I love the Kiwi accent. Are you a Flight of the Conchords fan? I think their accents were half the reason I loved the show…

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:39 am

oh my gosh yes, i love flight conchords!!! hilarious!

Reply

Bonnie January 10, 2012 at 3:36 am

Wow – what a day! I can’t believe you still woke up so early! Love hearing your friends/family talk…great accents and I just love that scene around the kitchen table. :) Sleep well tonight (whenever tonight is for you)! ;)

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:41 am

it was quite funny. they didn’t even know i was filming. hehe. sneaky!

Bre January 10, 2012 at 3:47 am

should I be concerned that I understood that conversation the first time?? it sounds a bit like British accent :) love it! such a nice accent, much nicer than mine!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:43 am

that means you should come be my translator, deal?

Reply

Bre January 10, 2012 at 12:16 pm

heck yes it does!!! that’s the best idea of 2012! ;) now, any idea of a good excse to get out of classes so I can make it happen??

tea-bagginit January 10, 2012 at 3:47 am

i wish i had some mindless entertainment today! instead it was filled with class and work! :( boo! i think i’ll go read some silly chick lit before bed, just to turn the brain off!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:44 am

oh no! well i hope this helped, and maybe sometime with J?? turn off the brain and sleep! I am liking that plan.

Lou January 10, 2012 at 6:28 am

argh…. horrible accent – I don’t sound like that do I!?!?!

Reply

Lou January 12, 2012 at 12:19 am

Didn’t mean to sound rude… the Kiwi accent is just so strong, makes me cringe, cos I get teased about mine all the time in Aussie!

Reply

LCCotter January 12, 2012 at 12:19 am

not at all. Never rude! i love your accent. Its BEAUTIFUL! like YOU!

Reply

Caroline January 10, 2012 at 7:16 am

Well I am a fan of accents!
I know shocker right?!!!
After 12 yrs with my husband I STILL have to repeat myself almost every day…! One of my good friend here is Scotish and we are told that nobody can understand us when we talk to each other and our accents cross!!!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:32 pm

oh good, so i am not alone here. Do you repeat yourself to your kids too? I bet they are better at listening, haha. Maybe?

Reply

Kristin @ STUFT Mama January 10, 2012 at 7:55 am

Well shoot, I hope you get some rest Lindsay. And I can’t tell what they’re talking about at all. I would definitely be doing a lot of smiling and nodding. ha ha ha!

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:33 pm

ya and imagine trying to listen after a glass of wine. haha.

Sarah @ The Healthy Diva January 10, 2012 at 9:46 am

hahaha I loved that clip. when i first moved to australia i had such a hard time understanding everyone. The thick twang really made everything sound so different….funny thing is now I’ve got a bit of one! My mindless entertainment is going to be watching the real housewives!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:36 pm

oh australians are worse! Much more twang. I am just now noticing the difference between the two. haha.

Reply

Lindsay @ biking before bed January 10, 2012 at 12:36 pm

Glad you made it back safely! I love hearing different accents. It’s amazing how the same language can sound so different all over the world. You should introduce us to some Australian sayings on your blog!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:37 pm

i know more New Zealand (kiwi) sayings than Australian. Not a whole lot of aussies here even though we are so close. hehe.

Tessa @ Amazing Asset January 10, 2012 at 1:00 pm

Hahhaa love it :) There are a few pins on Pinterest that made me laugh today… I have a “smile and laughs” board that will get me out of a bad mood whenever I go and look at it!

Heather (Where's the Beach) January 10, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Ouch long day my friend. At least you made it back safely. Too funny on the accents. Coming from the south too where people tend to draw out everything!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:38 pm

i know, but i can understand you easily. Southern drawls are my forte, hehe. jk.

Reply

Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean January 10, 2012 at 1:32 pm

haha this makes me miss australia. i remember when i first got there i just stared at people like “huh”? was that english?!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:39 pm

Reply

Rufus January 10, 2012 at 2:49 pm

haha! I know exactly what you mean about the accent thing! I moved to Scotland from Norway what I was 14 and thought to myself, “at least they speak English and I won’t need to learn another foreign language” (I’m originally from Texas). Little did i know how many times I would repeat the phrase “excuse me?” while living there :)

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:40 pm

oh my, scotish or irish is SO HARD to understand. Definitely a whole new language, haha. And you are from TX? where?

