G’day. Welcome to the first edition of Cotter Confessions. It will probably be the last too. And really, the only reason I am using the word confessions is because it starts with a “C” and goes with Cotter. I could say Cotter Statements, but that’s just boring. Ya know?
So here goes…..
Confession: I panicked a wee bit this week. We had a minor set back in the hubs’ training. And this time, it wasn’t the knee.
And then I remembered this…..
God is good. After a few days of ice, rest, and a high anti-inflammatory diet, looks like all is healed. Phew! Ironman New Zealand is 4 weeks away! I know I’m not racing but it sure feels like I am, emotionally that is. haha.
Confession: I am the bookmarking queen! I bookmark workouts, articles, recipes, etc.

Great article about inflammation by Mark’s Daily Apple
Confession: I might have made this Gluten Free bread just so I could feel a bit “old fashion” and let it cool on the windowsill. I maybe a dork but hey, it’s fun! Recipe to come.
Confession: I have been missing my WIAW posts. Sorry Jen, I’m such a slacker. The food pics have not really added up these days. Here are a few random ones in my camera. And just so you know, all of these are New Zealand made brands or ingredients. I think I’m obsessed. Wait, scratch that. I AM obsessed!
Notice anything about this label? Yes, it actually shows the GLUTEN content.
I’m in GF HEAVEN!
Confession:I am wiped and sore from doing this workout.

The sad thing is I used to teach these kind of workouts and then another spin class on top of that. Now that I am in New Zealand, I have yet to get on a bike or do more than 30 minutes cardio. Oh boy, it’s gonna be a mean wake up call when I get back to TEXAS to teach. haha.
That’s okay… I’ll toughen up soon, right?
You’re turn.
Confess something, anything!
Cheers,
LC
Haha, I’d be *dead* after that workout! 😀
Hope everything is fine with the hubs!
um yes, i was dead. NAP was needed.
That first picture looks gorgeous – I could eat that for breakfast, lunch and dinner and be very happy indeed.
New Zealand sounds like GF heaven…and they don’t get SNOW which is all over the UK now 🙁
xxx
I also meant to say that I’m so happy the injury crisis is sorted. I’m really intrigued by an anti-inflammatory diet. I keep meaning to check out some plans/guidelines for it and then forgetting!
yes, check out the anti-inflammatory diet. it really helps during heavy trianing, racing. Plus i think you’d like it!
Wow! You won’t be seeing Gluten content on US stuff anytime soon…that’s interesting that they include it!
No doubt those muscles will be “tough” as soon as you want them to be – muscle memory, right?? 😉
i know, crazy, right? I like it! I think because Celiac is so prevelant here, they have to put Gluten on a lot. And every restuarant has GF options. Like EVERY ONE! I love it. Plus they don’t use HFCS or DYES. Nice, eh? see….come move here!
Do you have more details on the high anti-inflammatory diet?
sure. We basically up our omega’s and antioxidants. Lots of fish, spices, berries, leafy greens, low sugar, and low dairy (unless its goats milk, etc). I think you might like this article Hill. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/top-6-anti-inflammatory-foods/#axzz1lRFxqJCC
You gotta get vegemite!! 😉 Marmite doesn’t compare. Thats so cool that you’re in NZ. Have you tried Hokey Pokey ice cream?
That workout looks intense!! One day I must do some strength work 🙂
oh we use both for sure! i like vegemite better too. I use marmite more for cooking. And hokey pokey is my husbands FAVORITE candy and ice cream. Wish we had it in the states. SO good!
Goodness that workout look INTENSE! But I like it obviously 🙂 Might be attempting this at the gym later this morning! It doesn’t open until 10 so I am just waiting around right now
I love your confessions too… that is a fabulous reason to bake, how classic of a picture that makes too 🙂 Also, thank you for the quote, it is definitely something that is important to remember!
oh let me know if you try it. Warning, you will not be able to run the next day. haha, i was sore!
