Losing Motivation. Can we really lose it? Or is it just misplaced? Yes, I like to think we misplace our motivation from time to time. But goodness gracious we probably need to misplace it in order to relax a bit.
It sounds so wrong, doesn’t it? But let me explain. This past week I had NO MOTIVATION to do the things I needed wanted to get done. I was tired. And not the tired from a good workout tired. A tired from life’s events catching up to you. You know, the mentally draining ones.
So often I think we find ourselves pushing through the tiredness because of guilt. Feeling guilty for not be motivated to be superwoman? Wait, what? That’s an exhausting cycle. And one that “sometimes” I am way to familiar with.
We need to find a happy medium here. And maybe that means we replace the superwoman motivation with the Mary Poppins Motivation.
The 80/20 rule of eating can be applied to our motivation as well. Or at least I like to think so.
80% of the time I am motivated. I like to get my workouts in, I like to be productive, I like to be organized, I like to be a super duper sherpa wife, etc. But that 20% (okay maybe 25% these days) I am going to forget about it. I’m going to let the laundry pile up. I’m going skip a run and the gym. I’m going to “try” not be such a clean freak. I’m going to make leftovers stretch for days in order to avoid the store. I’m going to sit on my butt and watch TV instead of being social or going out.
I’m going to MISPLACE my motivation.. just for a bit. Because sometimes I need to lose my mojo in order to focus on what I (We) really need to FIND. Simplicity, slowness, rejuvenation.
And then just like that.. my motivation pops it’s head up and we’re good to go. Fresh meals, snacks, smoothies. New workouts. Family play time. Faith

Misplaced motivation. It happens. But soon we find it again, all in good time. And you know what? It’s pretty marvelous.
Do you need purposely misplace motivation?
