That title really does not mean much. You see, since the hubs and are areĀ self employed (besides teaching classes at the gym), our wardrobe consists of 90% workout clothes/lounge clothes. Seriously, take a look at out closet and you will be in shock! I also grew up with three brothers (no sisters) so I rarely wore dresses, in fact I loathed them. And I still to do this day donāt know how to properly apply make-up. Iām thinking I might need a fashion lesson from Jen (PBJenny) and a make-up lesson from Janae. Make me over ladies!
I know I know, all you see me in are hoodies, t-shirts, and tank tops. The Cotterās like their freebie race gear, what can I say?!
Hoodie, Tank top, T-shirt, repeat!
Oh and lets not forget my Kswiss Gear’
But what I do know about fashion, is how to keep it affordable and comfortable. Yes, that about describes it right.
Lets try to pull off the thrifty casual look, shall we?
I call this my wanna-be dancer outfit
And this is my best Huckleberry Fin impersonation.
And when I really need to ādressā up I go for my Jail Break Jumper.
(apparently I like stripes)
Yep, thatās dressing up for me. And the cost? Letās tally them up.
Hat-Ā Roxy (target $10), Shirts-Ā Gap (clearance $under $15), Pants- Fila toning (free sample and LOVE THEM!!!), Capris-Ā Old Navy (end of summer sale under $12), Dress-Ā Isaac Mizrahi (Target $24.99).
TOTAL for 3 outfits: Just Under $65.
This is how we can afford to go to New Zealand. haha! If I had a real 9-5 job, I just might be broke (er)!
Whatās your style? Leave me any and all tips please!
Cheers to your āMONā day,
LC
I think people adapt these fashion lately and once they adapt it they get used to of it.

These are some of the amazing ideas of your for fashion. I love the article.
You have some of the stunning wardrobe ideas. I really like your views for fashion.
haha we are the same, since we work from home, run a bakery at home we live in our workout/casual clothes
i am not good with fashion, i try to be, haha
you gals clean up nice though! I always love your cute outfits. But yoga pants are a way of life, no?
š
I love all your less expensive cute outfits!
thanks smriti, how’s LA? good to see you back to bloggin. Missed ya!
LA is great,as usual..raining here–so weird!!
Yup, slowly getting back on the blogging wagon š
Hope all is well
xo
Smriti
Whats wrong with being comfy and cute all the time?? š That was one of the many amazing things about working at the lululemon store – yoga clothes, every day! Whoop! I actually felt like I was starting to forget how to “properly” dress, hah.
Your striped jumper look is adorable!
Hahaha, I’m totally the same – trousers girl, comfort dresser. š But Lindsay – ! I hope you’re fine! You have a lot of stress, no? *hugs* NZ shall bring some comfort and nourishment for your body and mind. š
Birds of a feather flock together… I’m so with you on this – like so many others in the comments! I would rather save my money for something more important to me than expensive clothes. But that being said, it’s fun to be able to put together nice outfits here and there, knowing you did it for very little $$! You go ahead and flaunt your jail break jumper down in NZ! š
yes, save money for more trips to whole foods or other good food stores, right? Okay and maybe some run gear/gadgets!
Hahaha, Huckleberry Finn outfit? What a cute way to describe it. I’m mostly casual. I still dress like a high schooler, probably bc a lot of my clothes are still from high school. I hate going shopping, so my mom does it all for me!
I love that picture of you on the tub š I tried that once to show my mom something and broke my bed… lol. I like others help when dressing, as I’m not so hot with it myself š Comfort always wins though!
haha, i probably would have jumped on it after! and yes, comfort wins!!
I actually get excited to dress up in “heels and sexy clothes” on the weekends, if I have plans. Last week I did a load of laundry and the whole load was comfy t-shirts and workout clothes. HA! Hmmm…I wonder what I do! You don’t need any tips…If you are happy, comfortable, and like the way you look and feel, then who cares? Although sometimes I wouldn’t mind a personal stylist & shopper. š
well how about I hire you to style me?! Or maybe we can just share clothes!
ooh you look so beautiful in you dress! And totes cute as Huck finn š
wish I had some of your awesome lulu gear to sport around! now thats style!