Random but I am currently watching “say yes to the dress” and I want to have another wedding just so I can shop for wedding dresses again. And I am not a girly girl or shopper either, but i just loved trying on wedding dresses!
oh do it! haha, jk. But i would do the same. Just go dress shopping for fun!
great quote to remember! as we tend to over stress and panic about things! and glad that the hubs is doing better now! good luck with all that training!!!
and that sounds like a great killer workout 🙂
and about the confession about bookmarking —- we ARE THE SAME WAY! you should see our bookmarks on our computers. we are always saying to each other I bookmarked this and this and this and this and I want to show you…. you can see how we never really sleep as we always seem to doing something haha and get distracted easily at times
xoxo
L&M
man i wish i couuld set my computer up next to yours so i could tag all your bookmarks! hehe. I think we have the same confessions… a lot!
YES let go and let God!! LOVE that, and it’s so true!! I will go into tomorrow’s race with that in mind and trust in His plan! Thank you for that precious reminder friend, and I am so so happy that James’ problem has cleared up! 4 weeks…exciting!!
And WOAH what a workout!! Getting strong and building that butt, right?! Haha love it!!
Have a GREAT weekend! <3
oh awesome! best of luck Emma and report back to me, k? Cheering from NZ
I love bookmarking things too! It’s probably the equivalent for those of us who haven’t done the Pinterest thing. I have multiple folders and everything!
I confess that this weekend I will be watching 0 football and as much hockey as possible. If that makes me a social pariah for 2 days, so be it. After this week I need it!
wanna know another confession? I didn’t even know it was super bowl weekend. The only sports on TV here are rugby, cycling, cricket, and soccer. I like it! so cheers to a football-less weekend. Enjoy your hockey friend.
<3
So glad James is feeling better and back on track. You’re both certainly in this together!
And fun confessions post…Let’s see. I made some protein/power-ish bars (from Jess at BlondePonytail) and although they were for a long run during or post snack, I basically just ate them for lunch crumbled in Greek yogurt w/a banana and some cinnamon…I had about 3 of them. Phew. Good thing I’m running later – here’s hoping vegetables are in my dinner future. 😉
haha, i saw those and trust me, i would have done the same. And i would have hid them from James!
Had to chuckle, I had a big confession to my running buddy this morning. Just funny when I see your blog title of Confession! You know, part of what’s so fun about baking is the nostalgia of some of the items we make. The bread looks yummy. Yay for a speedy anti-inflammatory recovery. I can’t imagine the stress and the “freak out” moments it brings. You may not be racing, but you’ve devoted your life and energy to his racing right now, so of course you’re going to stress out over his issues. And on a side note, I saw my first bottle of kombucha in a store in our teeny tiny little town.
i think we all had confessions this week. Feels good to let it out, yes? hehe. Thanks for listening. Now what was your confession? do tell!
Yikes, sorry about the scare earlier this week, even better to hear things are already on the mend. I agree that supporting an Ironman-in-training can be MORE stressful than the training itself, I have no idea how that is possible, but true!
Confession: I’m sitting in the hotel in California, in my PJs, without having showered or brushed my teeth. Ew..should probably do that before Kirk picks me up for lunch!
ahh haa, love it! i am in my PJ’s too! no shower. Cheers to confessions! And enjoy lunch.
😉
How long are you going to be in New Zealand again? Sorry your husband had a setback…but I’m glad to hear that things brightened up again.
we’ve been here since thanksgiving and leave after Ironman New Zealand which is first weekend of March. Crazy, eh?!
That looks like one crazy, kick a** workout!!!!
um yes, it kicked my a** for sure. haha
Happy Friday to you! (or is it Sat. in NZ?). I loved this post and your confessions. That cereal/grains with yogurt (i’m taking a guess here) looks sooo good. Rest up from your hardcore workout.. no wonder you’re sore!
happy saturday to me!! yes! i keep forgetting too. And today i am finally not sore. phew!
I hope the hubs is feeling better!! I am very interested in the anti-inflammatory diet…where did you find details on that (in the link above?) and what kinds of food did that include?
its basically foods high in antioxidants. I just use my nutrition background for that. Lots of green vegetables, fish, oils, eggs with omegas, berries, and no gluten. Also, we cut back in dairy unless its goats milk. So just super clean.
aww! I hope James is okay and it was a minor thing…I don’t blame you for panicking a bit. Things have gone so smoothly, it’s of course scary to think of a downturn. XOXO
i know, his training pays the bills ya know? haha, but really, it does! you home safe and sound? hope so!
love, love, LOVE the workout. killer.
so glad to hear that your husbands injury was nothing too serious and that he feeling better.
happy friday!
yes, me too! We’re hoping for a strong month to finish up training. fingers crossed! happy friday to you friend. Get some time to yourself. 😉
Whew, I am so glad James is doing better and that his wonderful sherpa took care of him beautifully : )
I too have been slacking on cardio. I am only doing 40 minutes 2x a week and using my P90X leg workout as the 3rd. Technically it’s not cheating because that’s the rotation but I feel like it is! We’ll be in for a tough wake up call together!! :o)
Nicole
well P90x is no joke so i am sure you are a lot fitter than you think! confess away. hehe.
