Well, Texas is starting to semi feel like that FALL. Which means cooler mornings. Which means I take my boot camp class outdoors for more than half the time. Oh they love me! Haha. Really though, this time of year I not only focus on FUNCTIONAL fitness class formats, but ones that switch your mindset from “I must workout for this long” to “oh wow, this is challenging but fun!”
Get the picture?
Let’s break down fitness into DO-ABLE segments. Let’s create a FUN environment. Let’s just get outside and play!! Hey, I’m Corny Cotter, I’m allowed to over exaggerate my excitement!
Fitness in 5 minutes. That’s where we begin. We progress from there. If you can do it all, great! If you can do only half, that’s fine. The point is to start and move and use YOUR surroundings.
Ready, set, go!
Remember to focus on form and function –> 5 minutes at a time.
Remember to get creative with your “traveling” WOD. Start somewhere where you can keep your weights, then use the trail or park to travel to your next spot.
And of course, dress appropriately for the weather!
1. Adizero Climaproof Jacket – oh I love this light weight jacket. It’s slim-fit and made with climaproof® material. Perfect for outdoor training, rain and a wind-resistant front panel. plus, it has pockets in the back that zips!
2. Techfit Capri Tights – You can wear these alone or layered under shorts. Specifically designed with compression fit that supports muscles through all kinds of cross trianing and cardio. Super comfy too of course. I got xs for more compression.
Thank you for Adidas for allowing me to be a fashionista this month!

Do you break down workouts to make it more do-able? If not, you should! It works great.

Always so inspiring! 🙂 great post!
you are inspiring jess! hope all is well
YES! I am all about fast fitness these days and functional work really is the key to great fitness!
Love that jacket! And love this kick butt speedy workout! I wish I read this before I hit the hotel gym, it would have been perfect!
Had to break up my run Tuesday into 2 sessions . . . . it was only 7 miles, but times wasn’t on my side
that works for me!
Very cool & I LOVE seeing you in those pics looking so cute!!!!!!!!!!
and i love seeing YOU
Aside from the great workout, check out your arm muscles!!
You make those clothes look GOOD!
ahh you are kind. Mwah!
I’m all about breaking things down into smaller chunks to make them seem more doable, but I can’t say I’ve ever done it with fitness! I do know that I sometimes need to motivate myself to get out the door by saying that “I only need to do 10 minutes” 😉
I’m just going to come over and shop in your closet, okay?
yep, bring the sugar free muffins
Love this workout and as I said will definitely try it soon. I’ve been getting more into doing circuits again at least once a week. I love the variety and fast paced nature of them.
Love your outfit too! You make me want to shop more for new workout clothes 😉
let me know how it goes!
Corny Cotter is BACK??? Sometimes when life is crazy, it’s important to bring back to the corniness and laugh at it too…XOXO
I love short burst of high intensity!! I will give this workout a try with my own boot camp class on Monday- thanks!!
I’m a gym rat so I usually like to be at the gym for several hours. But there are days when I have early meetings and cannot stay long. I usually cut my workouts in half but I love this option too.
You are too freaking adorable! And smart. And fit. So basically the whole package. 😉
I love doing short exercises on days when I feel like I don’t have time for a workout. Something is always better than nothing!!
this is a great idea esp when im not feeling so pumped up about exercise.
I love long workouts butI also really like stuff like this for those time when I just need to move but don’t have a lot of time.
i knew you’d approve!
I love this workout! And how cute are those clothes?!
I love the idea of breaking it down into smaller segments. It makes it feel so much more doable to me. And love the outfit and that first pic of you!!
I always break workouts! Esp those mentally challenging looooong training runs, bikes, swims into smaller “bite sized” chunks. I celebrate the completion of each chunk along the way and only focus on the chunk at hand (:
Workouts should be fun! And I bet your boot camps are!
Really like those addidas goodies! I always forget about addidas when I am looking out for workout gear!
I love you for posting this! Sometimes I feel guilty for not squeezing in a full 45 minute workout – but some days become so hectic!!! Now thanks to you – no more guilt! 🙂
Love it! I think one of the things I love about CrossFit is that it’s broken up. We warm up on our own, warm up as a group, do our strength focus, and then do the WOD. It’s broken up in segments which helps keep things interesting.
Love this idea! Like that you create some mini challenges that you can check them off as you go!
I love breaking up my workouts/runs into smaller chunks even in my head- just helps it mentally be less daunting sometimes. I sit all day at work in my office and I’ve found getting up once in a while and even just walking out to the mailbox or the car or something helps. Few minutes of being active before going back to sitting!
i like that idea!!
Sometimes I think of my runs in terms of groupings of the miles – does that count 😉 I do like intervals that are done in chunks like that set up though and give them to clients. They feel less overwhelming.
oh i did that too! or in 10 minute segments
I’m so glad you’re finally getting a dose of fall! And I’m sure your clients love that you go outside–I know I would. Great approach to getting it done, too.
Love that! Great idea to think of it in segments!
Pinning this! I like to break up workouts like this occasionally and come to think of it, I actually like it so I don’t know why I don’t do it like that more often! 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
Love functional fitness! It is one of my favorite ways to train 🙂
I think “Corny Cotter” works great for the season 😉 I definitely like to mentally break workout down–I think it is the circuit training past in me.
These are exactly the types of workouts I’ll be looking for once the babies are born and I get the all clear from the doctor to workout again. My time will definitely be limited, but I don’t want to neglect my health, so this will work out perfectly for me.
I’m a total nut job and love spending a couple of hours in the gym… but sometimes time doesn’t permit it. Workouts like these are a great one to have – especially when I’m traveling!
I’m Love these manageable sets of this workout (not that I wouldn’t be huffing and puffing like crazy)!!
I know if I’m ever in houston I am coming to one of your classes!
I love bootcamp style workouts!! I totally miss the class I used to go at the lake in Zurich. So kick ass but with the best view!
I’m starting one of those 5-minute plank challenges where you work up to a 5 minute plank! That’ll be my mini-bursts of exercise throughout the day!
Those workout clothes are super cute!
Love how you broke this down into 5 minute sections – it makes it seem much more manageable! I’d often do the same thing with my students when it came to reading extended texts – one chunk at a time!
This will inspire my workout at the gym today, it’s pinned and ready to go!
LOVE the looks of this workout with short bursts. That is definitely one of my favorite ways to workout. Although here in Ohio we’re moving into the workout INSIDE season, not the other way around. 😉
you can come visit me for winter!
I love this! You don’t neeeeeed to complete an hour long workout to have a good workout! Pinning 🙂
we need to workout together! hehe loved your WOD today too!
Man alive. Back in the day when I was a bodybuilder, I would break up my workouts (mostly the classic cardio in the morning, weights and plyos in the afternoon). But I agree with what I’ll call “short bursts”, as this does help someone focus on form, rather than being concerned with time and getting it done and over with.
how did i not know you were a bodybuilder before?!
I haven’t touched on that part of my life in a long time! I miss the intensity, for sure. <3
Love this quick workout!
Love the jacket!
This is interesting, as i was just discussing this with steve, how I need to make sure that I get up every hour while I am at home to get away from the computer. He suggested I do some of my functional exercise….and that is what you posted on the next day! Good idea, and now no one has an excuse!