I have a serious problem with track pants. They are so comfy I never want to take them off. I have passed this addiction on to my partner, so now he is always wearing them too. We look at each other and say, ‘what happened to us? skinny jeans? didn’t we used to be somewhat fashionable?’ Good thing I’m a stay at home mum, the track pants fit in with the standard “mum uniform” guidelines. What part of NZ are you off to?
Ahh yes, the track pant syndrome. thats a must in the winter time, along with hoodie of course. Good attire! Is this the famous marmite loving Lou? I hope so! My husband is from CHristchurch, so we will be there a bit then up in Auckalnd and Taupo. Cannot wait! 4 months of NZ time!
Yes, this is the marmite AND vegemite loving Lou! I’m from Christchurch too – hope all of your husband’s family and friends are OK after the quakes, pretty devastating stuff. You’ll need your track pants and hoodies over in NZ (even in the middle of Summer, brrrr – that’s why I moved to Australia!)
my mother in law is okay, just a few damages. My husbands cousins are all safe too, thankfully! just a little shakin up. Scary! And yes, packed the sweats!!
ok, you are too funny! i need to exercise more restraint when it comes to purchases for my closet. i’ve been much better lately, but i confess, it’s because i need (ahem want) a new bike. thankfully i work in a casual office, but they do still look at me a little funny when i show up in my tempo shorts –heehee! š
oh I wish I had YOUR style. Actually, will you be my stylist? I can’t pay you but I’ll cook for you. Soy free and all! Tempo shorts are office protocol, right?
I love your ācheap Fashion Showā so cuteā¦.I love clothes and shoes but love it even more when I get something on sale or really cheapā¦.I heart forever 21 and J Crew Outlet!
if I lived close to a J crew i would be there quite often! thank goodness I hate the mall!
you look so cute in all the outfits…..i love my lounge wear! the first thing i do when i get home is shower and put on my lounge wear. i actually hate hair and makeup and feel best in my comfy clothes with a clean face š
me too! hair and makeup actually make me feel worse, sad I know.
lol style what is thattt
my style is cheap clothes… NO tshirts unless I am working out or something because I just wear them all the time (working out) and they’re plain…
trying to rediscover fashion lol. I don’t buy clothes often but some places have had great deals lately!
oh where? Great deals are definitely on the horizon! just gotta keep your eye out.
š
Kohls! š
you look so cute!! love the dancer outfit š
i’m always trying to transform workout clothes into appropriate going out and doing stuff clothes! i’m all about thrift stores, though!
yes, black capris can go with so much these days! and yoga pants!! Good thing, eh?
Once upon a time I worked in a law firm, did my hair and make up every day and shopped at places like Ann Taylor. Now, I’m a stay at home mom and getting dressed up means I wear jeans š Most days you can find me in yoga pants, t-shirt and a hoodie when it’s cold.
well you had the best of both worlds but I think we all were made for yoga pants, right?
Absolutely! I would rather have my current style š
You are adorable Lindsay…and your outfits are great! I am so often in workout clothes too, the are so comfy š But I do try and dress u once in a while, I just have no fashion sense ha
oh I always see you in cutie pie outfits, its the college girl in you. I wish I had that fashion sense at your age! I’d would have had you dress me!
hehe.
you are adorable! at least you have the excuse that your “hoodie, tank top, t-shirt” look are from freebies!! Mine are not freebies, yet I dress the same way.. verrrry casual and if I could I would live in comfy/workout clothes! haha love this post!!
its gotta be the “runner” within us. All about comfort first. Glad I am not alone here!
YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL LINDSAY!! I am so with you in that I live in my running/workout clothes or hoodies 90% of the time! I love your outfits though!! You ARE stylish!!
Hope the move is going well! <3
oh I always love your pretty dresses, skirts, etc. So stylish! I’d wear them all, except the monkey outfit, haha.
