I’m not sure if you are sick of my videos or not, but guess what? You get another one today. I tend to ramble though. Maybe I just like talking to myself. But who doesn’t these days, eh?
Let’s do it in the form of WIAW, even though it’s almost Thursday in the states and almost Friday here. But remember, I’ve lost track of time.
Thanks Jen for hosting, feel better soon!
Anyway, here’s a little look at a few Gluten Free goodies we’ve been stocking up on here in New Zealand, minus the MILO of course. That is only wheat free. Nothing too special, just a few training foods we use while on a budget. And yes, wine is in the budget!
Remember that whole chicken I showed you?
Well we cooked it up nice and tasty! I used garlic, balsamic glaze, olive oil, lemon juice, and some paprika. Oh and I stuffed the chicken with a few chopped kumura’s (NZ version of sweet potato) before roasting.
And then there was Burger Fuel……
I’m pretty sure that half the reason we are here in NZ is for Burger Fuel. We got hooked on it back in 2009 when a friend of ours took us there post Ironman New Zealand.
Why the Cotter obsession? Because it’s Gluten Free done right!
All their burgers are 100% pure New Zealand beef and come with the best gluten free bread I’ve ever tasted! They also have Vegan burgers (like pumpkin chickpea or kumura and mushroom) and Chicken burgers. So much flavor in each one. I’d have to say I like the bastard flavor (can I say that on here?). Hubs goes for the Burner. Check out their menu for all the fun flavors!
Oh and they even have gourmet mini burgers. Janetha, did you hear that? MINI!!
This is one happy Kiwi!
Well, that’s it for our little GF tour: Kiwi addition. I’ll keep you posted on anymore finds. I know, your excited aren’t you!? (enter sarcasm…..)
Any good Gluten Free Finds lately?
Cheers,
LC
p.s.
Giveaways will be this weekend or early next week. Whenever I get my timing right!
GF burger buns? Dude, I need to move! I want to experience this. The gf bread in your video looks delicious too. I wish we had more options in California.
you do! dang is right and its UNREAL its so good. Want me to ship one back? hehe.
We love Burger Fuel! We don’t eat there often but it’s a great to know it’s there when we really want a good burger. 🙂
yes indeed! Have you tried their vegan yet?
Seems like a lot of Kraft products?? Are they big over there?
haha, yes Kraft is big here. But you know whats funny, the kraft brand in australia and NZ use mainly preservative free ingredients. I LIKE THAT!
do they put vegemite on their burgers – if so do NOT bring them here – otherwise those look and sound awesome!!! i do love me a good burger
haha, they do if you want it. Its good. It will grow on you, trust me. Okay you won’t I will have to make you special cheese/marmite sandwich to try.
p.s.
I miss you. Really do.
ugh if you love me you won’t make me eat that!
i miss you too, we need to see each other more when you guys move back…for REALS
Hey there Lindsay!
I was just doing some research on Matt Dixon and bumped into a photo of the hubs there. Hope you are doing well! Enjoying life below the equator?
Miss you. Hope you are doing well! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you both!
oh small world! yes, thats james’ coach. Are you working with him? He’s good! How are you? I miss catching up on you. Will have to do that ASAP! Hugs from NZ!
I certainly do not tire of your vlogs Linsay, keep em coming please 🙂 There are so many different options for veggie burgers…I love that! I do eat meat now, but if there was a place like that near me, well I would feel inclined to go quite often
their meat is quite fresh so its good for those of us who don’t eat a lot of meat but still need our IRON. right?! You’d like it. A good hearty yet nourishing burger! Wish we could go together and make it a burger date.
Oh Lindsay, you are a talent in the kitchen! Such creative, colorful dishes!
oh you are too kind to me, you know that right? I will cook for you anyday! As long as I get a hug.
Pumpkin chickpea burger?! I could go for one of those!
i know, great combo! We need more of these in the states.
Love your videos!!! Yes, for the most part I am gluten free I do occasionally eat it and my belly always feel so uncomfortably full! YUK!!!!!!
i know, the gluten bug. haha. Hope you ring in a fabulous new years with your beautiful family!
i should hop a plane just to get in on the tiny action 😉 and to see you, of course.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I’ll take you on a blend date here in NZ. Mini burgers, mini fries, mini milk shakes. It will be a mini vacation for you! hehe. K?
I could NEVER get sick of your videos! You are so sweet on them and I love your accent so much!! 😀
And those mini burgers are so darn cute! I want one!
Hope you and the Hubs had an amazing Christmas Linds! <3
I have an accent? hehe, too funny. I bet you would love these vegan burgers Emma! REally wish I could teleport you over!
