Marvelous Monday: Sabbatical Week

by LCCotter on August 6, 2012

Hello and Happy Marvelous Monday. I am so thankful that Katie does this weekly series. It truly makes me reflect on the goodness of the day and more importantly, the past weekend!

thehealthydiva

Today is marvelous for various reasons. The main reason being that I am busy working towards a dream/passion. It’s also marvelous because I had a marvelous weekend.

This weekend was suppose to be filled with lots of work but I got about 10% done, and on purpose. After I finished training a client on Saturday morning, I stopped. I hung out with the hubs, did my own workout, cooked dinner, watched the Olympics, and went to bed.

Sunday we savored the morning with the fancy schmancy coffee machine (where we are house/dog sitting), took the dogs on a hike, lounged in the pool, and then went to evening service at church.

coffee dog hike IMG_20120805_191538

I’ve still got that work to do, but this time I don’t feel exhausted going into the week. I feel ready to make up what I didn’t get done and I am mentally refreshed.

I think from time to time we need a little “sabbatical” from life.

SABBATICAL:

( lowercase ) any extended period of leave from one’s customary work, especially for rest, to acquire new skills or training, etc..

This absence is suppose to be a time of rest, recovery, and/or renewal. We all need that time away without feeling guilty.

Time away from training, and more than just a day! Try a whole week!

Time away from work, maybe you need to rest your brain in order to think clearer later.

Time away from any job or activity that is demanding of your time and effort, this includes your passions!

This week I might not blog. I might take a little sabbatical from posting. Who knows, could be a few days, or the whole week. But I know that time will be significant. I will probably continue to read blogs and stay in communication with others, just not focus on my own writing. I’m calling it my blogging sabbatical week. Winking smile

Does an area of your life need a “sabbatical week?”

Cheers to a Marvelous week!

My whole life needs a sabbatical. It’s not that I have things that bad, don’t get me wrong, but I would just like a break from ALL the things for even a day. Just a day to not worry about work or family or food or exercise and simply just “be” as I am. While I try and be mindful as best as I can, some days I just want to escape.

I suppose when that’s not possible, it’s best to find the little moments that give us some peace. I’m grateful for those on most days ;)

I took a semi-sabbatical from housework this weekend ;-) That counts right??? I definitely think that taking a break from time-to-time is a great way to re-connect, re-energize, re-vive. I have been taking a break from blogging on the weekends and it’s been a great change of pace for me. No regrets.

I think time away from the norm, from the routine, from the hustle bustle, from structure…all of it – is SO important to do every now and then. Give yourself a little reset on life, know what I mean? Embrace it friend! xo!

Jason gets a three month sabbatical every seven years… he is coming up on another one, and this time I am planning on taking one as well! I have a few things runnin’ around this mind, and I feel like I want to focus on them. so a sabbatical for me would be taking a break from normal every day to focus on new possibilities!

I think every week deserves a little sabbatical from something, even just one daily routine. Step away from it, approach it from a new perspective. Food for thought for me, something I want to do! And I love taking a sabbatical from life sometimes…for me, that’ll be lakation, coming up a week from Wednesday night ;-) Enjoy yours, friend!

I feel like I’m ending one sabbatical and starting another haha. I am going back to work (teaching) tomorrow after being “off” for the summer. I taught a zillion fitness classes all summer and have decided to cut back this year – I went from 8 per WEEK to only 9 per MONTH! YAY!

Enjoy your time of rest!

I used to take “mental health days” from school, like a sabbatical! I’d allocate myself 3-4 a year and get to use them up as I wished! they were the best! I won’t need them this year though- no more school!! I might need to take a sabbatical from life in the fall…maybe a sabattical will lead me to my new life plan!

Hello Lindsay! Katie is great for fueling some happiness and smiles, right??
A sabbatical from time to time is great advice! I think we lose track of that in this crazy work all the time society that we have created. It is scene as a weakness to take a break/vacation. I think sabbaticals are necessary to THRIVE and not crash into a wall, like I did this year.
I also love your work out. I miss the rowing machine! When I get back to the gym this little routine will be on my to do list :)

I definitely could use a sabbatical from grad school LOL which I guess I’m getting now with my break but since I’m still working no real sabbatical. Lovely idea and one I need to put into practice friend just to clear the mind ya know??!! Thanks :-D

So interesting that you are posting about Sabbatical as I’ve been pondering the concept of personal Sabbath (based on this series at church: http://stjohnsnorwood.podbean.com/2012/06/25/sarah-lapenta-h-on-summer-through-jesus-sunglasses-part-1/)

I think of the Sabbatical as an extended Sabbath. I have just come off a week of staycation but feel that I could fundamentally use a longer time of sabbatical/sabbath in my own life right now. Enjoy your time off and REST WELL!!

that sounds like the perfect weekend – relaxing and time with people you love! I often need to take a “sabbatical” from…my life haha. Every so often I need to hop in my car and drive out of the state, meet a friend that I don’t see often, and do something fun/special/adventurous/completely out of the ordinary. it’s usually enough to refresh me and help me appreciate/stay content with my normal everyday life!

Oh my gosh, I swear this was meant for me to read. ;) I’ve traveled to and from Chicago (30 hours of driving total), been a tourist, run a half marathon, packed up a house, moved a house, unpacked a house (10 boxes left!), and packed up half a house (my dad and grandmother’s left over stuff) in 2 weeks. All while taking care of a family. I am completely and utterly exhausted. I need a sabbatical. Desperately. However, I haven’t run in about two weeks…and that’s been a great sabbatical within a hectic couple of weeks. I need a hectic-life-sabbatical. ;)

PS: I love you. I love your blog. I know I can always come here and feel better than I did a few minutes earlier, even if I was already feeling amazing. :)