You seriously look beautiful in whatever you’re wearing. LOVE your haircut! It looks gorgeous! I have to “dress up” for my job, and I hate it. First thing I do when I get home is pull on the sweats or shorts and t-shirts. š
i would too! in fact, I’d keep comfy clothes in my car if I had to work a real job.
š
My fashion has gone to the crapper.
I have an arsenal of really nice work pants and blouses but I end up in my same old dresses and jeans most of the time.
I have not gone clothes shopping in years and I am getting the urge to throw everything in my closet out (except for the work pants).
oh I did that! tossed everything. Just didn’t feel like I should hold onto stuff and needed a fresh start! I gave it all to good will.
I made a flowchart a few weeks back about how to tell if I’m wearing pyjamas or clothes. It basically came down to whether or not I’m wearing earrings. Ha!
thats too funny! did you post this? I must see it!
Here it is!
http://www.love-life-project.com/2011/08/clothes-or-pyjamas-handy-dandy-flow.html
Feel free to modify it for your own use and post it next to your mirror at home. I like being able to tell at a glance whether or not I’m dressed.
ahhh yea!!
I love the wanna-be dance outfit! So fun. š You seriously do look like a celebrity ready to workout…now you just need big sunglasses!
I’m really into scarves these days…I think a cute scarf can jazz up about anything!
oh ya, big glasses, a big purse, a scarf and I am set, right?
I am afraid I have no style to speak of whatsoever – clothes and fashion interest me a lot, but not in relation to myself. I only feel comfortable in running/gym gear: anything else and I feel like I’m wearing somebody else’s skin. I like clothes I can run, jump, move about in, where as ‘fashionable’ things make me feel trapped somehow, and from the moment I put such clothes on I just want to tear them off so I can change into shorts and a top.
That said, I think you do have style, not through wearing designer gear, but through the way you carry yourself. You just personify elegance, and that’s something that cannot be bought or manufactured. I’d say to be stylish, just keep being yourself.
xxx
Jessica, that has to be the nicest thing someone has said. And I appreciate it so much. I love that you feel like yourself in workout gear, I think we all do. THose who are passionate about the sport. You are beautiful my friend, in all aspects!
<3
I’m impressed with your savvy shopping!
Don’t you just love Fila? I need some more of their gear!
man their gear has gotten so good! I love the new toning pants! hello I have a butt now!
cant say im not jealous of your thrifty finds!!! i tend to shop in anthropologie where a shirt costs me $150 and i wear it twice. when will i learn?! slave for fashion i suppose! i want a job where i can wear comfy clothes all the time! and i want to move to NZ too! š take me, take me!
i say we all go to NZ and open up a vineyard. You in? That might cure your back. haha.
I LOVE your hat! Wish I could wear one, but I look like a boy!!
I LOVE leggings and scarves. They play up an outfit so much and add just enough touch to something that it makes it look IDK comfy but classy!!
Also, this website came up on my fb today and I thought of you š
http://www.livingwithout.com/landing/gluten-free-recipes.html?p=fb&s=fb_pd&st=ppc
i need to try leggings more, I bet you look adorable in them! oh and thanks for the website, fun!!!
I LOVE your hat!! I wish I could wear one, but I look like a boy! haha
I LOVE leggings and scarves!! They add so much ‘punch’ to an outfit!! Plus you can find both in so many colors!!!
Also, this website came up on my fb today and it made me think of you š
http://www.livingwithout.com/landing/gluten-free-recipes.html?p=fb&s=fb_pd&st=ppc
Whohoo! I’m all about comfy clothes! š hahaha I spend most of my time in gym shorts and t shirts!
good! i say thats the new style! the new “black dress.”
Your the cutest! Loved this post, and loved the price too š
Hope all is well! xo
coming from you (fashion queen) that means a lot! WOOHOO!
I’m a stripes fan too! Well…when I wear real clothes that is…I must confess I wear workout clothes the majority of the time haha It’s just so comfy!
