G’day friends. Happy Sunday to you all. We had a weird Sunday here. I guess you could say our summer streak came to a halt. Bugger! Those sunny 75F dropped down to a rainy and windy 50F. Really now, isn’t it supposed to be summer here? But that’s what you get for living on a southern hemisphere island, right?
Yes, I know I talk about the weather like it’s the most interesting thing in the whole word, but believe you me, it is when you are here. Haha. Well that and earthquake talk. I stayed inside and did some strength work. The hubs on the other hand had a long run… outside…. in cold wind and rain. Tough as Nails I tell ya!
Alright so about this post. I have to brag here a moment. I know some pretty smart and talented people. You see, our friend and fellow pro triathlete/ironman champion, Olivier Bernhard, is one of the founders of On-Cloud
What’s his story? Well, as a former pro, Oliver was…
“so fed-up with the lack of innovation and performance which his sponsors’ running shoes provided him that he set out to develop his own cushioning system – the award-winning CloudTec™.”
I’d say that’s a pretty smart move, don’t you?
Anyway, Olivier was so kind to send me a pair of On-Cloud Running shoes to review myself. He knew that I had struggled with several foot injuries in the past and thought that the On-Cloud Runners would be a great fit. I was a little hesitant to stray away from my Kswiss shoes, but I am sure glad I gave them a try. So hear me out, k?
As you know, I am a K-swiss fan, but now I will also be a Cloud girl. I think I will use the Cloud Running shoes for all my road running from now on. Talk about some major shock absorbency! I’ll save the Kswiss for the trails and cross training.
Best of both worlds here. And yes, I am on Cloud 9! Ha-ha, I had to throw that in there somewhere.
What do you think of their technology and design? Would you try them? I’d love your thoughts and of course I am happy to answer any questions I can.
Cheers Friends!
Waiting for the sun.
LC
where can i get more info about this cloud shoes ?
did you try https://www.on-running.com/? Or amazon!
After your post I bit the bullet and ordered these shoes to try. I was hoping they would help with my runners knee. Thank you very much for the information on these shoes. So far I am liking them and my knees are feeling pretty good in them!!
The Cloudrunner looks pretty cool! I really want to start experimenting with running shoes once I have a lull in training, this reminds me of all the options there really are out there (not just BIG name companies).
exactly liz! and sometimes those small companies have the best quality. ya know? what’s next for you?
The shoes look awesome! I am about to need new running shoes (currently a Mizuno girl) AND shoes for hitting the weights at the gym (which I just started and had no idea you needed good shoes for.) Great review!
ahh katherine! hello! so good to hear from you. how’s that training?
After your review, I could see myself being a Cloud 9 gal! I’m finally coming to the point where I’ll admit it’s really worth investing in some legit athletic gear.
P.S. it’s been sleeting rain all day in MA. I’ll add my prayers for warm weather to yours!
i agree! its worth the investment in the long run (pun not intended, haha). And thanks for the prayers. I think they worked! sun is out!!
Where’s your YouTube channel?!? Cloud, looove. The name, the product, brilliant.
I talk about the weather just as much, maybe bc I get four season in one day:) xx
haha, its under my husbands name. I am afraid of creating my own channel. Wanna share one with me?
I’m always willing to try something new once – and I’ve actually been looking for different running shoes to vary my shoe use for different runs? Are these in store in the states?
they do! i think they have them at footlocker and on eastbay. Great for marathon training. Olivier said they absorb 30% more shock than most running shoes. I was skeptical, until i ran in them the past 2 weeks. Like AIR!
Wow, very unique. I’ve been on a Mizuno kick, but I’m always open to new styles.
mizuno’s are good too. Totally depends on how your stride is too, ya know? I like to have two pair for that reason.
p.s.
Welcome back to reality. ugh.
