Come on, you’ve heard that phrase before. Right? I grew up on it. My mom would always yell say it to me.
“Whoa Nelly Lindsay……”
What does that mean? Why Whoa Nelly? I’ll tell you.
Apparently it’s an equestrian phrase meaning: “Hold your horses!” Or better yet: “Wait a minute! This is a lot of work! Let’s slow down and take things a little at a time”
Well today I gave the hubs a Whoa Nelly! He’s started to pack for his next couple weeks of racing and I thought, whoa…didn’t you just race that race? Nope, that was last year. Again, I thought, whoa…..you mean a year has already gone by? You mean we’re already half way through this year?
WHOA NELLY!
You mean my nieces and nephews are already 1, 3, and 5 years old?
Weren’t they just born yesterday?
You mean the hubs and I both getting closer to 30?
We still look cool, right?
You mean we haven’t “gotten it all together” yet?
Whoa Nelly…..Uh, no….far from it. But you gotta just smile and roll with it, right?
You mean it’s already another WIAW?t
Jen, I think we had the same day. Empty plates but happy bellies!
Whoa Nelly….the day slipped by but I managed a few pics.
I was half way through this bowl before I realized I needed to take a picture.
At least I saved the topping, right?
And dinner tonight?? Well another whoa Nelly (just hold your horses). I’m not sure what to make quite yet.
to be determined……..
Are you having a whoa nelly day? A whoa nelly year? I hate to say it, but its true. The older I get, the more time just starts to fly by…….way too fast.
I need a moment to breathe, to smile, to cherish, to enjoy.
And so I will.
Cheers to the here and now!
LC
oh I have missed you too! I hope you are all better now. Whoa Nelly is the theme of our lives, right?:) Lindsay ________________________________
Oh how I have missed your posts! Blog's looking good and I TOTALLY know what you mean about Whoa Nelly – my life is Whoa Nelly – or was until I got sidelined with a stupid chest infection. Maybe that's why? Don't answer it. Your food looks delicious and don't even try to get it together you and James look so happy – that IS getting it together girl!
ahh, so true my dear. so true. Track workouts will never go by fast enough. haha. The wraps have sauteed mushroom, zucchini, tomato, salmon and eggs. MY FAVORITE! Lindsay ________________________________
oh you have to start using that phrase, then see how people react. Love it! Life's too short NOT to use the phrase, haha. Lindsay ________________________________
oh good! hope your finals went well! Lindsay ________________________________
I feel like the last 4 years are " whoa nelly", especially 2011. HOW IS IT JUNE? I was reading my new favourite book, the Happiness Project, and she shares a quote " the days are slow but the years are quick". That is so ringing true for me right now. Some days, another minute while doing intervals on the track seems so far away, and now I have no idea how it's june! Also- what is in those lettuce wraps? they look absolutely delightful!! please share!
Today actually went pretty slowly, which I definitely embraced 😀
Yet you are an amazing athlete who looks young to me!;)
Ok.. you're not even 30 yet? Wow I feel old! LOL
well you don't look a day over 20!:) Lindsay ________________________________
Ahh, 30 is nothing. Wait until you are approaching 40 like me. THAT is Whoa Nelly!! Hope to see you guys this weekend!!
My kids cause all kinds of whoa nellys. I swear they get older/bigger/wiser by the day. It makes me want to slow down time and soak up all the sweetness while I can. Oh – and you two are such youngsters. Don't even talk about being old!
I think I'm going to start using the phrase whoa nelly on the regular. It's a cute one. And it's so appropriate! There are SO many whoa nelly moments these days, life just shoots by doesn't it?PS – I think the 30s are rockin even though I'm not quite near them yet. And you guys are definitely still VERY cool 😉
as long as we look cool, then I am all about aging. haha. Lindsay ________________________________
those are even sweeter moments. The whoa nelly time flies when you are having FUN! Lindsay________________________________
Life in general is a total whoa nelly!! There's definitely a delicate balance between living life by the seat of your pants, and trying to cherish every moment. I'm glad to know you don't let the little things slip by you. 😉
Today has absolutely been a Woah Nelly day at work! I can't believe all of the crazy things going on! But not really a BAD woah nelly… so that's good, right?!
