Today I received a special request from the hubs..…a man’s meal. But not just any man’s meal, a KIWI man’s meal.
What does that look like you might say? Well, I had to do some research but it came down to this.
Lamb & Chutney, beans on GF toast with marmite, & roasted Kumura.
As an American wife this was the most randoms of randoms to me, but hey, after a long ride and a hard swim, a KIWI man wants HE wants.
There you have it, a rather odd WIAW, but we are allowed those.
If a man’s meal looks like this, what does a woman’s meal look like?
Hmm…….chocolate and wine? hehe.
What does a man’s meal look like in your state, country?
Cheers,
LC
p.s.
The lamb was delicious. I’m thinking I should post the recipe. Perhaps?
Well hello, man’s meal! This is quite interesting to me!! LOL!! The “old man’s meal” around here for Ryan would have been steak and potatoes….but now..that he doesn’t eat meat, its tricky! Probably Pizza, maybe Tacos, hmmmmm anything with sweet potato 😉 LOL! This is tough!!
xxoo
haha, pizza and tacos sound about right. Oh and sweet potato, i like that! You must make him some delicous sweet pototo meal Kris.
Mmmm…marmite! I know i’m in the minority with my love for marmite, but there you have it – yum!! 🙂
yea!! another maramite lover. I knew i liked you heather!
I had some tonight on a rice cake with almond butter & nooch – my new obsession. A B12 kick! 🙂
oh i want that now!
A man’s meal here….a garbage plate! a pile of fries with mac salad, baked beans, two burgers (and maybe hot dogs), and other random things (mac n cheese or coleslaw)…..hot sauce and ketchup. Gross!
For me…wine and cheese. yup. that would do it!
garabage plate sounds brutal on the stomach, whoa. I hope it comes with a side of TUMS. haha. Wine and cheese is a staple for me. Love that Lisa!
my meals look random too sometimes, so i don’t judge 😉 hey, you gotta do what you gotta do!
I don’t judge either, cause we all know it tastes good! right?
😉
chocolate and wine? oh yes! and almond butter 🙂
yes, i think any kind of nut butter counts. right? haha
If thats a mans meal than I think I’ll stick to a women’s meal. 🙂 Chocolate and icecream. he he
oh yes, how could i forget ice cream!
Hah, well in my specific apartment I would say it’s a burger, fries & a Colorado-brewed beer. He doesn’t eat red meat often AT ALL, but if he does, that would be it.
and that sounds divine! does he like Elk? I think Colorado men eat elk. Its good!
Not that I know of! Hah, might have to inquire…
Oooh, or maybe fihs and chips. 😛 xyx
haha, i say all of the above!
Hahaha! In New Zealand a man’s meal seems to be PIE for the Kiwi. He is obsessed with pie, everytime we go over there, he gets is HEAPS. 🙂 My girl meal is baked buttercup! 😉 xyx
oh ya! i forgot about that! he’s still on the quest for a perfect pie. Must be perfect to!!!
Well done!
Lindsay, does Kumare taste much different than potatoes? If so…can you host a Kumara give-a-way? LOL. I have never sen them in the States.
PS- For our ladies meal can we add lobster?
haha, i would love to host a giveaway. Kumara’s are so much softer. I love it! I’ll send you one, along with lobster. Lobster and asparagus is one of my FAVORITES!
i think my man could eat the same thing! marmite? I can’t do it, just can’t. Lamb took me forever. But you’re right, adapt:)
Lamb took you forever? Oh we need to make you try it the kiwi way. hehe.
i made a man’s meal last night with a female’s twist…pork tenderloin, but i butterflied and stuffed with goat cheese, walnuts, thyme and shallots… fingerling potatoes…a little flattened – and baked and tossed with malt vinegar and sea salt…. AND cheesecake!!!!!
dang woman! that sounds like my kind of meal. Remind to come to boston and beg you to make that for me.
p.s.
any word for the doc?
um, yes, please do post the recipe! I love lamb! If M had his choice, he’d have no vegetables and potatoes or pasta and meat, and that’s it. haha. woman’s meal – def chocolate and wine or CHEESE and wine! 😉
oh yes! lets not forget the cheese!!! a must!
Well, my husband was out of town yesterday, and left on my own, I pretty much had wine and chocolate for dinner. (And brie and hummus on french bread… but mostly wine and chocolate.)
that sounds perfect! i would opt for some sliced fruit, goat cheese, and crackers too!
A mans meal….hmmm I gotta say that one looks pretty manly!
oh i would agree. Meat=man, right?!