Oh friend, I love your videos. I feel like I’m right there with you. Let’s have some instant coffee. ha ha! I wish I knew more about the whole gluten free stuff. I’m so oblivious. And… that chicken that you made….. just delicious! Who would have thought of stuffing chicken with squash? Brilliant. I really need some stinking cooking lessons from you. And…. what camera do you shoot your videos with? The quality is so good! 🙂 (Sorry- LONG comment.)
no i need lessons from you! CHIAMAMA!! I wish you were here with me, sippin on some instant coffee. Actually, bring me the real stuff please. haha.
Burger Fuel!!! Love their vegan burger, too good! Are you guys going down to Queenstown this trip? Ferg Burger down there is also kick ass.
I must say the amount of gluten free goodies available in NZ is pretty awesome these days… only bested by the ones in Aussie (HINT).
oh yes, we are so going to Queenstown in January! Can’t wait to try this. Or maybe I should just fly to Gold Coast instead??
😉
i love your videos! that burger place looks fabulous!
oh good! You never know who is really watching them anyway. haha. Cheers to a new year friend!
That burger joint sounds perfect! I wish we had a good one closer to us that was good for both of our diets! Your eats look delicious!
Oh I know! Tony would LOVE This place and so would you. I’d love to get the franchise in the states! Ya know? We need it!
You home yet?
I vowed to wait to try vegemite/marmite until I dated an Australian… so if you know any? =)
I haven’t discovered any new GF products, but I did finally try baking! I think chocolate chip cookies are next on my list!
Oh i saw! yea for Pamela’s!! She’s got such a good mix, eh?
Isn’t it the greatest fun to discover all the products a new land has to offer? Especially when you find so many yummy things that suit you! 🙂
yes! i could spend hours at different markets, just exploring. Its always fun!
KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING….I feel like we are hanging out in real life because I talk to you to when I am watching the video;) I want to go to Burger’s Fuel with you!!! GF WAHOO!!
YES!! I want you to come too! I think this the the GF Kiwi version of In and OUt burgers. Plus they have amazing milkshakes! Can i bribe you to come?
🙂
I for one am a huge fan of your videos… love to see you in action! Those burgers sound TO DIE FOR! So happy you have found a seeming gluten-free mecca of sorts down there!!!
oh Christin, this joint needs to be in Austin. It’s so our style! Maybe we can start a franchise and make it happen. And of course there will be marmite burgers!
I may have just drooled all over my keyboard. That looks SOOO good.
I love a good burger, I just don’t eat them often. Halfway because I am picky and it has to be superawesome and another reason is the whole bun thing. I am not a sans-bun kind of gal.
I had one at a new place in Austin, the bun was ok, the burger didn’t taste fresh enough. BOO.
oh which place in Austin? I know that Hopp Doddy’s has a good GF burger. I have yet to go but thats what the hubs says. I am picky too, you gotta be!
😉
I havent been to HopDoddy yet, been wanting to. We don’t eat in that area often enough.
The place we went to was In the Bunz. They had a great varied menu with GF options. But I didn’t think their meat was that good and I don’t believe their sweet potato fries were GF even though I was told they were (think they had some sort of coating).
that burger looks and sounds divine! please tell hubs that he is no longer my favorite coach – he ignores me, and it makes me a sad panda!
oh he better make it up to you!
That is one good looking burger!
all it needs is a good GF beer, right?
I’m sitting in WI totally jealous of you right now. I want a burger! I want a chicken roasted with fancy-pants NZ sweet potatoes!
and I bet I could find you a good KIWI man too. Youre on holiday, come on down. It’s warmer too!
I’m just flat out jealous!!! So glad you are enjoying the eatings there so much!
oh i know! perfect post ride burger! Seriously, worth a plane ride!! Get on!
I love your videos. 🙂 this one is fun, I am always so intrigued by foods in other countries – I love the packaging, and… it is usually better?? 😉 I will try anything once, I would totally try that cheesybite.
and wine is ALWAYS in the budget, of course.
you and me both! I try anything and everything once. And that cheesy vegemite is not tht great but to be honest, i keep trying it more on things to see if it will grow on me. haha.
That’s awesome they have options for you at that burger place, I would be all over that! I haven’t had a real deal burger (on a roll) in YEARS, which makes me sad. I love beef but usually can’t do the rolls when out to eat.
it was the first time in A LONG time that i had one too! I am usually the meat and veggie burger when ordering GF. So this was a nice treat. And GOOD quality meat too!
wow, that gluten free bun looks unreal! it’s hard to find “regular” buns that look that fluffy! i rarely get burger hankerings but j has a CONSTANT burger craving so we go to a place in the SLO area where he can get his burger fix and i can get a tri-tip or chicken salad … still his burger bun is nowhere near as tasty looking as yours! 🙂
it is unreal. Fluffy soft goodness. Where in SLO do you go? I’ll have to tell the hubs for when he goes for wildflower.