time really does seem to speed up as we get older! and yes, you guys still look super cool 🙂
Mu gotein is almost gone! I really like it. Reminds me of muscle milk light. And I like the vanilla!Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

i know, they grow up even faster when you can't see them everyday. Hope you get to see yours soon! Lindsay ________________________________
what a great reminder. You think they really listen? I hope so!! Take advantage of the slowness, right? Lindsay ________________________________
I do that ALL the time. I thought I was 26 last year. nope! oh well, who needs to keep track anyway. Lindsay ________________________________
yippeee! one year of college down. It flies by, really! Lindsay ________________________________
i think we get better with age….right? Lindsay ________________________________
oh wow, good luck!! You'll be free soon! Lindsay ________________________________
Hehehe I get made fun of all the time for saying old fashioned sayings!! I cant help it though…. its what I grew up with! Whoa nelly, holy smokes, golly, my goodness…… Im glad you are taking a moment to reign in the crazy and enjoy! 🙂
oh man, I hear ya on that. I keep delaying my "growing up." haha! Please use whoa nelly A TON today. It will make me smile. Lindsay ________________________________
Whoa Nelly!! It is just so fun to say that. I am going to be driving everyone crazy with it today. 🙂 It is seriously scary how fast time goes by. Weird how you think when I am this age I will do this, and then that age hits and you extend the deadline. ha!Have a great day girl and keep on keepin on!
haha, thank you. I sure hope so! We need a girls week together. Wanna fly to austin? Lindsay C________________________________
Hoping these days go by fast without your hubby. I have another solo weekend ahead of me. And, of your you tow look cool as ever…I'm guessing you'll look 20ish for decades by the way you care for yourself!
Your meals look so delicious! And my sense of time has been WACK-O this year, I can't even believe that I take my last exam tomorrow! It's so strange the way time passes.

woah nelly, i'm turning 30 in two months…. luckily it's only a number 😉
I have whoa nelly moments from time to time! Like how I finished my 1st year of college.. I can seriously remember being in high school and thinking how far away college was.. creepy!! Wonderful oats toppings 🙂
Haha I totally had a whoa nelly day yesterday too!! My cousin's youngest daughter turned 5. I about fell over when I realized it lol! I was like NOOOOO you were just pregnant two years ago! No way!! Uhhh YUP! Time flies.I also managed to convince myself that I was 21 the other day??? I don't know. I kind of don't pay attention to birthdays other than the cake part and the presents anymore LOL… Max was like "Um Sable you know you're two years older than that now right?" Sure. Yeah. I knew that. 😉
Not the biggest "whoa nelly" year for me but I do agree, the older I get – the faster time flies! It's good and bad, haha. I want to tell "young" people I know like high school kids to enjoy each day, each month, each year that they have, because for some reason, once you graduate high school, time starts zooming past you. Thanks for the reminder to take a deep breath and be thankful!
I know it is crazy, when my sister send me pics of my niece I cannot get over how big she is now. Almost walking!!!
20 years? I love it! I bet they won't recognize you because you are so fit and healthy!! gotta be proud to flaunt that.:) Lindsay ________________________________
oh yes, that last dish is a favorite. Sauteed veggies with eggs and salmon in a collard wrap! mmmm mmmmm good. Lindsay ________________________________
gladly! 30s are the new 20's ya know. 😉 Lindsay ________________________________
maybe its just our stage in life. Always moving, going places, trying new things, etc. But I don't ever want to forget it! The good times and bad, right? Lindsay ________________________________
oh I've done that way too many times. I still have a hard time writing 2011 on my checks. haha. Lindsay ________________________________
actually is millet. Very similar to steel cut oats as far as texture goes. I love it for breakfast these days with cream. And for the last meal, it was definitely a KATH style meal. Collard green wraps with sautees mushrooms, zuchini, salmon, and eggs. Come over!:) Lindsay ________________________________
Aww, Lindsay, your nieces and nephews are adorable! I agree that time flies by very quickly, so the best thing we can do is enjoy every minute! :)Are these steel cut oats in your breakfast bowl? Or even whole oat grains? And your dinner looks fabulous again, I want some! (Quite the food envy over here again. :D)
Whoa Ned, too! I am still only 21…in my mind. Not sure where all the time has gone. 🙂 20 year reunion next year…not sure i'll recognize anyone!