Thanks for the tips on the shoes. I am dealing with a bad case of runners knee after my last marathon so these shoes might be a good option. Do you recommend trying these or kswiss? I am trying anything at this point to make things better.
oh yes! these definitely help with knees. They absorb 30% shock than most other shoes. And you will feel it, not lying! I love my kswiss too. The keahou II are a good pair, lots of cushion. I would go with either or BOTH! hehe.
these look great! I bet I’d love them. I’ve been running short distances in my Nike Frees, but need some new ones…
girl, these saved my knees. I was surprised. Enjoy those nike frees though. So good for the feet!
wow, those shoes are rather spiffy! i love new running shoes and the running store is like a candy shop for me! 🙂
i can’t wait to hear how you like them as time passes by!
these are pretty much an endurance junkies dream. Not gonna lie. I was skeptical but now i can’t wait to train longer in them. When the time is right of course. New shoes are like new food finds. Get us giddy, right?
Oh 50 degrees sounds oh so very nice! We are lucky to get up into the 20’s in UT. Those shoes sound great and I love the name. 😀 Can’t really go wrong with Cloud-9. 😉
i would die in UTAH. I am such a weeny. But the mountains and good people would make up for it, right?
Very interesting concept! I love the soft cushioning in running shoes (none of that firm, but cushiony stuff for me), so I bet I would like them. I try to stick with the shoes that I know work for me, but I do love trying new stuff and occasionally make the switch.
i know, its hard to switch once you’ve found something that does work. I agree. These are now added to my collection! hehe.
p.s
TRX challenge soon?
Thanks for sharing this =) I’m always looking for good/comfortable shoes for my husband… he is on his feet all day long and being 6′ 6″ he needs well-made well-designed shoes!!
lisa, these absorb 30% more shock than most shoes. I wonder if that would help the husband on his feet? Does his back usually hurt?
Yep yep… his back is always sore!
ya, then definitely invest in these. I think they sell them at footlocker.
I’ll be sure to check it out! Thank You my friend =)
G’Day to you too! I actually quite like the design! Super innovative and quirky looking. I’m not a huge runner, so don’t know if I would buy a pair though. But I might tell my mom about them…she’s had lots of foot problems and needs some new running shoes!
i know, quirky is the best word for it! They have shoes for non runners too. In fact the cloud surfer is for cross training…. Like WEIGHTs and ELLPITCAL. hehe, i know your doing Jaime’s plan. 😛
hahaha….yeah jamie’s plan is going well….i’ll have to look at the NON running ones lol
Those look great! They should send me a pair to review… ; )
Glad you are well Lindsay!
i think you’d like these too actually. Email them about triathlon training. For real!
aww I love seeing and hearing you! I love your hair btw way…I prob tell you that everytime 🙂
I may have to check those out. They look pretty comfy!
Happy Monday or Tuesday 🙂
you are just too good to me Katie. Thank you! hope your sunday was lovely friend. Miss you.
Those shoes are purrrty!
Holler to all the big feet girls 🙂 I wear a size 10 (or even 11 in running shoes) too.
oh we could share shoes! wish we lived closer! cheers to big clunkers. 😛
I will read this more when I have time but I switched to the Hoka OneOne running shoes about a year ago due to not fat pads in the balls of my feet & after numerous inserts & more – these saved my exercise life because I was at a point when I could not do cardio, weights & painful to walk. The Hokas are for me for now & the pain I had is almost gone so… BUT I will read about them… but doubt I would switch from my Hokas…
i’ll have to check out the Hoka’s myself! thanks Jody. I am all about sharing what works for each other, ya know?
I am not a runner, but when you posted these on Facebook I checked them out. I think I would love them, but they seem a bit pricey.
I used to wear K-Swiss when I was a tennis player in high school. That cracks me up.
I think they are $80-100 US dollars. The site has them in CHF. I think you’d really like them though, honestly. If you are interested, shoot me an email. I’ll ask about mates rates. No worries if not. Just wanted to share them.
😉
WOW!!! Those shoes must be amazing for you to stray from Kswiss. I am about to order some new K-Onas…mine are shot. Do you think I should try these?? You know I always default to you when it comes to shoes.
kelly, email me. I will give you low down. And i think you should try these with your knee injury. I know, i was a bit skeptical. Gonna find out about mates rates too!
At the moment I have one pair of shoes… yes one. They are flip flops. You know how I feel about cardio, so I don’t really need the appropriate footwear. They do look like wicked cool runners though! My knees just can’t handle any kind of impact.
