Motivate the Moment Monday

by Lindsay Cotter · 10/29/2012

In a weeks time my husband will start training again. Now, like most runners, triathletes, etc. this is an exciting time. A new season, a fresh start. But for the hubs, it determines our future.

Will the injury come back?

Will the fear of injury hold him back?

Is his career over for good?

jp

Is this HIS year to overcome?

What if, what if, what if???

Those are the thoughts that ponder in both our heads. Real, raw, and rational. But at the same time, what we question is not in our control. Am I right?

And IF it’s not in our control, what can we control in order to feel sane?

We can control the moment to moment encouragement.

Instead of focusing on what you can’t do, focus on what you can do…. THAT DAY!

now

When my husband runs for 20 minutes today, pain free. I say, “that’s awesome! Slow and steady is good!”

177540410279883016_Zbwlm8UY_c

When my husband (or myself) is feeling unfit and “not where we used to be,” I say TO LOSE FITNESS is to GAIN FITNESS. Your motivation to get it back is stronger and SMARTER.

IMG_20120926_104541 IMG_20120921_104913

When you see others achieve their health and fitness goals, and you are still stuck in first gear…. Be kind. Be a Sherpa. Be happy WITH them and FOR them! It’s contagious! It makes you heal faster, I promise. Winking smile

And if all else fails, then remember to just laugh and be thankful for what YOU CAN do!

Oh and while you’re at it, eat a pickle and peanut butter sandwich. I hear it cures all. Winking smile

A little Motivational Marvelous Monday!

thehealthydiva

I almost forgot. A workout to finish this Monday!!

SC20121027-105031

How do you motivate in the moment?

Cheers,

LC

p.s.

I’ve got 2 healthy bite reveals on Wednesday. One is a recipe (Halloween-ish perhaps) and the other is the November Flavor bite! WHOOP!

p.p.s

All those East coasters, please be safe today as Hurricane Sandy approaches. <3

I’m working on letting go of things I can’t control this week…we are supposed to fly to NYC on Friday so I can run the marathon on Sunday. At this point I don’t know if that will happen or not, but I’m totally at peace about it. What I’m going through is nothing compared to those that are dealing with the storm and its aftermath.

Inspiring post my friend! Whatever the season brings you will have each other to lean on and support one another. It’s so important everyday to be grateful of what we do have in life! Instead of complaining about the not so good things. Like I recently strained my neck and can’t workout right now, and was upset at first, but now I feel blessed that this is temporary! I can get to my workouts as soon as this heals, and I have my family, friends and health, which are way more important than working out! Hoping everything with hubby works out for the best! xox

It’s a hard thing to shake, that post-injury anxiety. It’s like holding your breath waiting for the storm to hit. But we won’t get far without breathing, and we won’t do ourselves any good by comparing, questioning, and griping about the way things were. Haves are better than have-nots, and cans are better than cannots. No injuries allowed – they have cooties 😉

I could write a book about dealing with injuries, and all that comes as a result of that (which might be worse than the injuries were in the first place), but I’ll spare your comment section from the ramblings. I sorta want to print this post and hang it on my fridge. But the pickle and PB sandwich freaked me out. lol. 🙂 But seriously, I love the idea to “motivate the moment”. It reminds me a bit of another goal I’ve been working on, and that is being present in the moment. I feel as though both these ideas go hand in hand, and their combination is powerful. Thanks, Lindsay.

Lately I’ve been using the “I get to” instead of “I have to” to motivate in the moment. It’s amazing what 3 little words can do!

Awesome and inspiring post! Sometimes it can be tough to see other reach goals while we’re still in “first gear” but you’re right, you totally heal faster by encouraging others 🙂

No matter what this new training season will bring, know that you are wherever you are for a purpose. All the struggles and successes are worth it knowing who has your back… God most certainly has yours, and I’ll be cheering on the sidelines all the way up north 😉

I almost bust a gut with the pic of James on the toy bike… LOVE it!
