). It’s a quiet walk at 7am with me carrying my heavy backpack to the bus stop for 30 minutes.

My Wellness Walk could use a little slow down. I feel like I’ve been go, go, go since November. I need to chill out, let go, and let God!

My Wellness Walk right now is about trying to find balance…and in that balance, contentment.

LOVE this! My wellness walk is definitely changing and ever-evolving. Right now it’s become more of a mental and emotional walk while keeping my feet planted in my 1/2 training. It’s been amazing and allowed me to really find some clarity. I’m excited for where the path is leading me.

I love that… wellness walk 🙂 I think I’m on a great path right now. Keeping things balanced. And now I’m going to make a cup of tea, because you made it sound so wonderful.
Have you tried puerh tea? I have a dear friend who sells it and it is amazing! http://desta.com/shop/ Her teas are so fragrant you could scent a room with them! and they’re so delicious 🙂 She’s also just an amazing woman, mother, humanitarian… so I love to help support her business!
