Well we made it back to Tauranga, obviously. Back at Trevor and Di’s. You know, this wild kiwi uncle/sponsor.
You see, there was a race that went on yesterday. The Port of Tauranga Half Ironman to be exact. The hubs was planning on racing this a while back and so was Trevor. But do to an unexpected injury, poor Trevor had to change his plans. What was this Wild Kiwi to do? Recruit is what he was to do. And because this race was going to be a “test” for the hubs’ knee, he gladly volunteered to do a relay and support the WILD KIWI TEAM.
The good thing was he had not registered as a pro yet. And in fact, the relay team was under a different name, so this was a totally NO PRESSURE UNDERCOVER race. Go out and see how the knee feels after some solid training.
Jack, a good family friend and true KIWI rugby boy, took on the swim portion while the hubs completed the bike/run. The rest of the crew cheered and smiled from the sidelines.
And now, I’ll let the pictures explain the rest………
A post race smile and happy face. Now that is a good site to see!
And I think we’ve found a cure for all knee injuries….more GF Burger Fuel!
So there you have it, a well excuted undercover training session and one dominating kiwi team. It was fun being able to cheer on everyone without the worry of the outcome. Good fun and one SOLID KNEE!
Back to Christchurch via ferry and road trip tomorrow. Till then…..
Cheers,
Cotter Crew

We just had a skype session with the Kiwi’s Dad in Tauranga – I love it there, and am trying to convince my Mum and Dad to relocate. 😉 Hehehe! Dude, burger fuel is the bomb. You’re making me crave it so much! <3 xyx

SO great to hear the good report! Also agree with the other commenters – no pressure races are awesome! Love that James was able to slip right in, compete hard, and finish with a smile. 🙂 I also love the way Jack looks – like a wild Kiwi (as opposed to Wild Kiwi). 😉 Congrats to the team and to James!
his hair reminded of yours, well yours is more dreads but soooo COOL and wild. I think you are a natural kiwi. hehe.
Back in the saddle again!
A little incognito race is just what the Dr. Ordered. I love it! I really prefer no pressure races. Looks like 2012 is starting off the right way. Congrats!
Burger looks YUMMY!
yes, i think those incognito races are good for the soul, yes?
And, he’s back! So good to hear/read that the knee held up – starting a new year on the right foot 🙂

Love the crazy hair guy!!

Your husbands hair is awesome! I just showed Mike, he wants crazy hair like that, haha!
Go hubs for having a great race and no pain!!!

oh my goodness im so excited for you two! what a blessing that his knee is doing well and that he came out with a GOOD race with a SMILE! I am so glad that your patience and prayers are showing the answers and that you are able to see some progress racing!
oh yes friend. and we are still praying, thats for sure. 🙂
so happy!!! and seriously, I was trying to track this becuase I had put together that you guys were there and James was racing but couldn’t figure out WHY he wasn’t in the pro men! undercover sneaky business!!! love it! 🙂 being a wild kiwi looks like a lot of fun!
haha, i know. so many people were confused! wish you could have been part of the wild kiwi team. That would have been even COOLER!
That’s so exciting!! I’m sure the hubs missed being part of the racing atmosphere, so even if it was and undercover test it probably felt good to be out there with everyone else! I hope it keeps progressing in the right direction!
exactly! a good return and at ease feeling. No pressure helps the mind heal too, ya know?
I want to hear the accent. Has James’s accent gotten stronger since returning?
oh its coming…soon. next week for sure. Not sure if his accent has changed, i’m so confused these days. ha
LOVE the no pressure thing!! I’m thinking I shouldn’t have told people my 1/2 time before this one coming up in March – feeling a little “blog” pressure.
girl that is why i never announce i am doing a race. I am no good at the pressure. I usually post it after i run it, haha. But you are way more focused than me. You’ll do great!
Glad the race turned out well! Is it a requirement for kiwi men to have crazy hair 😉
Safe travels back across the ferry!
i think it is totally a requirement. Hilarious,eh?
Looks like a great race. Glad the knee is better!
thanks Lori, we are glad the knee is better too. Phew!
Yay for a knee on the mend and lots of post race smiles! Congrats and well done to your man! 🙂
that is the best, post race smiles make my week! Happy Sunday to you friend.
so glad to hear that your hubs’ knee did well in the race! i know how frustrating knee injuries can be. :/ i’m sure it was such a relief for you both!
relief indeed! its like we can breathe now, ya know?
Long time- No write- Many Travels x 2…
Way to go on the stealth race! How smart!!
Way to free things up and just play!
(Spent yesterday scouting hills in the area for bike-hill repeats…. Would you ever guess where the best one was? …. Next to a Wal Mart!!
Not a big shoulder, but a big steady hill with some curves in the road that dead ends at a Catholic school/church.
Hub can park his car in the lot and repeat as he likes… plus close to fuel if he needs it 🙂
Cheers!
Happy 2012 to you and yours!
oh wendy!!!! So good to hear from you! how is married life? So glad to hear the training is going well. Hugs!
I’m so happy to hear that ‘the Knee’ is on the mend.
Sometimes the greatest races are the ones that have no pressure attached to them; that are fun and remind us why we are racing and why we love our chosen sport so much in the first place <3
xxx
exactly! its for the love of the sport, not the win. Yes? Hey how’s your leg/hip healing? Been praying for you!
It has its moments and I think that area is always going to be fragile quite honestly – I’m getting used to having my heart sink every time there is a twinge in my hip area. Thanks so much for asking <3
You should have shares in Burger Fuel! Well done to the Hubs… that’s awesome you both must be super stoked. Fingers crossed Chch settles down for your return:)
we are trying to get them as a sponsor, no kidding. the hubs is obsessed! haha. Yes, and i might be flying to GC to stay with you if the quakes return. eek!
So glad to see the hubs racing and smiling! That’s so cool that it was an undercover race! I hope new Zealand has been treating you well! I hope to visit someday. Hopefully you’ll still be there and you can show me all the best stuff 🙂
i think you need to visit for sure, just for culinary pleasures!!
ooh, I didn’t know it was a STEALTH race! 🙂 even cooler.
so glad it went well, hugs to both of you!
haha, i know. So sneaky. gotta love those. Miss you friend. I miss portland too and just the cool vibe!
