It’s been a while since my last WIAW. I’m hoping Jen will let me pop back in. This month she is focusing on summer staples. Combine that with Amanda’s Clean Eating Challenge and you’ve got one heck of a WIAW.
Most of eats are clean here. Clean to me. Meaning, real ingredients, real food. Are they all paleo? No. Are they all Vegan? No. I think we are a mix of everything combined into one. I like to call us a MOOD-atherian because it totally depends on our (my) mood when making summer meals.
This week I was craving MEAT like not other and the hubs’ was craving anything cold. I blame the heat. I needed a salt fix to replenish electrolytes and James, well, that man just sweats a ton and is always wanting COLD things to cool him off. Poor guy, I think his crazy hair is making him hotter. Haha.
So hear we go. My salt and electrolyte fix.
It was as sad day to see this jar run out. I’m requesting more and bribing this girl to send me some of her stash.
Then there the melon and sea salt trick. Lindsay, you are a genius. Thank you! It’s delicious. Too delicious maybe, I need more melon.
I was also sent samples of this new electrolyte water. Free water samples for us Texas folk? Yes please! I think they lasted a whole 2 seconds. Good stuff Resource spring Water, love the extra electrolytes added too!
Now combine my salt craving with the hubs’ anything cold craving and you’ll get a lot of Cold Bowls of goodness. Cold Quinoa and Chicken Sausage bowls, Steak and Egg Taco Salad. I think Mexican and BBQ are our running themes here, yes?
And then there’s breakfast. Cold bowls once again. I’ve been using a ton of coconut kefir, hemp seed, mango, and of course GF LOVE GROWN GRANOLA. This is a husband favorite. I think it’s because I also stick in then freezer for 10 minutes then top it with a little Real Fruit Jam from this delicious European company. Anyone else addicted to Jam during the summer? It’s cold, made with real fruit, organic, gluten free, and naturally sweetened with apple juice. Yes, perfect for toppings!
Okay last thing, promise. Snacking. And more importantly, cold recovery snacks. You know what go hand in hand? Core power and Healthy bites. Cold drink, cold Balls Bites, gluten free, good source protein, natural sugars, tasty, lactose free, um… get the picture?
My favorite combo is the light chocolate Core Power paired with a PB and Banana Healthy Bite.
Wow, talk about some product love here.
What summer staples are you craving?
Jess and Jolene, we all know yours—-> watermelon hoarders. LOL!
Cheers,
LC
May I suggest sea salt on watermelon as well of course as salt and cayenne on mango and I sprinkle it on super sweet apples as well. Whomp.
and here it is…
salt.in.chocolate.milk. <—or muscle milk, or vanilla smoothie…any smoothie.
Do it!
This summer has been about frozen grapes for me actually. (With nut butters. obviously.)
man alive i need this! i always add sea salt to my chocolate almond milk, smoothies, and well… everything. Now.. about that watermelon. Must try!
xoxo
Definitely agree with you on the cold cravings, especially now that I’m in Florida! I can’t get enough Greek yogurt when it’s hot out, and salads and sandwiches are basically my go-to’s for both lunch and dinner! And of course nightly frozen yogurt or Greek yogurt to cool me off one last time! 😉
OBSESSED with frozen lemon chobani now. Um, unreal goodness!
Everything looks so yummy in your post that I must go get a snack right now! One of my go to summer items to cool me down is Synergy Kombucha. Deliciousness!
you had me at synergy. FREAKIN AWESOME during the summer. Maybe too awesome. LOL!
MOOD-atherian —> love that expression since it is so true! Michelle and I are the same way it all depends on our mood and where we are, and what we have available at that moment.
lately thought been enjoying peaches. can’t seem to find figs anymore 🙁 so peaches it is haha
amen amen! like eggs! I’m all over that right now.. and buttah
Love love love the “cold bowls” ideas! That is always one of my problems with summer, I despise hot cooking. I’m always looking for some new ideas for cold and healthy summer foods! I might have to try that idea tonight … hmmm … thinking of a cold Asian style fried rice dish mmmmmmmm
oh cold ASIAN dish, that sounds awesome! report back!
