Racing Update and Steak Therapy

by Lindsay Cotter · 06/29/2012

I think I’ve started this blog post three times already. You see, I really had (have) no idea how to just blurt it out. I guess there’s no right way either, eh?

The past few months have been HARD! Hard to watch I’d say. The hubs has been back and forth with knee problems, not like last year, but still lingering. We’ve seen several doctors, tried multiple solutions, and finally found out that there is one thing left to do…. REST. Not give up, not throw in the towel, but REST and REGENERATE the cartilage in his knee.

Rest, in the middle of the season? Ouch, that’s more painful than truly resting.

But..

We’ve had our pity party.

We’re over it.

We’re gonna give it time.

If the video isn’t working, just go here.

And me? Well… all I can do is pray, be cheerful (or at least attempt to be, haha), and be there for support. It’s THE LEAST I can do for this strong man.

IMG_20120626_221628

And maybe some steak therapy. Yes, you heard be right. Steak therapy. A woman’s food therapy might be a glass of wine, some chocolate, etc. But a man’s therapy is meat.. and TEXAS size one.

A Texas sized T-bone with a little spice and sass.

It “cured” all! Haha, kinda. Winking smile

The Marinade: Caraway Seed, lime juice, Franks hot sauce, and ginger sesame dressing

IMG_20120627_175543

The toppings: grilled corn, figs, and a little onion.

IMG_20120627_180306

The final result: Deliciousness

IMG_20120627_190539

Let’s not forget the wine, which I bought purely for the name.

Un4seen, yes.. that’s us right about now.

Thanks Alysia for hosting the WINE of the WEEK!

WOTWbutton250x250

I usually end with a question, but today is different. I’ll end with a

THANK YOU!

Thank you for letting us share, for support, for just venting.

AMEN!

Cheers,

LC

My brother is a triathlete and has been roughing out knee issues for awhile, so I can semi-relate! Everything happens for a reason…

I haven’t tried out the healthy bites yet because I’m out of protein powder… but I’m going to get some today and then make them this weekend! I’m thinking of trying either the apple fritter or chocolate coconut. Or both 🙂

Man, i know the feeling. After coming back from a femoral neck stress fracture and two and a half months of building base mileage. I felt some sensations in the area and have taken three days completely off ( a world record). As much as it kills me, I know it’s for the best and can’t let myself too down, but some time stomping your feet and throwing a pity party helps. I think it helps to know… we all go through this damn injury thing and we can pull through.

The answer to the knee will come in time, and when it does it will make racing again even more special. All I know is that being injured has taught me more about racing in the most subtle way. Just keep believing there is a reason for the injury to be hanging around longer- whatever the reason is, and however frustrating it is….there is a reason. And when he comes back, he will come back stronger and wiser for it.

yes, i totally knew you’d understand. You work so hard for something that has to be put “on hold.” But good things come to those who wait, right? xxoo

Yes, what do they say? Something on the lines of “God laughs at those who make plans.” Hence why I’m trying to go on adventure with no set “plans”.

Hopefully some serious rest will have him back in no time! I once had foot pains for 6 months before finally going to a doc and finding out it was a stress fracture. After complete rest for only 6 weeks it was 100% healed! I’ll pray for a speedy recovery for James as well.

I’m loving the Surrendered Life plan!

And sometimes you have to sit silently and be patient. I can’t imagine how hard it is for J, but everything happens for a reason and you’re verse is perfect.

I’ll be praying for y’all. And don’t thank us for listening, more than happy to come here and listen to you talk about anything! Hugs and support 110%.

i just emailed the kiwi after watching the video. i am so sad for him (and you) but the decision is a smart one. he needs to heal and recover, and i have no doubt he will come back stronger than ever before.

btw, as a woman, i crave and need steak 😉 and wine. and chocolate 😉

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear he’s had to make this decision…but it’s for the best and at least you guys are both smart enough to understand why. I’m glad he’s ready to strengthen up and come back strong! I’m praying for you both for a smooth (off) season and that everything starts working in James’ favor.

BTW…you have such a calming voice. So laid back!

I’m sorry James is having a hard time this season (and last). Has James ever thought about going into a coaching role? As a professional I am sure there are lots of people in and around Austin you would love training and coaching from him. Especially in Austin…the triathalon movement is HUGE here.
