Fill the Bucket

by Lindsay Cotter · 07/06/2012

You’ve seen this, right?

Capture2

It’s the #fitfluential #fitbucketlist. A lot of Fitfluential Ambassadors have started their own board on Pinterest. It’s pretty cool. You can see A LOT of them HERE.

Fitfluential shares their purpose behind in one paragraph…

We’ve learned that visual inspiration goes a long way toward achieving concrete goals, and that it helps to DREAM BIG. To that end, many of our Ambassadors have started creating #FitnessBucketList boards on Pinterest and they are awesomely fun to scroll through!

Yep, a pinterest board filled of fitness DREAMS, GOALS, AMBITIONS, and more! Holy Moly how cool is that?

As I started scrolling through them, I found myself pondering my own BUCKET LIST and started to repin several onto my own.

And then it hit me.

As much as I want to do all these things, there is only one that I want NOW!

To RECLAIM Balance, Wellness, and Vitality. To me, that’s Fitness for the BODY and SOUL.

But How? When? Where?

I think it all starts with slowing down the process. Focusing on what your body is learning, and going with it.

The hubs and I have both been going through some endurance junkie withdrawals. You know, the kind where you want to train like a mad man and sweat like a pig?! ha.

Yet, we are not. Nope, we FILLING our fitbucket with balance..wellness… vitality… and well, just soaking it in. Or at least trying to. 😉

Yoga

hiking

swimming

strength and agility

I’d say those are key components of a good fitbucket, one that makes it stronger, and able to endure.

Inversions such as Pincha Mayurasana (Feathered Peacock Pose) present wonderful opportunities for profound physical and mental transformation, but they’re also rife with obstacles. Begin by simply noticing the obstacles that keep you from going upside down easily. When you acknowledge these blocks, you have something to work with, and a pathway to new possibilities reveals itself. You can nudge things along by cultivating meditative awareness and breaking inversions down into smaller, easier steps. This makes the goal of “perfection” less important; instead, you can work creatively and enjoy the journey, no matter how long it takes. source.

My FITNESS BUCKETLIST will definitely include fun races, new sports, adventure, etc. But in order to do  so, I must fill it first with this…

5f432ddac20a11e19894123138140d8c_7

time on the mat.

Here’s a great article about the benefits of yoga for athletes. It’s a great FRIDAY read.

How are you FILLING your FITBUCKET?

Cheers,

LC

Balance, wellness and vitality! Amen. I love this message, Lindsay! In order to be our strongest physically, we need to be in touch with our bodies first and foremost. That means resting and rebuilding when we’re a bit worn down, and learning how to accept it. This has been my journey over the past few months, and it hasn’t been easy, but it’s been so worth it. I’m so glad you’re filling your days with lots of yoga, hiking and swimming–exercise that’s good for the body AND the SOUL. I really want to start incoporating yoga into the mix again…it’s been too long!

    Huge hugs xoxo <3

fitbucket lists, eh? I’m not a fan of “bucket lists” becuase a bucket list by definition is something I want to do before I die…and frankly, if I’m going to do something I’m not putting it on a list that I have my whole lifetime to complete! If I want to do something, I’m going to make it happen NOW.

I like your idea of “filling my bucket” and living in the moment–that’s very yoga-ish! doing the things that make me happiest and you need now. Not in 15 years. Not in 25 years….NOW. 😉 hehe I’m too impatient for a bucket list.

I completely agree with what you are putting in your fitfluential bucket list! I love this! I’d love to do so many things, but the most important is getting back to my normal healthy self with healing. I just want to understand my body first and then make a more concrete bucket list! I definitely am trying to get more into yoga, so I’ve been looking at different classes and will hopefully find a yoga that is right for me.

i think part of the reason i love yoga so much is because it is the one time i feel beautiful through the struggle of holding a pose when my legs are on fire or my balance is wavering. there’s so much to take away through each breath and i’m so glad i started practicing twice weekly. maybe i will extend it to another session but for now it’s hitting the spot. my fitness bucket list contains a 10k race and i just did 5 mi last weekend in 43 mins so i know i can ‘finish’ haha 🙂 i’m pretty pumped about it!

I bet you are both really itching for endurance and sweat! HOWEVER, I must say that your approach and adjusting to this new normal for now is almost (or IS!) harder than the endurance stuff you may be craving. It is HARD to be patient, it is HARD to go for lighter impact things, it is HARD to NOT do the things you want to do, even though you know they are best for you. I commend you for that…and really think you should do a barre class, it is the perfect mix of non-impact and sweatastic-ness that you just might love #nothtatiambiased 🙂

visual inspiration goes a long way toward achieving concrete – Amen! You have to see yourself successful.

I am itching to make a bucket list but nervous about reaching my goals. I need to visualize myself putting an awesome one together. I like the idea of new adventures!

I keep learning the hard way how important those step-back periods are for endurance athletes. You’re so wise! I don’t get to yoga very often, but I never regret it when I do… I really need to build it in regularly.

i think we learn the hard way in order to teach others about the hard way, right? haha. But it humbles us in the long run.

wow, never heard of aqua jogging but it sounds really cool and “holistic” and healthy~haha, I’ll def. try that when I’m pregnant someday. Maybe the stomach will keep me from drowning. (not the best swimmer, though I can kinda swim)

I fill my fitbucket by trying to do just the same, like you. I love to do all kinds of fitness routines and styles. I pretty much enjoy it all, except I don’t swim much. 🙂 Have a beautiful day girlie!
