It’s been a slow morning here. I woke up early, naturally. Like before 6am. But I have no plan other than to sit, drink coffee, and spend more time in my devotional this morning. No agenda. No ABC of life. Although I feel as if I should. But what makes us feel the need to be busy? To have a plan? Or as my dad would say, live linearly?
Today I want to UNglorify the busy. To focus on what’s around me, in the moment, of THIS day.
You must read the post and you will get what I mean.
Follow me as I list the THOU SHALTS of this SUNDAY.
Thou Shalt smile, because it’s good for one’s health (and happiness).
Thou Shalt Hug someone because it’s likely they need it.
Thou shalt seek JOY in their everyday life, doing what they love!
Though Shalt think positive, because ia bad attitude is just a waste of life.
Thou shalt motivate each other, and daily!
Thou shalt not worry about the future, instead act like a child and live for the day (and maybe eat some ice cream).
Thou Shalt listen to those who have lived longer (parents, grandparents, mentors, and others.). They usually know how to live life FULLER, RICHER, etc.!
The picture above is of my parents as newly weds. Married almost 46 years now!
Thou shalt dip your finger in a just opened jar of peanut butter. We all know it’s the best part!
And if you are runner, then you might appreciate these thou shalts (shalls). But remember, don’t busy your mind over them. hehe.
Enjoy today, wake up, and do it again.
Cheers,
LC
p.s
Thou shalt not scold me for using poor grammar. I’m living in the moment here. No time to edit.
🙂
Thank you 🙂 I needed this.
Yesterday, I spent the day enjoying the company of others, tv, and ordering food in instead of cooking. Some may say I had a “lazy” day, but I refuse to put a negative label on this day. In fact, who considers this to be “lazy”? Is it considered “lazy” in comparison a day of “cray cray”?
i call that a great day, resting with others!
Awesome, just what I needed to read today! Thanks for the inspiration & motivation…now I am going to stop stressing out and live in the today!
oh i am so glad it helped julie! hold on to these truths!
I absolutely love these… found your blog through Change of Pace. I must, must, must re-use these on my Wednesday Wisdom post (with all proper credit given to you, of course). I’d be hard pressed to pick a favorite. Thank you for the inspiration (goal for the weekend: consciously do each one of these at least once!). Thank you!!!!!
yes! use it! so glad it helped and so glad to “meet” you!
Lovely to ‘meet’ you too. Can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeve… And have a happy weekend at home (although the Caribbean would’ve been nice, ey?!). 😉
Loved them all – great positive post! Love the “don’t grow up” picture and the runner commandments.
me too! i still don’t want to grow up. LOL!
Love your Thou Shalts & totally agree! I’ve been worshiping at the altar of busy and I need to stop HAHA!! I’m gonna try… really I am 😀
Love the “grow up” quote…that one made me laugh out loud!
How did I miss those 10 commandments?!
I really love this post!
This is great! I’m going to bookmark this post so I can read it and bring myself back down to reality when I need to 🙂
Me too!! I have to remind myself
Love the running commantments. That picture of you and your dog- PRECIOUS. You are so darn wise lady. I will never grow up.
Me neither! I want to go back to being 10. Haha.
Amen. It can be hard to be in the moment if we are worrying about yesterdays regrets or tomorrows worries. It’s easy to get caught up in our busy lives without taking a minute to appreciate the little things. A quote that resonates with me is “Enjoy the little things, for one day you make look back and realize they were the big things.” A. Moore
Wow! I love that quote. It speaks volume to me. So true. Now we must remember it daily!
This was such a great reminder about living and appreciating this moment, right now.
xxoo. we must try, right?
Thou shalt read and re-read this post anytime she needs an uplifting reminder to sloooow down and be thankful for every moment, every little joy, every small victory. Love YOU!
me too. i need to remind myself. like every hour! ha
Love it! Such a great post Lindsay! I will remember to worry less and hug and laugh more : )
That picture of your parents is priceless! It looks like something off of an anniversary card.
Nicole
oh i know! and i love how genuine it is.
Great reminder Linds… it was so ridiculously easy to ‘un-busy’ myself while away for 2.5 weeks, I am trying hard to mirror that in my day to day life. It’s proving to be a bit difficult! I have to remember to be easy on myself and not get wrapped up in doing everything perfectly, just allow myself to live in the moment.
