Well, first things first. Google Reader is GONE! What will we do? We’ll adjust. Go with it. It’s probably a good thing. I’m digging Bloglovin, a simple switch. You can click to follow all your favorite bloggers right here.
And speaking of adjusting, the past 10 days have been an adjustment..FOR SURE! Texas summer HEAT, it’s here and it’s brutal. Over 100F most days and humidity high in the morning. I’m trying to adjust running in it, slowly but surely.
The second adjustment came with new running shoes. Yup! BRAND SPANKIN NEW Mizuno Wave Sayonaras!
In fact, this is the first pair of Mizunos I’ve ever owned, which made me more eager to put them on and run! But wait, that heat. Oh boy! I had to pace myself. I decided to switch up my runs in order to adjust to the heat and the new shoes. Run shorter but more often. Run on different terrain. Run in the shade. Run early. Keep it simple. Here’s what my week looked like (all in my new Mizunos)
- Sunday- Easy Trail Run (shaded)
- Monday- A few Hill Repeats (a little over a mile total on road) plus strength work
- Tuesday- Easy Trail Run (shaded)
- Wednesday- 5k Tempo run on Road plus a few sets of sprints with my conditioning class.
- Thursday-Off
- Friday- 40 minute Easy trail run plus core
- Saturday- 65-70 minutes road running (easy)
Today I feel good! I feel like I adjusted to both the heat and the shoes. But I think the new shoes helped me conquer the heat. There’s something about running in new shoes that makes it more fun, yes?
Anyway, I was truly impressed with these shoes. They left a great FIRST impression and I have no doubt they will continue to impress me.
I go into full detail with the Video above but in case you can’t watch it, here’s a quick summary.
- light weight
- Nice tight heel grip (I have small heels and they did not slip out—YAY!)
- low to the ground bottom which made me run more fore foot. A bonus for stride and efficiency. Gave me a little “spring” in my step.
- Flexible toe box
- breathable
- True to size if you like thin socks. If you prefer thicker socks, I recommend buying a half size bigger.
The Mizuno Wave Sayonara will be released July 5th, so be sure to look for them! Retailed around $119, a good price for a high quality shoe!
This week we actually a cool front coming in. Yes, that means high of 93F and low of 68F. You know what that means? GOOD RUNNING! I’ll be tackling this workout this week. Join me and then report back. Wave sayonara TEXAS HEAT!
And lastly, I wanted to share with you The Meaning of Mezamashii Running — Told by the Project Members http://youtu.be/OylzJNss4E. You just might recognize one of the runners in this video. Fellow Fitfluential ambassador (and a woman I admire dearly) Michele Gonzalez shares her Mizuno Mezamashii Running story.
What are you adjusting to this summer? Are you a Mizuno runner/walker/etc?
Cheers to Adjusting.. right?

p.s.
Huge congratulations to Katie for delivering a healthy baby boy Rocco! Rest up friend. xxoo
Lately, I’ve been switching back and forth between my Asics and a pair of Mizunos. Glad you like your new shoes!
oh good call! both great shoes! you can never have enough, right? hehe
I don’t know how you can handle that heat! I start getting grouchy when it climbs above 85 😉
Love those shoes!!!
Those shoes are ferocious! Groar!!! Ah ha ha! Plain old REEBOK better watch out! 😉
The heat and humidity here in VA is insane! I have the same shoes and love them.
I’ve loved hearing all the the Sayonaras lately, especially form runners who have never worn Mizunos before! I can’t even imagine the Texas heat, but I am certainly feeling the heat increase here in CA on my (short and sporadic) outdoor runs.
i’ll trade you! Or instead, i’ll just come visit. K?
I think that I would melt if I lived in Texas. Seriously. Me + heat = a beet red combination. I love the look and sounds of the Mizunos!
Sweet kicks! I love how you say they are lightweight. My challenge is finding sneakers that are lightweight, but also supportive and won’t make my feet hurt after a lot of activity. Yay or nay?
yes! yay for sure! i was surprised at the support and lightweight combo!
I feel ya with the heat! I’m in Alabama where the heat and especially humidity make it unbearable at times! Seriously like swimming through the air!
I really like Mizuno products. Back in the day when I played volleyball, we mainly wore and used Mizuno products. They were great! Looking forward to these new shoes coming out. I’m in desperate need of new tennis shoes…I’ll definitely look into these.
let me know if you do!! We can be twins! hehe
I’ve been wearing Mizunos for a couple of years; glad to hear they’re coming out with such an awesome new shoe!
i know! they just keep getting better and better!
The shoes sounds awesome, I’ve never tried mizuno’s before but am in the market for some new ones, since I randomly lost just one of my running shoes. Weird?
I’m always scared to switch over though.
haha one shoe? who took it? sneaky
Haha Lola hid it and I can’t find it anywhere now!
oh that Lola! hehe
I am back on a no running kick… I need to get back in the game! Although my walks every day have been pretty nice!
i agree! walks are nice during the summer. Do a little of both!