Beans on toast actually sounds really good right now! At least that man meal is kinda healthy. I don’t want to know what an average man meal in the US is. I know it ain’t pretty, and I know it ain’t following a hard bike and swim sesh!
oh i know, not sure what a man would really eat. But it doesn’t inlcude veggies. haha.
Yum, lamb…. yes, please post the recipe! 🙂
Looks about right to me!
and you would know. Does viper like spaghetti and toast instead?
yeah, Viper loves his “sgettis” as we call them. Or a spaghetti and cheese toasted sandwich which, for some weird reason, is called a “jaffle” in Australia. Weird.
Chocolate and wine sounds pretty darn good! 🙂 Oh marmite, I keep hearign about that and I have no idea what kumura is. 🙂 Whatever it is though, it looks delicious. 🙂 You don’t evne want to see Andrew’s idea of a man’s meal. ha!
marmite is a british/new zealand/aussie thing. concentrated yeast extract with b vitamins. its very salty! my husband and all kiwis adore it with toast or on potatoes. I finally like it, but it took a while . haha.
kumura is an amazing type of squash/sweet potato. so good!
beans ON toast you say??! must try that!
its not bad! i added to tobasco sauce too. Its the texas girl in me. haha.
I don’t know what makes a “mans meal” but I can tell you that I’ve eaten baked beans on toast. Once. I was camping and all I had to eat was a can of beans and bread. That was breakfast.
I’ll never eat it again. 😉
haha, i don’t think i would want it again either. But lamb, i know you like lamb!
I’ve never understood the fascination with beans on toast. Truly. Seen it in action plenty, but I don’t get it… the kumara, meanwhile, I’ll take 3 servings of. 😀
agreed! in fact, i think i have had 3 today!
p.s.
SO SO GOOD to hear from you!
Lamb and chutney sounds delicious! I’ve never tried kumura…what’s it taste like? Maybe I need to just fly to NZ to find out? 😉
I claim two states, which means two man’s meals! Here we go…
California: A huge fish burrito stuffed with tons of avocado, and topped with a citrus salsa (OR a Big Mac, since California is where Mickey D’s got started)
Idaho: 32 oz. steak with more mashed potatoes than you can imagine, and a huge slice of huckleberry pie. 🙂
haha, and look how different they are! i’d go for the california meal anyday!
p.s.
Yes, fly down to NZ> i’ll feed you kumura. Its a cross between a squash and sweet potato. YUM!
I just got lamb today- hooray! (That rhymes) Hehe. 😛
you did? yea!! marinate it in a chutney with balsalmic vinegar and fresh mango. So good!
Hah! I have to admit that man meal sounds pretty good. I don’t know about the marmite, I’ve never tried it so maybe I’d like it! My husband’s ideal meal would be a big steak and mashed potatoes hands down!
And my woman’s meal? Most certainly would involve shrimp and angel hair pasta with a good piece of chocolate cake. 🙂
Meg that sounds perfect! i haven’t had shrimp and angel hair pasta in years. Now i want some! with wine of course!
Tim and I just had a discussion about what his favorite Man Meal is. He’s so predictable: steak and baked potato.
steak and potatoes, so manly indeed! But it makes them happy, right? Where’s the vegetable in there again? haha.
Lamb? like the kind that followed Mary to school one day? 😉 I’m all over beans and toast- we called that orphan meal. annd what is Kumura? like squash? or potato-like? Man’s meal that is Canadian? No idea to be honest! But I’m with you that woman’s meal is wine, chocolate, or some kind of yummy to-die-for dessert! 🙂
you need to try some good lamb! you’d like it. I’m not even a big meat eater but i LOVE lamb. and kumura is a cross between a squash between sweet potato. Its divine!
lol i dont even understand half of whats going on on that plate!
i don’t either, but it was delicious and it worked. haha.
You are adventurous in your cooking and such a good wife for making an authentic Kiwi man’s meal! It does look quite good. Does that make me a man?
not at all, just makes you adventurous! which i love Jen!
I love beans on toast!!! So warm and comforting!! HAHA hmm.. a man’s meal in Malaysia would involve a massive amount of rice, chicken curry, a pile of veggies, maybe a chilli paste hard boiled egg. Oh and to finish off, Ais kacang (shaved ice with lots of syrup, creamed corn, sweetened red bean paste & jellies) 🙂
vien, that sounds awesome! i’m all about the curry and eggs. And kacang? Sounds even better!