Completely happened to me today when I realized it was June 1 after having written a check dated May 31! Where has time gone!?
I haven't use that phrase in a long time, but it's totally appropriate for how I feel about my life post-law school — whoa Nelly, where's my job? Whoa nelly hard to believe I moved away from TX a year and a half ago…whoa nelly, I'm moving again!! You and the hubby are SO cute together!!
All the cool kids are in their 30's. Come join us. 😉
haha I love that you call these your "whoa nelly" moments. Its so crazy how fast the time goes by! What was that last dish? Looks good!
whoa, a year? that did fly!! pretty soon it will be 2! watch out.:) Lindsay ________________________________
amen to that. I remember when i was a kid, weeks felt like eternities.. I need to remember how to live like that. here's to a slow summer! Lindsay ________________________________
yep, we'll get there….some day. Right?:) Lindsay ________________________________
oh ya, end of the spectrum for sure. But we get to be in a new one soon. and yes, we are still cool! even cooler now.;) Lindsay ________________________________
oh no, babies grow up way too fast!! Lindsay ________________________________
You're too cute! I had a woah nelly moment today when I realized my daughter is closer to 3 than 2 1/2. Noooooooooo!!!!
whoa, really? You started in february?? Oh my goodness, thats crazy! Can you believer we've been friends for over a year?! I am so thankful for that WHOA NELLY> hehe. Lindsay ________________________________
oh now you've got me excited! I hope everything goes through and its all good news to share…SOON!:)p.s.glad we both "don't have it all together." We need to live in the same city. haha. Lindsay ________________________________
oh allie! this is too cute. I will remember this story….and sunblock. haha. Lindsay ________________________________
Of course you're still cool! And I am too right? I had a little shock when I looked at my age division in the race I ran on Monday (20-29) and realized that I was at the far end of that spectrum. Gasp!
cute post. smile and roll with it is all you really can do sometimes! have a beautiful day!
Cute nieces and nephew!! Funny story about Whoa Nelly. When I was super tiny, my dad was feeding my brother his bottle and I came into the living room and said Daddy I want some juice. He said Allie, right now Im feeding Mike so just hold your horses okay? So I walked away and like 10 minutes my mom said went by and then I came back into the room with my riding horse(the one that is plastic and you rock it) I rocked that thing from room to room until I got to my dad. I came in, real proud and all and said, Daddy! I have my horse, can I have my juice now? My mom said my dad was trying NOT to crack up when I was came into the room on my little horse. Today was very blah, and I learned my lesson with the sun at 10:30-wear sunblock or else you will get burnt :/ I forgot it today 🙁 Oops
Don't worry on the having it all together! I'm near 30 and Nick is past 30 and we're nowhere near all together1 😛 Your nieces and nephew are simply precious! I wish my brothers would have babies, although I guess we're going to have kids first because neither of them are married! We are having a whoa nelly day in some very good ways. I have to be mysterious because nothing is for sure yet, couple more weeks to see what's what 🙂 hehe
Whoa Nelly is RIGHT! Seriously, how is it already June?? I got hired by lululemon in FEBRUARY!? Seems like last month. When we lived in Belize, time went by sooooo slowly. Seriously, it was crazy. Almost too slow, actually. I guess I'm still looking for that balance. 🙂
well you don't look a day over 25. 😉 Lindsay ________________________________
Isn't it crazy how time is just flying by? And we have tons of stuff going on in June so this month will be gone before we know it. It did help me stop and enjoy some time today — the rushing around needs to stop!
Whoa Nelly- don't even go there about being 30. I've been there for half a year already… 🙂
yep, and guess what?! i heard they go on sale friday at whole foods!!! Lindsay ________________________________
oh i love ya Alaina! your such a gift of encouragement. I will pause and cherish that! Lindsay ________________________________