I know I’m behind on shipping you vegemite, but I actually added a reminder to my calendar this morning to get it packed up and addressed tonight! I would like a personal assistant to help me with these types of tasks. 🙂
Vegemite should be coming your way soon.
hire me! I’ll be your personal assistant!
I crave salt A LOT! I’m a fan of cold eats too 🙂
Hugs to you <3
PS – what exactly is marmite?
marmite is salty goodness! you’d love it!
<3
I am such a lettuce girl in the summer! I eat it all summer at multiple meals! Everything goes on a bed of lettuce. Oh and did you just make up a new word? I love it! I’m definitely a mood-aterian!
haha, me too! I just want to dip it hummus all the time. LOL!
Kale… I’ve been eating a ton of kale LOL! I know that’s weird but I’ve been eating it like crazy. Seasonal fruit too like peaches, nectarines, & anything else I can find @ the local farmer’s market, yes??!! Oh & pineapples & mangoes are a MUST… I heart them… big time 😀
OH YA!!! Pineapple it up!
I am obsessed with fresh in season fruit, sweet potatoes and eggs. Kinda random combination! 🙂
oh no, me too! I love that combo!
It’s Winter here but I still eat cold bowls of awesome 😉
Actually “Winter” here is about 25 degrees C so it’s pretty sweet.
Cold makes me angry. Bring on Summer (and MANGO SEASON!)
oh that’s warm winter. Enjoy! Hope you are feeling better. <3
MELON! I haven’t had any for a few weeks and I’m for sure craving it now 🙂

I have never had Marmite. I have been craving fresh fruits and smoothies!! The weather has me wanting fresh things!

Great photos… FISH TACOS! I Love those… not just in summer. Anytime actually. Right now, 2 hours from now, tomorrow, yesterday. Any time.
you and my husband would be best friends. He craves tacos three times a day.. so like, every day, all day!
I love your view of food. That’s the way I try and view my eats.
I’m loving anything coconut, of course. I have an obsession with that stuff and any kind of berries!
i know, coconut flour, sugar, etc. it’s just so tasty! i love it too friend.
I am all about no cook foods during summer too – wraps, salads, smoothies, yogurt bowls, etc. So yummy and healthy and fresh, too.
i think you just nailed it.. FRESH!! Cold, fresh, and fast! haha
GAAAHHH WOMAN! COME COOK FOR ME! Those cold bowls of awesome are calling my name haha
Lately, in this scorching Texas heat, I’ve been craving smoothies 24/7! 😀
me too. i have 3 a day. or bowls of cold mushy banana and protein. bahahaha. you can relate, right?
my fave salty/sweet combo is papaya with lime, sea salt & pepper! sorry but i gag at the vegemite haha, cannot get into it! right now i am ALL about heirloom tomatoes and fresh cucumbers 🙂
i know i know, i love marmite. I think i’ve been married to a kiwi for too long. LOL. But the papaya with lime and sea salt? That genius!
love all the clean eats! My favorite summer staples are smoothies and salads!
i think we all are right there with you! the two s’s. haha.
Mmmm, lots of deliciousness going on here! The summer staples I can’t get enough of = corn on the cob, watermelon, & cukes from my garden 🙂
cukes! so so good. especially from the garden.
I’m with James on craving the cold….just had a spoon of ice cream to be sure. 😉
atta girl! I need to make an ice cream bite, think that would work? haha.
p.s. shipping your bites today.
My cravings this summer: sweet corn, refried beans, cherries, and melon! That’s quite the random mix of awesomeness! 🙂 Have a fabulous day and a update is coming your way! xoxo
refried beans, yep. thats awesome on like.. everything!
Awww it must be lunch time because all of this deliciousness is making my mouth water. Yum, yum, yum!
come on over! 😉
Summer staple = peaches!!! I can not get enough!
ahh, i miss peaches. I can’t have stone fruit anymore until my stomach is fully healed. Have some more for me, k?
I just found Marmite yesterday and immediately made a dressing with it… which is on the blog today. Totally in love.
My summer staples are lots of fresh veggies and funked up protein shakes. Those shakes just aren’t as appealing in December.
i saw and i am want freakin all your meals. Man on man, i am on a mushy protein bowl kick too. gahh!