Reply

Rufus January 11, 2012 at 3:16 pm

I have found myself in Houston for the past three years. I think i read you moved from Austin to NZ? My brother-in-law lives there and we take any opportunity we can to visit. Austin is one of my favorite Texas cities :)

natalie January 10, 2012 at 2:58 pm

Your body is incapable of sleeping in. (hugs) Teehee…

My mom’s side of the family is from Peru, and I cannot understand a WORD they say because they speak so darn fast. I don’t think I could speak that fast in English!! Craziness.

Rest up lady :)

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:41 pm

English on speed, yes? You must film that sometime!

Reply

audrey January 10, 2012 at 3:15 pm

my mindless entertainment…yikes i hate to admit to it..but…
reruns of: king of queens or friends or sex in the city…YIKES!!!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:41 pm

gotta love the kind of queens! hilarious and sex in the city. Good stuff Audrey!

Reply

Diana January 10, 2012 at 4:10 pm

Haha…that was not English. No way, no how. And here I was all jealous that you are soaking up the sun in New Zealand, now that I know I would be totally left out of every conversation (I’m TERRIBLE w/ accents) I feel a little better about being in the midwest! ;)

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:42 pm

we could be left out together, come help me translate! Its warmer here for ya!

Reply

Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food January 10, 2012 at 4:44 pm

Too funny! I would definitely be asking them to repeat stuff too! I am so bad at understanding accents…I don’t know why!!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:43 pm

i think they are sick me going “huh?” But thats okay… they can’t understand me either. haha

Reply

Heather @ Dietitian on the Run January 10, 2012 at 5:34 pm

Welcome back to CC!

Reply

Nichole January 10, 2012 at 6:27 pm

I like this kind of entertainment. Glad you traveled safely, L!

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 6:45 pm

yes! i know you can relate! love that. You need to film an English or Scotish conversation.

Reply

Lisa January 10, 2012 at 6:41 pm

The accent is great! It must be good for one’s brain to have to concentrate on understanding/interpreting, right? It’s always funny how different accents and languages make the people sounds like they are talking super fast—I know we sounds that way to them too!

Reply

Shannon January 10, 2012 at 7:20 pm

hehe, fun! i’d have one heck of a time ;)

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 10:44 pm

Reply

LCCotter January 10, 2012 at 10:44 pm

haha, no luck, eh? I’ll have to do another one and make them talk slow!

Reply

Christin@purplebirdblog January 10, 2012 at 9:22 pm

Oooo yay!! I love the accents, even if I can’t understand them! I love the way they say “yeh.” I hope you were able to get some sleep, sweet friend!

Reply

i know, me too! i kind hope i develop one… maybe? If i am lucky!

Reply

Reply

LCCotter January 11, 2012 at 4:20 am

you do to them! a southern drawl!

Reply

Rachel January 11, 2012 at 2:01 am

Ha as a Kiwi- when I was in the US, all I could think when people spoke to me was that they spoke so slowly, it killed me ! I wanted to snap my fingers and tell them to spit it out already! In the nicest way possible : )

I’ve done a lot of travelling so I understand most accents, but my NZ friends have had major issues with Northern Ireland (much thicker than Republic of Ireland) and Highland Scottish accents.

Reply

LCCotter January 11, 2012 at 4:22 am

oh i want to hear yours! and the northern ireland is hard. I agree on that. Do you understand my vlogs? haha, hope so.

Reply

LCCotter January 11, 2012 at 4:19 am

you do have one! they said i do. I wonder what we sound like to them. haha.

I love listening to Kiwi English! Keep the sneaky videos coming! ;-) Maybe the more I listen to, the more I’ll understand? The only part I picked up was “Did she?” at the end. Hehe.

I hope you were able to get some good rest last night! xoxo

Ha, love it! How did you get to the point where you’re bad at sleeping in? Is this something you were born with, or can one train for that kind of thing?!

I am a chronic morning hater, in case those questions didn’t tip you off already ;)
