If you follow me on instagram, you’d know that we’re kinda obsessed with smoothies these days. Pretty sure I post one a day but we probably drink 2 a day due to the heat in Texas. Training in the heat means our smoothie consumption. Bring it on Summer! The Cotters are ready for YOU!
Yep. Needless to say, I’m all about drinking your veggies. And since today is national DRINK YOUR VEGGIES day, I thought I’d share a few of my “drink your veggies” smoothies.” We add in Barleans Berry Greens to smoothies (the easy way to add in greens) but I’ve also added in some REAL veggies in a few of these smoothies. Sneaky, eh?
Take this smoothie for example. It’s Vanilla, bourbon, and banana. I used almond milk, vanilla whey, vanilla bean, bourbon flavoring, frozen banana, and……….SQUASH. Yep, makes it thicker. A little steamed butternut squash.
This one is a favorite. Frozen Berries, cocoa powder, Barleans Berry greens, almond milk, protein, and BASIL. Basil is a veggie, right? Or both herb and veggie. Bonus points! Benefits of basil—>go here!
Remember this one I posted about last week? Mango Peach Caramel with…..AVOCADO! It’s green, it’s a veggie or a fruit. I still can’t remember. I say both! you?
And last but not least… the ultimate REFRESHER smoothie. I used Silk Coconut milk (I bet lauren approves) in this smoothie along with Cinnamon, cucumber, Vanilla Protein, Ice, and Basil. Real recipe is linked here. Gosh this one is so GOOD!
Bonus: This one doesn’t have veggies in it, but it is a very GOOD post workout smoothie. Cherry Coconut Banana Cocoa Smoothie. Frozen cherries for anti-inflammatory. Coconut and Banana for potassium. Unsweetened cocoa powder for anti-oxidants, and then add in your favorite protein powder for muscle repair. BAM!

Great post! Thanks for sharing these smoothie ideas 🙂
let me know if you try any!!
I added basil & cucumber to a kale-berry smoothie this morning. Very refreshing!
Mmmmmmmm! 😀
I use plenty of veggies in smoothies and rather little fruit, because I tend to have problems handling the sugar in fruit. Vanilla SunWarrior is nice to add some sweetness instead. 🙂
Basil is one of my favorite ingredients in smoothies, so is ginger. I’m not a big fan of creamy smoothies, I prefer them fresh and a little tangy. Favorite veggies are cucumber, celeriac, and spinach (I use organic frozen because fresh is nearly impossible to get, particularly organic), and fruit like apples, nectarines, pears, mango, or berries.
i wish i could eat apples. Sigh.. still a no no for my stomach. But love the mango!
I LOVE SMOOTHIE RECIPES!!! MMMMM!!! Definitely one of my favorite snacks!
I am really into beet juice these days, so much so that I want to invest in a juicer. I love Green smoothies as well, but need to get a better blender, my kale is chunky, blah.
I’ve definitely been more into smoothies lately too, and basil and avocado are some of my favorite ingredients for smoothies. Of course, kale (frozen) and spinach are right up there too. I love it all!!
YUM! Those are all amazing smoothie recipes! Way to fuel properly and nourish wholly – especially in that Texas heat! (I wouldn’t mind a littttle more of that up north…) 😉
since you got me started on smoothies and vega shakes, I barely go a day without one! I alternate between two smoothies my “treat” one which is the Vega One (Chai or Vanilla) with almond milk, few pieces of frozen banana, peanut butter and as many frozen fruits as I can shove in there and my “usual” one which is usual carrots, kale, spinach, bit of orange juice, water, peanut butter, vega shake n go, and a handful of one kind of frozen fruit. Boring but I love them. Like the rest of my diet, I should probably start to mix it up but I’m such a creature of habit.
that doesn’t sound boring to me! Wow bre, you are a smoothie making machine. Must be from the frappuccino practice. LOL!
The only veggies I add to smoothies are spinach and pumpkin. I’ve never added cucumber before, but that sounds like a delicious combo (coconut, cucumber and cinnamon).
oh girl! you’d love it. For sure!
I haven’t had a smoothie in SO long. Makes me sad but I think I was just boring myself with my standard spinach, banana, strawberry, vanilla protein shake. I thought I was adventurous by adding ginger! ha! I love your combos and will definitely have to try them in the warm summer months!
haha, that’s still adventurous compared to most! Let me know if you try any of my combos
how it is that we are the last ones to know about this special drink your veggies day? haha
i don’t know! but i am sure you celebrate 2x a day! haha
I love spinach or kale in my smoothies! I have been having a ton of smoothies lately!
you are the smoothie mama! i need you to make me one soon, k?
MMM! Smoothies are the best when it’s a sweltering 95 degrees outside! And the perfect way to sneak some extra fruits or veggies into my husband’s diet and he’s got no clue! 😉
haha, same! we have to get as many in as we can these days. The heat is hard on the stomach, ya know?
They all sound so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I have them all!!!! 🙂
yes, and i’ll use Designer whey! So good!
Oh boy, I need to find some bourbon flavoring! I’ve never seen it before, but I can only imagine all the uses I’d come up with if I did!
My favorite smoothie is an apple, almond milk, ice, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla protein powder.
oh that sounds like apple pie! YUM michelle!
They all sound delicious! Right now I am loving mango, banana, athletic greens, hemp protein and almond milk. I drink about 2 a day too! No shame.
