The Splurge…

I try not to think too hard on the weekends. Let’s face it, I need all my brain cells to get me through the week. So when the hubs asked me if I wanted to stay in and pick up a NICE bottle of wine,  I didn’t even think twice. Scratch that, I didn’t even think. Winking smile

We ventured out to Central Market and asked their Wine Connoisseur for their best red. It took about three different people and 3 different choices to finally narrow it down. Quite the process. After the we picked “the chosen one,” we shopped for our dinner. Cause, you know, wine first then pair the food. That was my thinking or not thinking? Either way we know we wanted spicy and comfort. Thai Coconut Beef Stew. I’d say this paired perfectly, or maybe that was the wine talking? Hmm, either way, it went down smooth and warmed our souls.

You must be dying to know our “HOW TO” Steps of enjoying a good wine (enter sarcasm), but instead of chit chatting through the rest of this post, I’m going to attempt to be clever and put it recipe form.

Mmmm, k?

Ingredients

Scale
  • A good bottle of wine
  • a big wine glass
  • Good company
  • 1 decanter
  • a cheese/fruit platter

Instructions

  1. Open your wonderful bottle of wine. Our half or all into a decanter. Let it breathe for at least 30-45 minutes. While it is breathing, sit back with feet up and enjoy some good conversation. When 45 minutes is up, grab your favorite people. Pour wine into each glass, sniff and swirl the wine just for the heck of it. Cheers with your wine glass in the air and sip slowly. Let’s not forget to eat some cheese, olives, grapes, etc.

I like my weekends to be like a fine wine….good to the last drop.

What was the last thing your splurged on? Was it worth it?

Cheers,

Randomly curious. Do you prefer red or white — and which varietals?

I have grown to love white. My fave is a nice grassy sauvignon blanc.
Red — I love a spicy California Zin, Pinot Noir and and Shiraz.
All time fave? Beaujulais (beaujolais nouveau is coming soon!!)

Girl you are rocking that hair style! Well I finally have power back and was my routine totally thrown out of sync…UGH! But it was totally out of my control and now I’m just glad we are all safe and sound. It was a miserable weekend, but I did splurge on a nice purse last week and I’m awaiting its arrival. I will let you know if it was worth it. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods! 🙂

What a fun weekend post, Lindsay! I love how you enjoy your wine and just think you’re absolutely beautiful. Glad you and James could enjoy your weekend splurge together! Let’s see…our weekend splurge? Not sure if we exactly had one this weekend while traveling (since when we travel we typically don’t snack much and only buy 2 meals a day – we’re cheap! I think our stomachs shrink on the road/in the air!). But I DID say YES to every free candy bowl I found on Halloween b/c I knew I wouldn’t be getting much candy. 😉 We’re out to a nice meal in downtown Toronto now – maybe this will be our splurge! 😀

I am in LOVE with White Haven Pinot Noir lately. And to make matters worse, they just opened a Wine Store directly across from my job so lunch breaks are spent wandering the aisles looking for something new. And please tell me that that stew recipe is somewhere on here cause I just got hubby to try Thai food and he is now addicted!

Mmmm…wine! When I began reading your post…it made me remember the open bottle I have in the kitchen, so I had to pause and indulge 🙂

The last thing I splurged on…hmmm….a very ridiculously expensive bag for work. But it makes me happy when I look at it (it kinda makes working enjoyable!).
I splurge often (and also skimp in other areas to compensate)… I once dated a guy (who splurged too much…) who had this saying “don’t buy sucky $#!^. I adopted that for myself (but keep it moderate too).

Glad you had a great weekend with your hubs! Joe ran the Marine Corps Marathon today, so we’re doing our relaxing tonight!

it was soooooo smooth, and taste soooo good. my dad has a saying for when something tastes really good… “it’s like angels peeing on your tongue”….well, it was that good!