Bummer on the weather front…. that’s NZ for ya! 🙂
oh you hippie chick! hehe, i love you for being one. Thats what makes you LOU!
p.s.
2 more earthquakes today. I’m almost getting used to them. scary thought!
Seriously with the earthquakes? It’s crazy huh? As long as they stay little…. My only pair of shoes just BROKE…. argh. I am now slopping around in Viper’s flip flops which are 5 sizes too big. Oh well.
girl go buy yourself some pretty shoes, you deserve it!! do i need to ship you some?
😉
thanks for the review, never tried any K-SWISS stuff before. these shoes sound great
they have new running and cross training shoes. All really good and stylish. Ever since Jillian from biggest loser started promoting them, haha. How’s the cafe? Still busy?! Hope you ladies get some rest soon.
Those shoes sound really great! I always like having a bunch of cushion in my running shoes because it helps my knees feel better. I just may have to check these out 🙂
linz, these are great for knees. I am the same way.
I have never seen a shoe like that – how durable do those little “clouds” appear? Would tiny rocks and pebbles get caught in them?
I’ve only run on concrete and gravel and so far so good. The holes are pretty big so I don’t think pebbles would get stuck. The “clouds” do feel amazing, i must say.
love the name! they look (and sound) amazingly comfortable.
i know, the name itself got me thinkin about cloud running. Corny but true. 🙂
Those look so cool! Must check them out!
girl check these out for your knee pain, for real!
oh i think they sell them at footlocker too, just FYI.
Very interesting ‘technology’, I’m not sure if I would like these because I’m used to using a very low heel (minimalist shoes) and I find they helped my form a lot.
katie, we use minimlist shoes as well. Usually to walk around in, etc. My feet are not that strong yet to run in them but these are great to transition from an injury into running, especially for those endurance athletes. In fact, my husband walks around barefoot (like everyone else in NZ) when he doesn’t have running shoes on. I try to do the same. I know you know what i mean, haha.
I think my biggest fear with starting to run is injury or hurting my feet. I feel like I need to start trying some shoes or get my stride checked before I start running at all. Great review and I’m glad you found another shoe you can wear!
they have a training shoe that you might like as well. I know, I am be a salesman but really i was sold. I can’t believe it either. I think you should start training for a 5k. How cool would that be!!?
I love the clouds on the bottom, so cute! I know that’s not a very constructive comment about form or function haha but I like the idea behind running shoes that make you feel like you’re running on clouds. And I appreciate the cloud 9 pun #punny 😉
i know, thats how i felt too. I am not kidding either. Not getting paid to say it. Oh and cheers to PUNS!!
That’s awesome to find another shoe you can wear that doesn’t hurt your feet or aggravate an injury. It took me several brands and pairs of shoes to find the ones that seem to work best for me. Now I’m afraid to try any others.
oh i feel ya! but i am glad i gave them a try. You gotta find what works for you though. These are perfect for post injury, knee absorption, etc. Just good to know they are out there, yes?
there is nothing wrong with 9.5 feet. just sayin…they make good flippers in the pool! 🙂
that is brilliant that he just went out and designed his own shoe to make it work for him. I’m totally paranoid and superstitious about shoes, but one day when I’m sure that everything has healed up I would give them a test run! They look way to funky to not test out! 🙂
they are kinda like newtons. Good for those weird feet and pronation, haha. I hear ya on the supersitions though.
Wow, those are so cool! What a neat design. I would totally buy those! Hope you get some sun and send anti-snow vibes this way, I am already sick of it 😉
the sun is out now, but the wind. oh the wind. I think we might need to pray for some warmth, yes???
p.s.
How was the pad thai?
Ok, well, I would buy On Cloud shoes, but I can’t run due to a bum knee… so I will have to show them to Joe and see what he thinks. He often wears flats for road runs/races, and I still don’t get it because they tear up his toes! I wonder if he’d consider the Cloud shoes for the days when his knees is sore….hmmmm.
Good luck getting some sun—we’re excited about a potential high of 35 here today!
they are actually good for bum knees, haha. Feels like you are walking on air. Let me know if Joe wants any info on them. Really!
