So you might say we travel a lot, right? I’d agree. I love it. I love being a nomad, for now at least.
But one of the hardest things about traveling is food. I try to pack as many fresh foods as possible. Luckily now a days, there are “fresh” options everywhere, even at new stands and gas stations!
Let’s see. What did I pack/eat/buy while road trippin’ this past weekend? Here’s a list.
- Carrots
- fruit cup
- salad in a cup
- trail mix
- turkey jerky
- cheese
- protein powder mix
- plantain chips
- lara bars and uber bars
Not too shabby for travel food eh?
But what if we had the tools/appliances to keep things fresh ALL the time? It would make things so much easier in terms of eating healthy, right?
Check out the FRESHPEDITION.
These guys are on a mission to Keep Farm Food Fresh. Now that is something I can support!
A Chef and GE engineer stocked up a GE refrigerator with fresh foods, hooked it up to a generator, stuck it on the back of a truck, and drove 2,000 miles on the road just to make a point. Farm Fresh Food COULD an SHOULD last!
GE is continuing this same passion for fresh food with the Freshpedition Sweepstakes. This sweepstakes uses Pinterest, which means you can actually pin for a chance to win all new GE kitchen appliances.
You can also enter each day of the sweepstakes for a chance to win a $100 VISA® Prepaid Card. Entering for this prize is fun as you’re asked to pin your favorite fresh foods or your own recipes. Also, these pins when hashtagged with your state (e.g. #GEfreshTX) become part of a “Best of Fresh” map featuring freshness from around the country. Explore the map here: http://www.freshpedition.com/sweepstakes/fresh-map.htm
For official rules and to enter visit here: http://www.freshpedition.com/sweepstakes/
I just adore this campaign! I am pretty sure most everyone will too! Watch the video, laugh at all they encounter, and check out the fantastic sweepstakes where you can win a GE kitchen appliance. I’ll post more later as details unfold, but just know, it’s totally worth it!

What’s the longest your food has stayed fresh while traveling?
I think I might take their idea and travel across the nation with Healthy Bites. Sound good?
Where to first?
Cheers!

Last day to enter in the ICEdot giveaway. Will pick winner tomorrow!

another reason why i love you. SMART and SUPPORTIVE!
That would be amazing if you could really travel with a fridge- a cooler only lasts so long.
Heather @ Side of Sneakers recently posted..Cocktails and Cupcakes
i know. like a mini fridge the size of a purse, right?
Finding fresh food on the road IS hard! But Healthy Bites sure are a good solution
This looks like such a fun campaign but here in NYC, there’s actually a farm truck that grows stuff in the flatbed of a pick-up. It’s pretty cool.
Christine @ Love, Life, Surf recently posted..Face Lift and a Guest Post
another reason i need to visit new york, besides you of course. And i could hand deliver healthy bites!
I love this campaign, it is so inspiring to see people so passionate.
- subject change-
I think Healthy Bites would be perfect for troops. I know my husband, who has Celiac, would gobble them up and so many troops are into heath and fitness. The one thing I hear them complain about is food out in the field. Just a thought.
Lisa @ RunWiki recently posted..Almost Wordless Wednesday
this is brilliant! i actually had someone order from Aghanastan and I shipped them. They made it! I wonder how i could get them to the troops?
Ha- I love what opposites the guys are. It’ll make for an interesting week! It’s even hard to take/keep fresh food for a long weekend camping trip!
When you go on a Healthy Bites tour, be sure to pop into Canada! We’ll take you to the mountains to make it worth your trip!
Abby @ Change of Pace recently posted..Change the Pace – How to care for your bike
oh ya, we have to freeze dry everything when we go camping. And now you are making me want to go to Canada. I hear the mountains calling!
Um – you better get your hiney to Little Rock first
Heather (Where’s the Beach) recently posted..Slower Running & Squash "Pasta" with Garlicky Basil Tomatoes
it would be my first stop of course.
I love the snack pack options some airlines have now with hummus, nuts and stuff – way better than what we use to have.
I like this healthy bites tour — in fact you should go global:)

i know! finally! too bad they are $10. ugh.
I’m sitting in an airport right now in fact and just finished eating a breakfast I packed for myself… a veggie omelet eating straight out of a tin foil wrap, no utensils, a banana, and a tupperware of almond butter. Not too shabby for an airport breakfast either!
katie @KatieDid recently posted..Olive Oil Banana Soft Serve
yep yep, not shabby at all. Much better than a cinnabonn to, eh?
safe travels.
I can’t wait to watch that episode, sounds like fun. I’m about to do a lot of travelling myself and I’m curious to know how you pack your protein? Do you simply use single serving sizes or do you take a tub with you?
I’m SO excited about Amanda’s eat clean challenge. It’s something I really get behind and I’m so motivated to do for myself.
Also, your healthy bites look amazing and I want to order some soon! What’s your favorite?
Katie @wishandwhimsy recently posted..VOTE Peach Mango & WIAW
i actually put protein powder in an empty bottle, then when i get to the airport and through security, i fill my bottle up at a water fountain, shake, and go! Easy.

Awesome idea! There is something so liberating about eating fresh food while on the road. Traveling is very hard on my digestive system so I am always looking for new ideas.

We packed up some of our refrigerator goodies when we moved and Kirk took them in the car in a cooler. Almost everything made it cross-country, which we were both impressed with!

The house is coming along pretty well, I’ll do a post soon to share our progress. Our room is still fairly chaotic, but the rest is feeling homey.

I always travel with apples, protein powder and some sort of crunchy snack if I’m traveling by plane, but if I’m in the car for a long trip, the plug in cooler goes with me! We have to have foods we can eat and we have to keep it fresh!

A Healthy Bites road tour sounds like a pretty fab idea to me! First stop: Washington, DC?
The GE Freshpedition is such a great idea! I actually just popped over to Pinterest to check out the hashtags by state. It looks like DC (and Idaho) need a little help! I’ll see what I can do.
When I travel, I always pack perishable items like fruits and veggies, which usually stay fresh for a couple of days. I rarely throw anything out because I’m a produce-eating machine.
However, I also pack hard boiled eggs, and if I don’t have access to a fridge, they sadly don’t keep more than a day!
Huge hugs from the potato state! xoxo <3
Sara @ Nourish and Flourish recently posted..How I Eat When I Dine At a Restaurant: Dinner at Barbacoa
oh me too! i wish they made hard boiled eggs easier to travel with or tuna packs not so smelly. haha. I love you for being part of this! totally makes me smile. thank you.

i’m there! Salmon for breakfast sound good?
I always have to travel with food and find a grocery store as soon as I land – I’m limited to hotels with a fridge and microwave, so I’d love a better option! GF can be so expensive and I hate it when it spoils! It’s like throwing away cash!
Laura @ LauraLivesLife recently posted..Running & Reading Long Week 12: Once a Runner
eating GF is hard while traveling, but i think it’s getting a little better. Thank goodness for POPchips, think thin bars, and fruit, right?
Obviously you should come to Virginia first.
I love this campaign! I am a HUGE proponent of packing healthy snacks with you on trips. There is no reason you can’t eat well and fresh and stay healthy in an airport, or a car, or on a train…or whatever. I swear, with a smile and some ingenuity, it’s really not THAT hard to get some good eats through TSA.
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen recently posted..Golden Tomato + Mango Gazpacho
oh you are the queen packer! i love it!! I love the jars you bring with you too, so clever. You should do a vlog on that!