Thrift stores and clearance racks are my best friends when I have to shop for clothes though, you can always find some rockin steals! š
yes, and I always go to thrift stores in “wealthy” areas cause they have GOOD stuff, ya know?
are you kidding?
i am the queen of thirft stores….i love them! i get almost all my workout gear from thirft stores…i mean, why pay $60 plus for a lulu lemon (that’s big here in canada) when i can get for under $10 at a thirft store, and what i don’t buy, i get as swag from races. really, all i’m gonna do is sweat in it anyway!
when i have to get “dressed up” it’s always a total panic…as i don’t have alot of “real” clothes. when i have the time to sift through the racks at the local sally anne, i can always come away with a designer outfit. i always get a kick when i get compliments on an outfit and then i say “yup got it from thirft store.”
you have lulu at thrift stores? No way! I would be there ALL THE TIME!
my friend, you are stunning! I love that dress up dress – you look great in all the photos.
I love my yoga pants, running tights with short dresses as shirts over them, t shirt and yoga pants and scarf… all kinds of comfy.
when I have to wear something more than that, which is more and more lately, my style is pretty classic. I wear a lot of black, and colors too, but things that are more classically styled. I have a couple fun pieces (a bright fuschia skirt suit!) to go with. I have been known to drop some dollars on clothes (when I had the six figure salary to support it) and now I’m happy that many of those pieces are still good now. I have always said you don’t need money to look classically good, though. š
this is true, go with the classics! and I like it when you wear your cute headband. Your eyes “pop” and are so pretty!
I can definitely relate! Now that I work from home my staple items are sports bras, stretchy pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies! If anything fashionable happens in my life–chances are one of my sisters intervened! haha
i wish i had a sister for that very reason! to share clothes, then I’d be even more frugal. Its good to have those sister fashion accessories, right?
š
the key to my style is that i stick with one designer – kohl’s vera wang. that way i can mix & match all her pieces & they pretty much go together (plus, they’re pretty inexpensive when kohls has them on sale). also, vera wang is super comfortable – basically just leggings and colorful flouncy shirts. š
but the MINUTE i walk in the door i immediately change into pjs! š
i have a gift card to kohls so I should really go check out the vera wang! leggings sound perfect! thanks T. Hope yo don’t mind I always call you T! haha.
i think we have the same style. except i go more with the whole “if i wear the same pants every day and just change the shirt…its a new outfit”…right!?! haha.
haha, i do that too! black or grey pants work well with that method. Right?
Girl we have the same fashion sense! All about the comfort, right here! You are so pretty Lindsay!
oh i knew we would! all about the comfort. xxoo
I dress “up” for work, only when I abslutely have to. which is rare, thankfully. NOt too many people here are into fashion. I fit right in. š
I like your little teacher fashion. Very stylish yet relaxed!
š
I’m in the same boat! I wear lululemon all day almost everyday. To workout, to work, to lounge. I’m such a bargain shopper with the rest of my clothes – I ONLY buy things on sale! I have no fashion tips for you, but I love your wannabe dancer outfit. The hat is too cute with your haircut!
i know, youre so lucky! that has to be the best feeling to wear those clothes everyday! aww, comfy!!
I am a total comfortable-clothes-lover as well — hello I have pajama jeans š
i still need to get some of those. Genius!
pj jeans….what are those? i’d be all over that!!!
Classic and thrifty are my style.
Must be comfy, colorful, and fit the occasion.
I’ve got some to-die-for cute skirts (flirty, fun and elegant prints) that receive rave reviews. Hmm… Wal Mart, $15! š
Target microrib tanks under a cardigan with pants are big this year for school. Yet, my room is so stinkin’ cold that I just wind up in my BRR50 fleece from 2 years ago. I often wonder if my students think it’s my 2nd skin.
Warmth people over fashion. š (Today I was in a down jacket b/c it was so cold. Bonus it matched my black pants!)
And I hear you on free race gear. If only they’d give out pants, I might not have to shop. Ever. š
sounds perfect! walmart has some great finds, i agree. oh and thanks for your AMAZING email!