So glad the hubs is ok! I am sure that was stressful, only 4 weeks to go and he will be strong and ready!
Love this confession style post ; )
Happy day to you love! <3
oh thank you Katie. We sure hope so! happy Friday lovely. xoxo
I could confess alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll day.
I shall just say, hmmm, THANK YOU for normalizing for me. for US. always.
oh good. Feels good to confess and feel normal, well most of the time.
😉
I just at 5 of those mini reeses peanut butter cups and could go for many more. Had to laugh at “confessions”. 🙂
Do you cook much with turmeric? I don’t care much for it, but recently read that it’s very anti-inflamatory. This is probably old news for you! Maybe you have some good ideas for cooking with it.
yes, i put tumeric on everything because of that! and cinnamon and ginger. Stock up!! I put tumeric on potatoes, rice, etc. its a great spice.
I think I need to adopt an anti-inflammatory diet… my knee is finally cooling down and I want to keep it that way!! I’m glad the hubs is doing well. Even little things can be a big scare when they arise!
yes, you need to get on one. It will really help with overcoming injuries. And a GF diet helps ease inflammation as well. Email me if you need ideas. Hope you are doing better friend.
Confession: My knee still isn’t doing much better, and it has me so upset I can barely even think straight. And I’ve also eaten way too much today from being so upset =\ And I’m seriously beginning to think that I won’t be able to run again…
And, wow, I’m a horrible blogger… looking at the last blog title of mine. Ha! I’d work on that but I kind of feel it’s a bit pointless =\
oh no, sorry friend. We can definitely relate. Have you been to the specialist yet? I know, its a pain! what about accupuncture? Don’t worry about blogging, it will have its time. Take care of YOU!
In physical therapy for the second time. I did go to acupuncture once before Christmas, but haven’t been back since I started PT. If it didn’t cost so much then I’d for sure go more often.
i’d love to see a “day of eats” with your eats , then the hubs eats to see how you eat the same and different.
I think it also would be helpful because I’m in crisis trying to heal my body with poor digestion + underweight and you seem to be so intelligent on this. If I could hire you to make me a meal plan, you would be my choice for sure. But I can’t, so wishful thinking 🙂
I wish I knew how you managed to exercise so fantastic when underweight. I’m really struggling with a simple walk and just some basic bodyweight stuff 2 or 3 times a week (I’m a fitness idiot, and don’t know how to create an at home plan without equipment. Like I said, I’m lost with a capital “L”).
well he obviously eats a lot more with ironman training, hehe. But other than that we eat about the same. Gluten free for sure! sorry to hear about dilemma. Keep trying to heal with good food and rest. I know its hard.
Dang lady nice workout! Oh, and that bread looks phenomenal… totally can’t wait for the recipe! Hmm confession, I’ve had 5 cups of coffee today and the last one was at 7pm (might be a problem when bedtime comes around!) obsessed.
haha, well at least you’ll get a lot done tonight, right?
Your workouts always pain me. In a good way, haha!
My confession? i’m insanely jealous that you guys get gluten on your nutritional information. Not even kidding. I almost want to write to… whoever is in charge of that… and ask them to change the US charts!
i know!! i think US needs to get on board with this gluten thing. lets’ protest!
Wow! What a killer looking workout!!!!!!
As for confessions…..I have about a million projects that I’ve begun and have yet to finish….whoops! haha
well i am glad you took a break to say hi! love that Gen!
Love NZ food – I miss that tempeh already!
It’s pretty cool how gluten-savvy things are down under, no?
Here’s to a quick-healing hubs 🙂
do you think i could send you the tempeh? will it get past customs? cause i totally would!!