2 a day for sure. It’s needed. And i love the hemp protein. Call me crazy but i love the nutty green goodness! haha
Ooh, so many great smoothie ideas. And you’re the second post today that included the omega swirl- I need to check that out!
you will love the swirls. They are amazing, especially for kids!
My favorite add ins are definitely cherries and unsweetened cocoa! It’s a fabulous combo that is so good for you. And I totally believe that you can throw a frozen banana into any smoothie and it’ll taste good. Thanks for sharing these ideas! XOXO
amen to that! frozen naners to the rescue!
p.s.
how you doing?
I LOVE me some smoothies- all year round (even in the dead of winter!). I have one ALMOST every day – and sometimes twice.
All of your recipes look so delicious- especially the coconut cucumber cinnamon one (and yes- I’d add frozen banana). 🙂
I’ve never had the Barlean’s Greens- I’ll have to check that out!
My favorite smoothie is still my “shamrock smoothie,” which I still drink almost daily (long after St. Paddy’s day….)
oh yes! i love your shamrock shake. Freaking deliciousness!
I’m a weenie and only add in spinach, lameola. Maybe I’ll be adventurous.
that’s still adventurous compared to most. I bet those brits think youre crazy. haha
My go-to morning smoothie is almond milk, ice, Vega Chocolate protein powder, spinach and spirulina. Even my kids like it!
which vega? the new smoothie ones are so good, yes?
I use the Chocolate Sport Protein. I need to try the Smoothie protein mixes, they do sound good!
I love adding veggies to smoothies! It’s actually rare that I don’t. Spinach, kale, chard, avocado and cucumber are my favorite greens to add, and I can never taste them, just added nutrients! 🙂
i know, me too! i like to get more bang for my buck!
love adding veggies! such an easy way to boost those nutrients!
they ALL look amazing! It’s been a while since I’ve had a smoothie, I used to have at least one a day for over a year now. You tend to get real creative when you drink them that often 😉 I am loving fresh basil right now, I want to add it to absolutely everything!
i know! and it is so hot here, it’s hard to eat a lot. Ya know?
Not to get all science nerdy on you, but since you asked….avocado is a fruit. So are cucumber and squash! And bell peppers. Basically anything with a seed. Basil and other herbs are veggies though! (Veggies are the roots, stems, or leaves of a plant.)
Regardless, all these smoothies look and sound delicious. Basil and cocoa is an….interesting combo. Strange but good, and I’d try it!
LOL! I knew that was coming. And glad you went all science geek on me. You know i love it! But i’m still saying i am drink my veggies. Cause i sound cooler. Deal?
I looooove smoothies! Try cherry with butternut – it’s like a cherry bomb! I also love to use sweet potato, avocado, and/or tofu to add to the cream factor. Healthy Bites are good crumbled on top of thick smoothie bowls, fyi. 😉
you are genius. as always!
I’m going to have to try and find Barleans. I sometimes put veggies in my smoothies so long as I can’t taste them! If I can, I just don’t enjoy it!
I’ve been on the lookout for a good Spirulina powder and have yet to find one. Any suggestions?
if you get the barleans, try the berry! that’s the best! and it has spirulina in it
I mostly just like fruit/juice smoothies.
I’m with Kat – we should get on board with National Drink your Beers Day!!
I never drink traditional smoothies. I have however, been making a protein soft serve lately for my night time treat. No veggies in it, but a big bowl of apples and kabocha on the side. 😉
You’re smoothies always look so good! I need to be better about making them.
have you ever blended Kabocha? I tried it with life basics and vanilla. It was amazing! creamy!
My favorite recipe is kale, an apple, carrots, frozen strawberries with vanilla almondmilk.
oh i should try carrots!! good call
Getting sneaky with the squashes – love it! I have to admit that I haven’t been too cozy with the veggie smoothies lately, but I don’t mind occasionally adding in spinach or pumpkin. Bananas and oats are where it’s at for me, though <3
MmMmM I wonder when National Drink your BEERS day is 😉
Amen to that sister! Also, National Drink your Wine Day. Or Margarita…. the list could go on and on!
haha it’s national wine day every day in our house!
DONE! I honestly almost never make smoothies. I’ve been making them a little more recently and finally added in spinach. Yep, my first green monster LOL
your first?? how did you like it? Add pineapple during the summer, it’s refreshing!
Honestly, I couldn’t even tell the spinach was in there other than it being greener than spirulina. I think the pineapple sounds heavenly – especially right after a hot summer run!
I love that there is a day for everything, haha. I have to be honest, I haven’t been on the smoothie or juice train lately. I need to work on that!
get on it girl! summer smoothie fest is on! haha
I can certainly feel you on the smoothie love, if that isn’t obvious already 😉
Seriously, I have quite the obsession. And I looove adding veggies to my smoothies, because you honestly can’t taste them (well mostly with swiss chard and spinach) but kale is mighty tasty too. Oh and my new favorite is adding wheatgrass cubes. They add such a nice green punch! And now I really want to try Barleans.
i drool over your smoothies in a bowl! I need to do that. More fun!
I’m all about drinking my veggies! I love adding spinach or kale to my smoothies. Extra servings of veggies in there and I can’t even taste ’em!
exactly! feels good to get those extras too!
I have not done smoothies in forever!! I need to. You are so ambitious
what?!! really?! we must change that!
Thanks to you, I now <3 Barleans! I've also been lucky enough to try Core Power too. That stuff is delicious.
that makes me happy! and baby bump FOR YOU Happy