LOVE how you take care of your man! What a woman! 🙂
My husband’s FAVORITE meal (that I make) is what we call “Jess” chicken – I make him chicken cutlets coated in corn flake crumbs mixed with parmesan cheese and other herbs and spices (cayenne, he likes spice!) and then bake it in the oven until crispy. He loves this chicken SO MUCH, hence the name. It’s easy and it’s “my” meal that I love to make him – with mashed potatoes and broccoli, his two favorite sides, of course. His favorite overall meal though? Filet mignon on the grill with roasted asparagus and salad. Happens to be one of our “date night in” specials – that man makes a KILLER filet, perfectly seasoned and cooked! 🙂
oh man Jess! that sounds awesome! i might have to try it while we’re here in honor of YOU TWO! yummmmm!
Yes post the recipe!!! I love lamb and definitely don’t get it enough… Like maybe once a year? Def need it more often.
we need to change that! its such a good meat. Good source of iron for you preggers. hehe.
I think you should DEFINITELY post the recipe! Like I said before, I’ve been looking for some good lamb to buy and would love a recipe to try out when I get some. And what in the world is kumura???
ok, will do! you’ll like it with the mango and chili chutney.
Beans on toast, I never would’ve thought of that but it sounds kind of good!
My ideal meal would be a big salad with all the best veggies, followed up by ice cream. 🙂
perfect! a womans meal always saves room for dessert. haha.
oh gawd i have to go to the bathroom just looking at this
haha, thats what i thought. He’s got a gut of steel!
I think this looks delicious!!! A man’s meal in our house is red meat and potatoes, all the way! Or a pizza drowning in meat and cheese, hehehehe 😉
we have such similar men. Meat and potatoes. Hearty and delicious. I’d say a nice big hamburger is runner up, eh? with marmite of course.
hmmm… my man’s meals look like this woman’s meals – roasted veg & lean protein. luckily my man adapts his diet to mine! 🙂 although my man’s meals consist of burritos & pizza when this woman isn’t with him! 🙂
meat and vegetables, i like it! and it must have a nice topping too. Like your cashew cheese sauce!
I like the woman’s meal, chocolate and wine <3
Happy Wednesday! xoxo
thats why i love you. Wine and chocolate would be our date! hehe
And I thought I put random meals together…This one tops the cake! As long as it fueled him up after that ride, then that’s all that matters. How’s that wine and chocolate? Now I have wine on the mind…xoxo
i think we are the queen of random here, eh? But i know you can relate. Hope youre putting your feet up with some wine now. hehe.
What is kumura? yes, this is random but I would still try it! I always like trying new food.
kumura is my new obession here. Its like a sweet potato and a squash combined. YUM!
I love learning about meals through other cultures! It may seem odd to me, but my chia seeds freak Tony out and we are from the same country! Tonight’s man meal was meatless chili and cornbread…although they may have been the gal’s meal, but the men ate it too!
thats the best way to learn to me! Tony doesn’t like chia? haha, too funny. and now i am craving some cornbread and chili. Ahhh, sarena. I need to be at your house now!
Looks good to this lady, too! I love beans, they’re so amazing on toast — sometimes I’ll put honey on top of it all – divine stuff!
okay that sounds so good to me! great tip lauren.
Forgot to say, I’d love to see the recipe…
I’m sure ours would include meatloaf LOL, but your “man meal” looks yummy.
Chocolate and wine sound delightful too.
oh that is for sure another man’s meal. I grew up with 3 brothers and I swear we had that 3x a week. I am suprised i still eat meat. haha.
Looks good to me. If you want to post the recipe, post the recipe! I still like reading meat recipes to get new flavour ideas 🙂
An Aussie man’s meal is a huge place of (preferably BBQ) meat and chips or potato. Or a pie. Ick. Veggies are for chicks apparently. I’d say a woman’s meal is dessert- the best part 😉
you can easily use this recipe with meatless meat too! its a mango chili chutney. Delicious.
I wish I had a man in my life so I could cook for him 🙂
Until then, more chocolate for me
well you will! With your cooking skills, its bound to happen soon! for now, enjoy that chocolate all to yourself. hehe
We are always allowed our “odd” meals as long as they’re tasty and healthy 😉 Mine would be wine and pizza!
agreed! and in this blog world, no meal is really odd. Thank goodness! wine and pizza is up there with mine too. Can’t wait to share that with you some day!
haha! love this. a woman’s meal would most definitely include chocolate for me! i think anyway that i can incorporate that simple ingredient is sure to bring a smile to my face 🙂 ha! great job on the man’s meal! sounds like it was a success 🙂
i might have to throw in some wine for me. Can’t go wrong with those two, right? How are you recovering these days?
