I try not to think too hard on the weekends. Let’s face it, I need all my brain cells to get me through the week. So when the hubs asked me if I wanted to stay in and pick up a NICE bottle of wine, I didn’t even think twice. Scratch that, I didn’t even think.
We ventured out to Central Market and asked their Wine Connoisseur for their best red. It took about three different people and 3 different choices to finally narrow it down. Quite the process. After the we picked “the chosen one,” we shopped for our dinner. Cause, you know, wine first then pair the food. That was my thinking or not thinking? Either way we know we wanted spicy and comfort. Thai Coconut Beef Stew. I’d say this paired perfectly, or maybe that was the wine talking? Hmm, either way, it went down smooth and warmed our souls.
You must be dying to know our “HOW TO” Steps of enjoying a good wine (enter sarcasm), but instead of chit chatting through the rest of this post, I’m going to attempt to be clever and put it recipe form.
Mmmm, k?
Print- Yield: However many you'd like
Ingredients
- A good bottle of wine
- a big wine glass
- Good company
- 1 decanter
- a cheese/fruit platter
Instructions
- Open your wonderful bottle of wine. Our half or all into a decanter. Let it breathe for at least 30-45 minutes. While it is breathing, sit back with feet up and enjoy some good conversation. When 45 minutes is up, grab your favorite people. Pour wine into each glass, sniff and swirl the wine just for the heck of it. Cheers with your wine glass in the air and sip slowly. Let’s not forget to eat some cheese, olives, grapes, etc.
I like my weekends to be like a fine wine….good to the last drop.
What was the last thing your splurged on? Was it worth it?
Cheers,
LC
My husband and I just splurged on a trip to Napa for our anniversary. So we had many many many wine splurges. They were all totally worth it 😉
oh i love it! we went to Sonoma last summer and I didn’t want to leave. Pure bliss!
Randomly curious. Do you prefer red or white — and which varietals?
I have grown to love white. My fave is a nice grassy sauvignon blanc.
Red — I love a spicy California Zin, Pinot Noir and and Shiraz.
All time fave? Beaujulais (beaujolais nouveau is coming soon!!)
Girl you are rocking that hair style! Well I finally have power back and was my routine totally thrown out of sync…UGH! But it was totally out of my control and now I’m just glad we are all safe and sound. It was a miserable weekend, but I did splurge on a nice purse last week and I’m awaiting its arrival. I will let you know if it was worth it. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods! 🙂