I think your videos are adorable 🙂
I would travel to NZ just for a kumara/mushroom burger. What is it about the UK that it seems to be the only ‘Western culture’ country that completely ignores GF/vegan eating outside of London and Brighton. Grr.
xxx
I would welcome you here in a heart beat! Burger fuel vegan date! Plus then you could enjoy some warm running!
is the beetroot on the burger like slices of pickled beets? and slices of raw mango? so intrigued.
its not pickled but it is sliced and DELICIOUS! They use beetroot on everything here. I’m a fan!!
Luckyyy! I’m lovin’ learning about all the food over there. Keep it up, friend, and have a blessed New Year!
girl i need to ship you some GF goodies. Or rather, just come here. I’ll get the lamb roast ready!
LOVE your videos! They never get old 🙂 We get to see your beautiful face!! And those burgers look DIVINE!!!
oh good. I get sick of myself so i totally understand! haha. Happy running friend!
Yum that sounds really good! And gotta love anything “mini”…somehow it can make things taste better haha.
i figured two mini burgers are more fun than one big one, right? Plus they are just CUTE!
A pumpkin chickpea burger? That sounds amazing!!
i know, thats next up for me to try! I will have to take more pictures!
I’m glad I don’t have to worry about gluten-free products. It’s got to be tricking trying to eat right.
oh its not too bad. You get very creative, which I like! but it can be overwhelming at first.
I love all the gluten free goodness down there!! If only more places up here were like that. I mean, it is getting better, but it looks like NZ has the US beat out!
I guess it’s not a gluten free find, but I made these chocolate covered almonds with crushed peppermint that were the hit of all the xmas parties that I went to. No one would have realized that they were indeed gluten free except the gluten free friends I made them for!
NZ has a higher number of Celiacs so they have to accommodate. I like that! And your recipe sounds perfect! Youre such a good friend.
You know Keith and I love Nut Thins and now they have a new flavor…pepper jack! It is really good!! 🙂
oh man, i am trying that when i get back! they have a TON of different rice cracker brands here. Just got hooked on sweet chili pepper flavor. They are like pop chips, once you pop you can’t stop! I need to bring you this peanut butter too. SO GOOD! 🙂
love the video 🙂 and so glad that you found some good gluten free bread!!!
HUGS
its a rare find, isn’t it? And this bread is fermented a bit too with buckwheat groats. Ohh i am in heaven!
MMM you just gave me an idea of what to do with some opened pumpkin! And wine is always a staple in my house too 😉
yes, you could so recreate this! DO IT! and post the recipe so i can learn from you….please?
That menu looks amazing! And your chicken does too mmm
The only new food I’ve tried recently was kabocha squash, guess that’s considered gluten free haha 😉 It was beyond tasty, now I know why the blog world is so crazy for them!
I love that squash. Its so savory, yes? Although it is a pain to cut! haha. Need more muscle strength.
none here!
new finds I mean.
we are all living vicariously 🙂
i will have to bring some GF goodies back for you and tornado!
Mmm, Burger Fuel sounds delicious – even the vegan option!
i know, that is going to be my next pick! the vegan one. I’ll report back. 🙂
I think it’s impossible to tire of your vlogs, Lindsay. 😉 Keep ’em coming!
The kitchen tour was so much fun–I love exploring international food products when I travel, and tonight I was able to do it from my couch, thanks to you! 😉 Cheesy Vegemite sounds like quite the creation. I’d be willing to try it though. Oh, and when I come visit you, a trip to Burger Fuel would be a real treat. 🙂 <3
oh goodie! couch tours are the best, right? Burger fuel dates await!! Now just get on that plane.
xoxo
that menu sounds so good! im so impressed with their variety of vegetarian burgers…even though I eat meat… any chance they want to start a franchise in Dallas? I’d visit for sure
we are trying to get them to start one in TX!! How cool would that be!?! I think we’d be there daily. haha.
Ah, I love the videos!! My favorite part…”I don’t like that” : ) in reference to the vegemite or whatever. Ive never heard of marmite until your blog btw. Happy eating : )
<3
its probably the ONE thing i don’t like. haha. Really, taste like bad velveeta and marmite. ICK!
You are up late you party animal.
😉