<3
Linds! You are so cute!!! Um, I’m diggin the Huck Finn. And, I need to get my bootay to Target! Our friends are going to New Zealand on their honeymoon. So jealous!
oh can you go with them to NZ? then we all can go!
We are friends for *many* reasons: our love of wine, very similar hair styles, etc. Just add our low-key, comfortable clothing to the list! š
i agree! now if only we lived closer and could share it all!
I love that you’re on the bathtub. And I think that we have similar style… and the eye for sales! š
yes, we are old nacy and gap junkies. Love that about you!
You look so cute in ALL of your clothes, workout and dressy! I, like Jess, would love to wear cute workout stuff every day! Sure, I wear some of that – yoga pants etc, when I work from home, but it’s not quite the same š I have a dress that looks SO similar to that one! How funny.
you do? is it target dress? haha, I doubt it but maybe we need a twin day! haha.
You don’t want to ask me for style advice. š I love the pic of you on the tub. I do that all the time since we don’t have a full length mirror. hee hee
you are an adorable pregnant mom with style! i love it! oh and I gave my sister in law your website. I told her about all your great kid recipes for my nieces and nephews!
I love wearing workout clothes every day, and I do : )
Love your wanna be dancer outfit, you look adorable!
Hope you are well love! Hope the move going good! xoxo <3
Personally, I would KILL to wear workout clothes every single day. I honestly feel my happiest, my most “me” when I’m in my favorite workout gear, believe it or not. Sure, I love to dress up on occasion for a night out or something, but it’s the cute yoga pants, tank top and pullover that make me feel extra happy! I’m sure I’m weird for saying so, but that’s me – a weirdo! š
i think you need to start a “wear your yoga pants to work day!” that would go over well, right? not a weirdo at all!
The only way to describe what I wear on a regular basis is that my clothes look like what Juno would wear. Chuck Taylors, ratty jeans (they’re my fave), t-shirts, cardigans and hair up (until I chop it off and that will hopefully be in the next couple of weeks). I think you are too darn cute!
oh I know, we are so alike in our styles. I love that! chuck taylors and all! can’t wait to see your new hair style when you CHOP CHOP!
LOL you crack me up. I love the Huck Fin look and that dress. You look great in stripes. I’m definitely a girly girl when it comes to clothes, shoes, accessories. Now, if I stopped all that, then I could quit my job and follow my dreams…..hmmm……
you always look so stylish. I’d hire you as my stylist, if we had $. hehe. and maybe you should follow your dreams…hmm….
Girl, you clean up pretty! I need some of your thriftyness… though I did get a pair of workout capris, a light sweater, and two tanks for $13 bucks thanks to some Kohl’s cash.
Tips… have you visited J’s every day fashion? (http://www.jseverydayfashion.com) she is a GENIUS.
oh I’m on it! fashion tips needed!
You are so stinkin’ cute!! And I’m a Target girl too!
tar “j”et. Right? hehe/
I ADORE all of your outfits! They’re ALL things I would definitely wear. And your arms are BANGIN’, you can really see it in that last pic!
ah, thanks sable. I’m trying to get some buff arms like you!
I love that you’re on your bathtub!
I don’t love that I am STILL in gym clothes from 645 this morning. Hey, it’s Monday!
haha, thats awsome Katie. I love i t! the only reason I got out of gym clothes today was for a doctors appointment. haha.
I suffer from lack of fashion too. I am guilty of going to class in workout clothes way too much, but I’m just saving time if I’m going to the gym after š
oh ya, i am all about saving time for that reason. NO shame!
Glad I am not the only one who stands on the bathtub. It is totally necessary to see the whole outfit:)
yes, because we dont have a full length mirror! haha.
Yes! I stand on my bathtub too!
Loved this post for so many reasons. I live in comfy/ workout clothes and on the rare occasion I decide to ‘dress it up’ I put on leggings, HA! I also grew up with 3 brothers, hmm… seeing a pattern here.
And you can pull that hat off so well!! You look so good in it š
i lovei t! so alike! and my dad is a photographer, kinda like you! were we separated at birth?