oh i am so sorry!! we had no power for 3 days last winter. miserable!! did you at least get to hot yoga?
What a fun weekend post, Lindsay! I love how you enjoy your wine and just think you’re absolutely beautiful. Glad you and James could enjoy your weekend splurge together! Let’s see…our weekend splurge? Not sure if we exactly had one this weekend while traveling (since when we travel we typically don’t snack much and only buy 2 meals a day – we’re cheap! I think our stomachs shrink on the road/in the air!). But I DID say YES to every free candy bowl I found on Halloween b/c I knew I wouldn’t be getting much candy. 😉 We’re out to a nice meal in downtown Toronto now – maybe this will be our splurge! 😀
oh thats awesome! I think our stomaches shrink too. I blames the travel and lack of air. haha. But i you can’t pass up the halloween bowl, its a must! oh I can’t wai till you come to AUSTIN!
sounds like an absolutely wonderful evening 🙂
yes, we all need those from time to time. Right?
I am in LOVE with White Haven Pinot Noir lately. And to make matters worse, they just opened a Wine Store directly across from my job so lunch breaks are spent wandering the aisles looking for something new. And please tell me that that stew recipe is somewhere on here cause I just got hubby to try Thai food and he is now addicted!
★★★★★
oh my gosh, you know white haven is from New Zealand, right? um OUR FAVORITE! wish we could share a glass together! Oh and I would definitely be scoping out that wine store everyday!
NZ has some great wine! And not a lot of places sell White Haven up here so I order a case for the wine fridge…..such a lush! Well, if I ever make my way to TX, plan of sharing a bottle!
I splurged on a pedicure and some new shoes… I needed both! 😉
Yay for fine wine delight! You forgot a little bit of chocolate at the end 😉
My latest splurge was this super soft leather jacket lined with shearling – I love it and think it’s totally worth it!
oh leather jackets are always worth the splurge! plus they last forever and never go out of style. Well done Bianca!
Oh, now I want a big delicious glass. MMM, cheese and wine – be still my heart. Sounds absolutely perfect!!
be still my heart indeed. It was perfect and relaxing. Now can’t we have those moments everyday?!
Oh that sounds wonderful! It’s been way too long since we did that.
Splurge for me? Boots. Yes, another pair.
I have yet to buy boots (winter boots) in TX. So i think you should buy an extra pair for yourself in honor of me. k?
😉
that sounds like a perfect evening!!! yay for good wine and good company!
now we just need you guys to live closer and we’d have a grande ol’ time!
Agreed! Wine nights are soooo relaxing. 🙂
its just what we needed. too bad wine and football don’t go together. haha.
Lol, we’ve just been splurging on travel with our business lately!! Besides that, probably all of Ryan’s Running Gear for his races….wait a minute…what do I get?! Hmmmmm!!!!
xxoo
I hope you splurge on some Whole Foods trips. Thats worth it, right?!
The last thing I “splurged on” was my last tattoo. In my mind, it was 300% worth it – it comprises my faith, my family, and my passion. A daily reminder of the three most important things in my life!
i love that Erika! Great purchase indeed. Do you have a picture?I want to see!
we would love to sit and chat with you two over a bottle of wine!!
Michelle and I got ourselves a lovely bottle of red last night and enjoyed it glass by glass!!! we do not like to think much over the weekends either, and having wine is a must!
HUGS
oh man, i wish we shared a bottle for sure. We could chat about life, relax, and just soak in the weekend. Soon my friend, soon!
Mmmm…wine! When I began reading your post…it made me remember the open bottle I have in the kitchen, so I had to pause and indulge 🙂
The last thing I splurged on…hmmm….a very ridiculously expensive bag for work. But it makes me happy when I look at it (it kinda makes working enjoyable!).
I splurge often (and also skimp in other areas to compensate)… I once dated a guy (who splurged too much…) who had this saying “don’t buy sucky $#!^. I adopted that for myself (but keep it moderate too).
Glad you had a great weekend with your hubs! Joe ran the Marine Corps Marathon today, so we’re doing our relaxing tonight!
congrats ot Joe! i was thinking about you guys this morning. Glad you can relax tonight. And yes, some things are worth the splurge if you really appreciate it. I love that concept Lisa.
I LOVE this…. sounds like the perfect weekend evening. Relaxing, enjoying good company, food and wine, it’s what life is all about – pure indulgence of the senses. Man I love red wine. Oh so good. Warms the soul 🙂
Well we are going to have to enjoy some good red wine together in a few months. Sound good?
Lol! Love this so much 🙂 So glad you splurged and loved it <3 I recently splurged on some Vega Vibrancy bars and I completely loved them…they are WELL worth it! I also splurge on salmon and that makes me and my tummy very very happy 😛 xyx