I LOVE the runners commandments… and the photo of your parents is just adorable and so fun!
maybe we just need to all move back to hawaii and start a coffee farm. hehe
I love the “I have chosen to be happy” quote. It really is a choice, even though during tough times in life it doesn’t feel like a choice. Find the happy in every moment.
I also love the Runner’s commandments, I haven’t seen that before. So true!
me too! it really makes me think because it is living truth!
I needed this after a long day of school today that was totally stressing me out. I shall not stress!
so glad it helped friend. hugs!
Okay, I officially love all your inspiring posts! I just so happen to want to follow ALL your commandments–it’s so important to take an hour (or all 24 of them) to just enjoy the moment. I love staying positive, childlike (in the good ways–okay, and some of the bad ones, why CAN’T I throw a tantrum if I feel like it?), and covered in peanut butter. Now I just need to find someone to hug…HR might have an issue with me choosing a coworker, though ;D
i want to throw a tantrum now, think i could? LOL. maybe a hug is better.
Haha, I don’t see why not. I feel like a good adult tantrum would be really freeing/relaxing. Like shout therapy?
I absolutely love this post so much my friend. So many great points. I may have to print this one out and hang it on my mirror!
i think i am going to tatoo these on my arm. LOL!
What a great post and I absolutely LOVE that picture of your parents. Now that is happiness. Have a great week my friend.
i know, i wish we could go back to that era. so amazing!
Your posts are always a breath of fresh air for me! I love the Runner’s Commandments…I needed to read #s 1, 3, 4, and 6 today!
Hope you had a wonderful weekend!! Are you still planning to head to West Point for your friend’s wedding? What day was it again?
haha, i need to read these commandments every hour. LOL! I loved seeing you race this weekend. You are my breath of fresh air. Oh and the wedding is in 2013! I totally read it wrong! but we still might be coming up to NYC soon. I’ll keep you posted!
Love this!
Thou shalt be present in the now…is mine 🙂
Hugs <3
i will join you! and hugs right back!
Yes, yes and yes, to so many of the thou shalts… and I love the reminder for runners not to compare. It’s tough in the blogging community, when there are some amazing runners who can handle serious mileage! I’m constantly reminding myself to run for me, NO comparing!
it’s funny, i think you are fast and get good mileage, and youre a mom! so i am always impressed! thou shalt be proud of what you run, always! <3
This is probably one of my all time favorites from you…and I have a lot of Lindsay favorites! You always say the right thing at the right time. Either we are living a parallel life or you live in my brain! This post is perfect!!!Enjoy your moment today! I hope you have an incredible one!
i think you’re in my head! LOL!
TODAY mine is THOU SHALT BE PRESENT WITH THE CHILD.
one of my favorite thou shalts!
Such wonderful reminders to live simply and with compassion and gratitude. Happiness is definitely a worthwhile choice 🙂
it sure is! and it takes effort, but worth it. Yes?!
Though shall live in the moment and make happiness part of their everyday wellbeing. was the topic of my link love post. great minds think alike, Lindsay. 😉
btw, its not so easy ‘being happy’. I’ve spent so much time making everyone else ‘happy’ that its kind of nerve racking and exciting and frustrating finding out what makes my soul happy and to live in the moment. but I do LOVE the timeless nature it produces. This was a good weekend. Looking forward to more without thinking too hard about it.
and i loved yours! perfect timing. happy monday!
That picture of you Ma & Pa is just AWESOME. Love it.
aren’t they just classic? love it.
edit schmedit. I don’t do that either. It’s more authentic that way, or so I tell myself.
oh i like that. authentic. youre clever. but you knew that.
Love this. I am all about stopping, slowing down, and embracing the happy!
And PB is better on a finger or spoon than on anything else!
amen! forget the spoon!
youre mastering it too! loved your friday night!
Love it!! Enjoy the day, moment and life! Lovely pictures. Love the quote about motivation/ showering being needed daily! Too true and too funny! And beautiful pic of your parents.
me too! that one was a favorite. and now, i need to shower. hehe
Love this and especially love those runner ones. In fact, I think they might become my new desktop picture for a while. 😉
good call! a great reminder too.