Ugh, the heat! I admit, I usually cop out in the summer and do cross-training, plus some random shorter runs outdoors. Not a fan, especially when I have to do my runs in the early morning when I can’t breathe! Although, it does make for great fall runs when all of a sudden my mileage can easily double, hehe! This morning was gorgeous, however, and I took advantage ;). And I’m very curious about these Mizunos! I tried some Mizunos on before buying my most recent pair of Brooks Pure Flows, but thought they were too heavy (after running in the Pure series for over a year). These might work!
CANNOT WAIT TILL FALL!!!!! We shall be speed demons then, yes?
I think the humidity and the heat in NJ is preparing me for TX. I’ve been tackling lots of early runs and that darn humidity can really slow you down…plus it makes a huge tangled ponytail mess. I always forget to braid it…HA!
we love Mizuno shoes. hopefully the weather gets better sweetie 😉
it has been a little hot and humid here – and rainy – not fun!
hoping for less of all of it this week we shall see!
HUGS
I’ve never owned a pair of Mizunos but heard so many good things about them lately. I have always been a Brookes runner so I’m afraid of switching over!
my first pair was brooks too! but i feel like these are lighter!
My FIRST pair of running shoes were Mizuno’s and I absolutely loved them. I need to get back to them – especially in this color!!
I am in desperate need of new shoes. Mine are disintegrating right now! I’ll have to check out those Mizunos! They’re so cute! (And supportive and versatile and light and stuff.)
yes, do it!! you will fall in love!!
LOVE THE SAYONARAS, hate the heat…
amen to that!
I used to swear by asics! But I recently switched to mizunos and I LOVEEEEEEE them!
ohh we can be twins!
We’re having the same weather this week! I’m a summer fan, though, so even in the midst of this humidity, I’m remembering it’s better than winter around here! Glad you liked the shoes…they look pretty cool, I have to say.
ya, i can’t do cold. I’ll take heat any day. haha
I am loving my Sayonara’s! Now I see what the all of the buzz is about!
I was in TX last week and it was HOT!! One of the few times that I was happy to leave and come back to KS where we are having unseasonably cool weather. (low 80s!!)
Soooooooooooo cute!!! Glad you gave them adjustment time especially in that heat!!! I am not sure my wide feet would fit in them.. 🙁
I keep trying to follow people with that Bloglovin & it just goes around in circles & never loads… :”(
I’ve actually run in Mizuno’s a couple of years ago and really liked running in them, I actually still wear them as my “everyday” runners. We’ve actually had a couple of hot & humid days of summer here finally and I’ve spent the last week adjusting too…lots of running with a fuelbelt that’s for sure. Cheers to summer finally arriving! 🙂
yay!!! you deserve a GOOD summer!
Love the shoes and the color is awesome! Running in the heat and humidity is so hard!
what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? haha, trying to pump myself up here. NOt working.
Impressive running in general but throw in the heat and it’s incredible!
I totally judge a book by it’s cover and those shoes are really cute! Glad they are working for you!
I am loving my first pair of Mizuno’s too (Bought a pair of Wave Rider 16s)! I’ve been on a quest for my perfect shoe, and so far, these are great. Lightweight, but supportive. I did see someone got a pair of white/grey/neon sayonara’s – definitely the color I’d pick 😉
I read it takes 8-14 days to acclimate to the heat / training in hot temps and to do exactly what you are – ease into it slowly. Have a wonderful Monday!
yes, you are so right! i’m on day 10. I think it’s getting better. PHEW!
Saw these in person at Fitbloggin, super stylish and cute!
you need some to go along with your SWAG!
The heat is just beating me up! But this week we have a treat – a major cool down for us. Highs only mid 80’s and actually having a low temp for a change – like 65 degrees! It’s like spring all over again. I’m downright giddy LOL
Running in heat KILLS me. Here in Savannah it’s the heat + the 95% humidity that makes me want to cry. Those shoes look awesome!
oh goodness yes, i would cry too!
I think Mizunos ar ethe only running shoe I haven’t tried! Perhaps I’ll be cleared to workout today… 🙂
I feel you on the heat… it’s so HUMID too. Can’t. Breathe.
i think the twins would love them!
Isn’t this heat crazy? It does make our move next week just a tad bit easier! I am loving these Mizunos too- thinking they might be my Philly marathon shoe!
i think they would be awesome for marathon training!
I HATE (not) that I dont run and I WANNNT THESE NOW 🙂
the color the fit the color how they fit?!
I might start running around the lake if I had em 🙂
if you started running ,i’d have to come run with you! A trip!
I’ve never tried out Mizuno’s before, but I’ve always heard nothing but awesome things about their sneaks! Great review girl 🙂
p.s. love the pink and purple color. So pretty! Ha
the color is the best, isn’t it?!