Smriti
hehe, hope you get it!
many, many, many years ago a group of us went to a wine tasting. 3 of us fell in love with this paticular wine (can’t remember the name) it was $90….we splurged and bought it. when the 3 of us finally had days off together,we got together to drink our wine. we bought special cheeses and crackers etc and enjoyed an afternoon sipping our wine.
it was soooooo smooth, and taste soooo good. my dad has a saying for when something tastes really good… “it’s like angels peeing on your tongue”….well, it was that good!
cheers
i think that just might be my new phrase! love it audrey. Hope all is well. Whats next for you and racing?
I’m always looking to add a new “wine recipe” to my arsenal. Thanks! My birthday was Wednesday and I definitely had a little Winesday Wednesday splurge:)
oh cheers to you Em! happy belated. Hope you had a beautiful wine wednesday birthday.
Central market is the best!! The closest one to me is like 30 minutes away, but I always have to make a trek once in awhile 😉
Hmm last thing I splurged on…ya know I really can’t remember! Guess I need to treat myself to something more often…
i bet its the same CM i was at!! oh boy, wish I could have met you. Next time for sure!
Hehe, what a perfect how to 🙂 The last thing I splurged on….that’s hard to think back that far…do tuition fees count? Just kidding, I bought a purse a few weeks ago 🙂
i think its time you splurge on some …..kombucha??! hehe.
My splurge today was buying shoes for the boys. Wow how things change when you have kids. At least they both made good picks…Chuck Taylor’s for Jay and Chuck Taylor high tops for Max. At least they have taste!
I’m glad you’re enjoy your weekend!
oh they have tons of style! you are an awesome mom too for splurging on them. We need to splurge on you!
Glad you treated yourself, it’s definitely worth it on occasion! I’m not quite at the point in my life where I can appreciate fine wine, but I would like to someday.
I recently splurged on a trip to Europe for November!!
i studies winemaking in college a bit and when i was abroad. its like an art form that I adore. I think you’d be itnrigued as well. kinda like photography!
i’ve made “fine wine delight” before! except, i used myself as good company, wine with a good label instead of a good bottle of wine, a swish in the mouth instead of a decanter, and a frozen meal instead of cheese / fruit! 🙂 still ended up tasty!
that sounds perfect to me. You live in the perfect area for that too. In fact, we are suppose to be there next april. We shoud share some wine and marmite then! tee hee.
I wish I was fine “wine-ing” with you!! (like how I just turned wine into a verb?? haha) Rocking the Rev3 tee-shirt and a classy bottle of wine- love it! That sounds like the perfect weekend so far!
i think i will do anything to get you done here, including lure you with wine and food! hehe. How did the second MRI go?

i think you guys were doing the same thing last night, right? great minds think alike!! xoxo to you sweet friend.
Like true winos + foodies, there is a RECIPE for how you choose wine! 😉 Ha, only you.
I splurged on a white Brooks pull-over yesterday at the race Expo – MCM merchandise? I want it all!
oh but you gotta do that for a race. Its almost tradition, right? A nice souvenir too! GOOD LUCK WOMAN! I am going to go run for 3 minutes and 39 seconds just for you. hehe. Its my quick version.
I couldn’t agree MORE with your recipe for a perfectly enjoyed glass (or bottle) of wine! Love it. Enjoy your weekend with the hubs! I’ll cheers to you both tonight!!!

You two are too cute. Love your recipe for how to enjoy wine. You know I’m all about wine – so I LOVE this! 🙂
this is when we need to be neighbors. Oh the time we would have!
The last think I splurged on was my Garmin watch and boy oh Berta it was MORE than worth it. Just as I am sure this bottle of wine was for you two! Enjoy the rest of your weekend friend!

Oh obsession is an understatement! HA! I got the 110. Perfect watch for work and play. =)

Awesome – love that. And I would choose the wine first too. And looking at those olives just made me really really crave them all the sudden. Seriously about to raid the fridge. Cheers my friend. I hope you’re having a fabulous weekend.
i am hoping by now you have enjoyed some good olives. Great for replenishing those sodium levels. hehe.
lol..I can’t really drink – still nursing Clara…can i just live vicariously through you?? 😉
don’t worry, i gotcha covered. I’ll drink for you and you can have more babies for me. Does that work?

Yay for some great wine!! I had some red wine last night and it was awesome, but I didn’t splurge on it….it was not expensive at all haha. That’s okay though, it still tasted great!