I gave the doormen at the W Hotel last night a hug when he got me a cab, because these obnoxious women were so rude to him. He was thankful for that random hug and it made him smile. HA!
i bet he was happy with that hug! and i was happy to talk to YOU!
welp. this weekend was not by any means a slow one for me lol. BUT it’s been go go go bc my sis in law is visitng and staying with us so we have not sat still for more than a couple hours but that’s ok! i can go to bed early monday night 🙂
thou shalt hug indeed!
sometimes i think it’s worth the busyness if it’s family and it’s about quality time. Hope it was fabulous!
love these girl! hope you enjoyed being not busy. i agree we tend to feel like we need to be doing something all the time. i am fighting it too.
this is why we need a retreat, just to relax. ya know? and maybe go for a hike.
I love this!! This weekend I have lived linear and it feels so good. I didn’t get my “to-do” list accomplished but that can worry about itself later! It felt nice to relax and unwind!
my prayer is to cling to these ways more often, yes? How are you feeling these days by the way?
yes!! I’m feeling pretty good.. I had a bit of a h pylori infection last week, but I feel better now! Much less stressed these days…
I miss our chats and e-mails!!
I love that sign that says “Don’t grow up its a trap” ;). So true. I need to focus on not living so linearly! Happy Sunday
i know, it is a trap! i want to go back to nap time and no taxes. LOL!
What a great post! I love the picture of your parents. It’s easy to see where you get your desire to live healthy.
i agree Carli. They are a great HEALTHY inspiration for living life.
Love this Lindsay! I think in life today, we have that mindset to always be busy, busy, busy and not take moments for ourselves. When we need those moments to really gather our thoughts and connect back with what is going on inside in our lives and our minds. And allow ourselves to be at peace with not being busy all the time. How nice that this post came on a day where I perhaps drank a little too much last night and am having a lazy day today;)
i love it! i hope you thoroughly enjoyed yesterday, recovering and soaking in that extra time to relax. Love your words and wisdom Lisa!
Stop the glorification of busy – YES. I love that one! And ALL of your thou shalt’s. This has been an unplanned weekend, and as hard as it is for me NOT to plan things(this was M’s request, this weekend btw!), it has honestly been perfect. Guess he’s on to something huh? 😉 have a fabulous unplanned, perfect week my dear!
M is a smart guy! but you knew that. 😉
I’m so happy I opened my google reader this morning while drinking coffee to find this post! It’s exactly what I needed to read 🙂
i’m so glad! i hope it stays with you all week Brandee.
So how much of a coincidence is it that I just had a completely lazy and unproductive spend-all-afternon-in-my-PJ’s kind of day yesterday. Love them. Love this post. Love you. Happy Sunday 🙂
i think you are my muse. tee hee
i adore that picture of your parents – amazing!
me too. it makes me smile. Such love. Happy Sunday friend. <3
such great pictures and concept! love it!
xoxo. thou shalt love the thou shalts
Aw- great post! And what a cute photo of your parents!
I think the thou shalt about thinking positive if the most important. It’s amazing what a positive perspective can do!
And the fifth commandment for runners- amen.
Have a wonderfully relaxing Sunday, Lindsay!
haha, yes! love that 5th one. We need a shirt for this, not a cotton one though. 😉
Knowing all those things is the easy part. *Living* them, now there’s the challenge. I need to work on that.
oh i agree! trying to live them is hard, but worth the effort. yes?
Yes. Definitely.
I loved reading the 10 commandments for runners!
me too. i think a daily read for sure, right?
This post made my morning!! My world has been a bit CRAYCRAY lately, but it’s posts like this that keep me grounded!! I am going to put EACH and every one of these into action today. I especially LOVE that runners 10 commandments. I laughed at the one about wearing cotton..so true..such a WRONG move! Happy Sunday!
i think we are all guilty of the cray cray, let’s undo that please. <3
Great post Lindsay, I definitely need to follow some of these. I need to stop worrying soooo much about where I’ll be after May, and I also need to give more hugs because I always need them!
i’m so glad. and i am so glad we got to email a bit today too.
Love this post! I started my morning off on the wrong foot and am not looking forward to my work day ahead of me but your post just made me realize that a bad attitude is not going to help and I just need to smile and make the most of it!
oh good. glad i helped save the day! you deserve it danielle.
What a great post for me to read this morning . . . I loved all the Thou Shalts. Just reading them made me slow down. Which is what I need to do. Ahhhhhhh. Enjoy your Sunday!
good! my plan exactly. Enjoy!