Confession….I’m just as sore as you are! Getting back into a workout routine has been difficult. Like you I used to do lots of exercise in a day and it was no big deal. But my body isn’t used to that level or exercise anymore. Confession: I’ve had lots of cooking fails this week….my taste buds are sad haha. btw sea salt and vinegar chips = amazing combination!
woo, another sore partner!! and cooking fails only make us better, so rock on in that kitchen sarah!
First- I can’t wait to cheer for IMNZ. Second- I wish that Canada would get on board with all those GF goodies. Although that’s asking a lot since we can’t even keep up with the US 😉 Confession…I’ve had almost two litres of coffee today. That’s just over 60 US ounces. And I’m about to go get another…;)
uh i wish US would get on board with the GF products too. or maybe we should just move here?
I love catching up with the Cotter’s! I hope the Hubs continues to be on the mend <3
i love hearing from you! and thank you, yes, prayer does help us in those times. Thankful for being on the mend now. phew!
Can’t wait for that recipe. Looks awesome 🙂
I love all of your eats!
i will share it soon! its too good not too. 😛
my confession is that i’ve been looking forward to my dinner all day: veggies cooked with marmite and topped with a runny egg! can’t wait!
thats my favorite combo!! oh and i sometimes add a little ketchup or tobasco. yes?! 😉
I am so glad that James is all healed up, that would be extremely scary!! You are adorable for putting your bread by the windowsill! That workout made me sweat just reading it, you are hardcore!
i’m still sweating from it. haha, jk. Come share my bread with me. please!
I confess that I just made some cookies. And I’m hiding them away in the pantry so that no one but me will eat them. 😉
i have to hide mine in a veggie bag in the fridge, because no one looks there besides me! hehe.
ooh your food looks so good. and thank you for sharing that antiinflammatory link. very interesting stuff! have a good day girl and i love your confessions!
Marks daily apple has some great articles and recipes. I think you’d like them. Have you been to his site before?
Confession: I changed my entire week, marathon training and all, in anticipation of being up “late” tonight for a basketball game and being too tired to workout tomorrow AM.
Is that a sign of an obsession? I may seek professional health. And I’m STILL hungry. I think I may always be hungry unless I’m not.
haha, no you are just a runner. Runner’s minds think like that. ANd good for hunger, its a healthy sign!
WOW!! This is a HARDCORE workout!! I think I would be laying on the floor most of the time, but I’m up for a good challenge and will rock it out!! Thank you!!!
xxoo
once you ROCK IT, report back. k?
dude…turn that workout into an image so i can pin that bad boy!!! i bookmarked it instead but that’s less fun 🙂
oh dang it, i should have put a picture there. so true!
I think you’re amazing! Never doubt that! I’m glad things are better for James. You made me nervous at first! I can’t believe it’s only 4 weeks away! HHHMMMM confession, I am freaking out a bit with getting myself in order. I felt so accomplished when I finished my studies, but now I have to study for my CFT course and I need to start working on my business site and actually working on my work! UGH, ok, I now feel better. I said it all and then took a deep breath. I have no patience…
i think you are amazing! this is just another transition. I know, tiring isn’t it? haha but its a good one! you’ll be in teh swing things in NO TIME! email me for anything.
Glad that the problem wasn’t knee related. Confession: I don’t have any faith in doctors regarding my heel injury.
doctors can be discouraging. WE’ve been to several the past year, i feel ya. What did they say about the heel? do you have a spur? accupuncture works!
My confession: I have been eating almond butter on a spoon, sprinkled with chocolate covered cacao nibs, every night this week. It’s becoming a (delicious) problem.
i like that problem. i might steal it!
I hope the hus is ok!! GF labels, that’s amazing!!
I’m confessing that I have hardly had time for anything this week. I am praying for a weekend of relaxation! xx
praying for you too! you need a weekend to disconnect!
So glad to hear that the hubs setback was just minor and that he is on the mend. That is great news.
Confession: I slept in a bit this morning and skipped weights and I don’t feel guilty about it one bit. 🙂
good! that means this weekend’s long run will be even better!
Ohh my goodness whatever that bowl full of goodness in the first WIAW picture is looks amazing!! Confession: I had chocolate for breakfast.
that confession needs to be made on a regular basis. I like it!
I confess that it took me being up in the air for 3 hours on a flight to nyc to finally make the time to read and comment on my favorite blogs! love this in-flight wifi. 🙂 let go and let God is the best advice anyone could ever give or receive!
oh i know!!! i love the wi-fii in air for that reason! So much fun to be in the air and talk. yea!! happy NYC DAY!!