I crave popcorn. I love my homemade popcorn recipe.
oh send me some. hehe. jk… maybe
frozen bananas! I bought about 5 lbs on sale and froze them all right away and I just pop little chunks into my mouth all day. I can’t stand them room temperature anymore ahha.
oh me too! i’ve been blending them with frozen coconut butter. Ya.. HEAVEN!
Ok, I’m so hungry now! Everything looks so yummy! Is it the jam or the granola you put in the freezer? And I’m the same with the eating labels… I like MOOD- itarian, though 🙂 I have a friend who is calling himself a weekday vegetarian… like that one, too!
i put the granola and yogurt in the freezer, then i top it with jam when i remove it. uh… so good!
All I’ve been craving this summer has been quinoa-based salads and green smoothies. And yogurt. And watermelon. And soon, more healthy bites 🙂
cold quinoa is pretty amazing, eh? I love it with avocado. And healthy bites, well they love you! hehe
I am all over eggs lately. I’ve been really conscious about removing undesirable food off my plate (especially when ordering out) and adding an egg to it. Its usually a great substitution.
ohhh good call! i like the egg substitute. real eggs, runny and all.
Lovin’ your summer eats! That melon with sea salt and cracked pepper looks real good!
I love salads, very colourful salads 🙂
oh you must try it! it’s delicious!
When you said lactose free under the snacks part, you just meant the healthy bites right? I got all excited about the chocolate shake being lactose free, but it’s not 🙁 SAD! haha I wish Silk’s dark chocolate almond milk was a little healthier because I could probably drink the whole carton! 😉
oh but it is!!! Core POwer is lactose free and gluten free!! That’s why i love it. SO GOOD TO!
I love love love all the fresh fruit I can get my hands on – especially mangos and melons! Can’t get enough 🙂
duuuuuuude! me too! papaya over here! lots of it!
The core power drinks are SO good! I had one at Blend and loved it!
Happy Wednesday love! <3
me too! i just wish they still had the latte one. Think coffee recovery drink. yum! Hugs friend.
Heehee! DEF a watermelon hoarder! Among other yummies, like cherries, plums, nectarines!! Love love love! I also love jam! And the Trader Joe’s fig butter is so so good, only need a little, divine 🙂 Love your eats!
i need to get this fig butter! not fair, bring me a trader joes. hehe
i have been adding extra salt to everything this summer since I seem to sweat so dang much on my runs..haha! also…totally tried your BBQ recipe from the other day and absolutely LOVED IT! so yummy and filling! thanks for sharing! have a great day friend!
you did?! oh yea! man i wish i could have dined with you. xxoo
I just couldn’t do the Marmite… My college roommate went to Australia for a study abroad semester and brought some back for us to try. I don’t know if it’s an acquired taste or what, but I couldn’t do it. 😉 I am loving all of your eats though! Cold salads packed with veggies and flavor are the best!
i think being married to a kiwi for almost 6 years got me hooked. I know, i’m weird. Cold salads are the best!
I am shocked you like Marmite; it’s definitely a love or hate food!
I’m loving fresh cucumbers (from my parent’s garden) and cold raspberries from their patch. I’ll be so sad once summer is over- no more fresh produce here and the return of cold weather!
can i come steal some goodies from your parents garden? Yum! p.s sorry to hear about your hubs training.
I’ve been all over the coconut La Croix. So good. Avocados and fried eggs. Not totally traditional summer foods, but I am in love with them right now. That jam looks awesome!
oh man avocado and fried egg is like buttah… good call!
Watermelon hoarders FTW!! hehe
Agree with you and with Heather — I’m a clean eater too but I don’t go around talking about how clean I eat, I just DO it, because I love to eat that way, it makes me feel my best and that’s that.
Lately I’ve been craving PROTEIN like I think I’ve mentioned before…and lots of eggs. Egg salad, fried egg/cheese/tomato sandwiches, scrambled eggs and toast, yummy yum yum!
oh and LOTS of healthy bites!!
oh me too. Eggs galore. Like all kinds. mmm, now i want fried egg.
I agree – I try to just eat clean and not label it. It’s what works for me 😉 I am almost out of my Love Grown granola. Love that stuff. Summer staples…I have been craving kale and pretzels. Not summer foods per se, but it’s what I want LOL
oh pretzels and kale, together? jk. Greens and salt, yep. I feel ya.