I confess that I have been chugging my black coffee on an empty stomach…. which is like belly kryptonite to me! hurts so bad. cant stop the habit! ahh!
save me from myself! 😉 love you almond joy! you’re tougher that tough~!
oh been there. EEK! follow it up with some kombucha, k?
love you.
hehe I’d love to cool bread on a windowsill on a gorgeous summery day. I’m a dork too tho so it only makes sense that I’d love that part of the post the best 😉
Confession? The glass (and a half) of sauv blanc I had last night was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted. Ok, that’s a lie – my lunch yesterday was frickin’ phenomenal too, I guess I just love good food and good wine to pick just one from my eats yesterday 😉
cool crisp sauv… ahh i can just taste it now and its only 8am here. haha. Love it!
Glad the hubs is back on track!
I’ve been stalking Maria for a few months now (I mean, I’ve been following her…but I’ll admit, it may resemble stalking!). She posts tons of stuff on facebook, and I also bought all of her books…
oh i need, i mean want, her books too! any favorites? I’ll be a stalker with ya!
Dang I am confessing that your workout looks like a BALL BUSTER and there’s no WAY I could do that!!! I am sore from 2×12 sets of lunges! You’re one tough cookie Miss Cotter! I hope James’ “niggle” (or whatever his training scare was) is all healed up! 4 WEEKS crazy stuff! Texas misses you guys.
ya but i can only run 30 minutes these days, so we’re tied, right? hehe. I miss you! and good luck at your next race… this weekend?? safe travels.
That yogurty swirly breakfast bowl looks amazing!
swirls make everything better, right?
My confession: I haven’t felt the desire to run this week =( It makes me so sad b/c the last few weeks were awesome weeks. But I just don’t want to push myself this week.
Hope your hubby heals quickly and it was just a little scare =)
i think its the mental road block time for you. Totally normal. Rest up that mind. You got this!
Confessions? Just ate half a pack of peanut M&Ms that I had hidden for Christmas and only just found…
And now I’m off for sushi with a friend. Better get that ride and swim in. Oh -and your workout is a KILLER!
peanut m&m’s are worth hiding! so enjoy! and i’ll annoy you on FB later to make sure you get that ride in. tee hee.
confession – i didnt run yesterday, instead i ate crab rangoons and sushi 🙂
well if it involved having to crack open shell, thats a workout, right?
😉
Yowzers on the workout, woman. Rock on!
As for my confessions, I could list a million, as I have issues. But let’s go with the fact that I’m commenting on your blog while at work because even though I have things I could be doing, I’m bored and distracted and vying for “bitter employee of the month” award.
Also, I used an ATM for only the second time in my life yesterday. Go me!
i love being a distraction! Feed that bitterness. haha. And one other confession that i didn’t post that i think you might appreciate … well at least i hope. we’ve been obsessed with this show in NZ. It makes me feel quite normal. haha.
http://www.channel4embarrassingillnesses.com/episodes/episode-guides/embarrassing-bodies-series-4/
Now, if that doesn’t keep you entertained I don’t know what will.
p.s.
ATM progress, nice!
Confession, it’s 11am on a Thursday and I haven’t even gotten out of bed yet except to make a cup of coffee. In my defense I’m a little sick (oh and I’m a college student…. that counts for something right?).
you are allowed to do whatever you’d like. I am in my pj’s too, but it is only 8am here. hehe.
I have been reading your blog posts, just havent had time to respond!!!
Well I was scheduled to run 4.5 miles today(training for a half Im running in April) but only did 2 and I walked almost 3/4 of it. My legs were tight, were starting to get pains. I dont want an injury so I took it easy today.
Today is three years since my dad died…its a lonely hard day.
you will do great! run/walk it. And i am so glad you commented. Praying for you today and your family. HUGS!
That workout LOOKS killer! Here’s a CONFESSION that is beyond random: I’ve never seen the movie the “Notebook”. My high-school client told me I was weird, when I confessed that. HA! Guess I should watch it and have a box of tissues nearby. MISS YOU! xoxo
okay, so don’t see it. I think its cheesy. Unless you like the guy in it. Ryan Gosling? ha! anyway, i owe you an email. ahhh, soon friend, soon!
